The performance of the wavelets within the field of image process is standard. Multiwavelets is the next step in riffle theory and it takes the performance of wavelets to the next level. In this work the performance of the Integer Multiwavelet transform (IMWT) for lossy compression has been studied. The Proposed IMWT shows sensible performance in lossy reconstruction of the images than that of Existing lossy reconstruction. This work utilizes the performance of the Proposed IMWT for lossy compression of images with encoding techniques like Magnitude set coding and Run Length Encoding. The transform coefficients are unit coded by means of Magnitude set coding and run length coding techniques which in turn results with low bits. The transform coefficient matrix is coded on not taking under consideration of the sign values using the Magnitude Set-Variable Length Integer illustration. The sign data of the coefficients is coded as bit plane with zero thresholds. This bit plane may be used as it is or coded to scale back the bits per pixels. The Simulation was exhausted using Matlab.

SNR and temporal scalable coding of 3-D mesh sequences using singular value decomposition

A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and temporal scalable coding algorithm for 3-D mesh sequences using singular value decomposition (SVD) is proposed in this work. The proposed algorithm employs SVD to represent a mesh sequence with a small number of basis vectors, and encodes those basis vectors with a bit plane coder. We analytically derive the contribution of each bit plane to the reconstructed mesh quality, and transmit the bit planes in the decreasing order of their amounts of contribution. As the decoder receives more bit planes, it reconstructs higher quality mesh sequences progressively. Moreover, we develop a temporal prediction mode to improve the rate-distortion (R-D) performance further, which also supports temporal scalability. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields significantly better R-D performance than conventional SVD-based coders. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

JPEG2000 will be the international standard to continuous-tone still image coding in next generation. JPEG2000 algorithm is different from JPEG algorithm in filtering and entropy coding. In this thesis, we propose BPC hardware design based on parallel pass to improve performance. Hardware module which performs the bit plane coding (BPC) operation is designed by Verilog-HDL and synthesized by QuartusII. As a result of implementing BPC hardware, a speed gain of about 2 times is achieved when a process did BPC by based on serial pass.

This paper presents a layered error resilient scheme for Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) coding which incorporates the Multiple Description coding (MDC) into the data partition. The major feature of this scheme is that the MDC is adopted in the process of packetizing the spatial orientation trees, so as to protect the important information bits according to different importance and channel state. The proposed scheme can allocate redundancy accurately and flexibly, by differentiating importance of bits through different bit planes. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves good performance over packet erasure channels.

This study presents a novel approach of progressive transmission of 3D animated mesh for different level of details. A typical 3D animation consists of large coherence between frames which can be effectively tapped to achieve compression and by coupling it to the proposed bit plane encoding scheme in the transform domain, efficient generation of progressive 3D animated model can be achieved. Our method is lossless in nature as it does not require addition quantization. In addition, the algorithm can be directly applied on the floating numbers of the mesh. From the experimental result, it can be shown that progressive quality of the animated mesh measured by SNR (dB) can be realized given more bit stream received at the decoder.

To overcome many drawbacks in the current JPEG standard for still image compression, a new standard, JPEG2000, is under development by the International Standard Organization. Embedded bit plane coding is the heart of the JPEG2000 encoder. This encoder is more complex and has significantly higher computational requirements compared to the entropy encoding in current JPEG standard. Because of the inherent bit-wise processing of the entropy encoder in JPEG2000, memory traffic is a substantial component in software implementation. However, in hardware implementation, the look-up tables can be mapped to logic gates and memory accesses for the state bit computation can be reduced significantly by careful design. In this paper, we present an efficient VLSI architecture for embedded bit-plane coding in JPEG2000 that reduces the number of memory accesses. To better understand the interaction of this architecture with the rest of the coder, we also present a system level architecture for efficient implementation of JPEG2000 in hardware.

Multiwavelets are an advance of the well established wavelet theory. The performance of the wavelets in the field of image processing is well known. Multiwavelets take wavelets a step ahead in performance. In this work the performance of the Integer Multiwavelet Transform (IMWT) for Lossy compression has been studied. The IMWT shows good performance with reconstruction of the images. This work analyses the performance of the IMWT for lossy compression of images with Magnitude set coding. The Transform coefficients are coded using the Magnitude set coding and run length Encoding techniques. The Transform coefficient matrix is coded without taking into account of the sign by using the Magnitude Set - Variable Length Integer representation. The sign information of the coefficients is coded as bit plane with zero thresholds. The bit plane so formed can be used as it is or coded to reduce the bpp. The Simulation was done in Mat lab.

In this work, we propose a progressive compression algorithm using topology-based Karhunen-Loeve transform(KLT). First, we simplify an input mesh to represents an original mesh in several level of details. Then, coordinates of decimated vertices at each level are predicted from the coarser level mesh, and the prediction residuals are transmitted to a decoder. To provide high coding efficiency, we apply the topology-based KLT, which compacts the energy into a few coefficients, to the prediction residuals. Moreover, we develop a bit plane coder, which uses a context-adaptive arithmetic coder, for the entropy coding. Experiments on various 3D meshes show that the proposed algorithm provides enhanced compression performance.

Embedded block coding with optimized truncation (EBCOT) is the most computationally intensive part of JPEG2000 image coding standard. In order to improve the encoding efficiency, in this paper, we design a high parallel VLSI architecture of bit plane coding (BPC). Based on this proposed architecture, each encoding pass and each bit plane are encoded in parallel. Moreover, this proposed BPC can be connected with multiple MQ encoders during a coding session, which increase the encoding throughput furthermore. Logic synthesis results based on SIMC 0.25 mu m technology library and the throughput analysis results based on several standard test images show that the proposed architecture can work at a higher frequency and complete the encoding process with lower clock cycles compared with the available designs.
