A novel design strategy for adaptive impedance matching network which consists of two tunable components is presented. The input resistance is controlled by the first tunable component and independent of the second tunable component. Additionally, the proposed strategies ensure that the input resistance is proportional to the first tunable component and input reactance is proportional to the second tunable component. Therefore, the binary search algorithm is employed to calibrate the tunable matching network. In contrast to the single-step method, the convergence speed is improved from O(N) to O(log N).

This paper presents an approach to determine the maximum power point (MPP) in photovoltaic (PV) system under partial shaded conditions using binary search algorithm (BSA). The BSA perform MPP tracking by changing the search boundaries to eliminate the region where the MPP cannot lie. In this study, the BSA and particle swarm optimization (PSO) based MPPT were developed in Matlab Simulink with a DC/DC boost converter. Both algorithms were simulated under ten different test cases of partial shading conditions to study the accuracy, speed and tracking efficiency. BSA exhibits a fast convergence with zero steady state oscillation along with the capability of performing MPP tracking under partially shaded PV system.

PurposeThis paper aims at developing an improved method, based on binary search algorithm (BSA) for the steady-state analysis of self-excited induction generators (SEIGs), which are increasingly used in wind energy electric conversion systems. The BSA is also compared with linear searchalgorithm (LSA) to bring out the merits of BSA over ***/methodology/approachAll the parameters of SEIG, including the varying core loss of the machine, have been considered to ensure accuracy in the predetermined performance values of the set up. The nodal admittance method has been adopted to simplify the equivalent circuit of the generator and load. The traditional bar code scanning in supermarkets is inefficient, which has been unable to meet the further development of a supermarket. To meet the needs of quick shopping in supermarkets, binary search algorithm has been proposed to prevent from anti-collision, which makes it faster to scan and identify the goods. On this basis, the goods which have not been checked out will be scanned again to obtain security. Besides, it plays an important role in the supermarket shopping system to achieve the functions of self-purchase and membership scheme. For the RFID supermarket shopping system, the test of the checkout efficiency, product recognition rate, and security were done. The result showed that the binary search algorithm had good accuracy in the RFID supermarket shopping system. The result also proved the rationality of the RFID supermarket shopping system, which can meet the daily needs of supermarkets. The method was applying the emerging technology into the traditional supermarket shopping system, which improved the profitability and management level of supermarkets.

This article presents a new method to extract accurate rotor position for the speed sensorless control of surface-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs), based on the back electromotive force (EMF) information. The concept of finite control set-model predictive control is employed, and its cost function is related to the back EMF. An optimal voltage vector is selected from several given voltage vectors by comparing their fitness values. Moreover, the position space is divided into four sectors, and the fitness of each sector boundary is calculated and compared. The rotor position is first located in the sector surrounded by two boundaries that minimize the cost function. Then the selected sector is split into two parts, and the binary search algorithm is applied to reduce the sector area to improve the accuracy of position estimation. To overcome the drawback of the back EMF-based sensorless scheme, an I-f startup method is employed to accelerate the motor to the desired speed. An experiment has been carried out to compare the performance of the proposed method and the conventional phase-locked loop (PLL) in terms of steady-state and transient conditions.

We design a probability distribution for ordinal data by modeling the process generating data, which is assumed to rely only on order comparisons between categories. Contrariwise, most competitors often either forget the order information or add a non-existent distance information. The data generating process is assumed, from optimality arguments, to be a stochastic binary search algorithm in a sorted table. The resulting distribution is natively governed by two meaningful parameters (position and precision) and has very appealing properties: decrease around the mode, shape tuning from uniformity to a Dirac, identifiability. Moreover, it is easily estimated by an EM algorithm since the path in the stochastic binary search algorithm can be considered as missing values. Using then the classical latent class assumption, the previous univariate ordinal model is straightforwardly extended to model-based clustering for multivariate ordinal data. Parameters of this mixture model are estimated by an AECM algorithm. Both simulated and real data sets illustrate the great potential of this model by its ability to parsimoniously identify particularly relevant clusters which were unsuspected by some traditional competitors.

Implementing bit-level median filtering circuits based on binary search algorithm is one of powerful methods to provide simple and modular configurations. The aim of this paper is to compare the performances of four median filtering circuits utilizing binary search algorithm in terms of operation time and power consumption, which are major characteristics for signal and image processing in real time. These studied filtering circuits are implemented through the employment of existing logic control and majority voting modules. Two different configurations of logic control module as well as two different configurations of majority voting module for four possible circuit realizations are described. LabVIEW simulation results are employed for verifying the performances of the studied median filtering circuits.

In spite of significant ongoing research, the Border gateway protocol (BGP) still encompasses conceptual vulnerability issues regarding impersonating the ownership of IP prefixes for ASes (Autonomous Systems). In this context, a number of research studies focused on securing BGP through historical-based and statistical-based behavioural models. This paper proposes a novel algorithm aiming to track the behaviour of BGP edge routers and detect IP prefix hijacks based on a typical signature. The algorithm parses the BGP advertisements in order to detect the apparent relocation of specific IP prefixes, either in the same or in different regions. The algorithm aims to identify IP prefixes by multiple independent ASes. The method differs from routing consistency monitoring, which faces difficulties detecting events at the edge of the BGP infrastructure. Based on the RIRs' database, the algorithm can detect national and cross-border IP prefix hijacks very quick. However, 5 results out of 16 were not accurate therefore the algorithm has some false positives and needs further improvement to be done in future.

The use of PVs and storage systems behind-themeter provides backup power supply to owners as well as capable of providing ancillary services to the power grid such as peak load shifting, demand response, energy arbitrage amongst others. This paper proposes a binary-search based optimization algorithm determines the size of photovoltaic (PV) plus battery standalone system in order to meet a defined load profile. The objective function formulation minimizes the overall system cost and makes sure that the total load rejection is zero by the PV-plus-battery (PPB) system for the load profile considered throughout the year. The optimization variable set in the proposed formulation are the number of the PVs and the batteries. The battery state-of-charge, the number of PVs and batteries are set as the optimization constraints. The proposed algorithm is fed with a year-long actual irradiance and load profile data for facility located in Miami FL. The cost factors for the PV and battery are also input to the proposed algorithm. The results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a zero load deficit for the period and the load profile considered.
