This paper considers the design of precoding and decoding techniques for backhaul networks at Ka band. In this frequency band, large antenna arrays must be employed with appropriate beamforming and precoding techniques to combat the high path loss. Traditional multi-antenna systems use digital baseband beamforming and precoding that is not economical for large antenna arrays due to its cost and power consumption. Recently, hybrid analog-digital solutions were suggested for millimeter wave multiple-input-multiple-output systems. They rely on two steps. The first step consists of an analog only beamforming which aims at the exploitation of the high antenna gain offered by the large-scale antenna array. The second step mitigates the multiuser interference by means of digital precoding. In this paper, we focus on the second step of the hybrid precoding. We propose a solution for interference mitigation in multi-base station scenarios. Our solution is based on a block diagonalization technique and requires full channel state information at each base station of a backhaul network. The performance of the algorithm is compared to a partial block diagonalization which was originally proposed for the single base station downlink scenario.

This paper analyzes the status quo of the precoding algorithm, and puts forward a power allocation mode called SINR, which has low computation complexity in the precoding relative to the water-filling power allocation. This algorithm obtains the precoding matrix by SVD singular value decomposition and uses SINR to realize the power allocation. Due to the avoidance of the iterative computation of the water flooding principle, the computational complexity of the power allocation is reduced. At the same time, the system and capacity and bit error rate have significantly improved over traditional average power allocation.

In this paper, the beamforming design and power allocation problem for MIMO-OFDM cognitive radio broadcast channel is investigated. Due to the non-convexity of this problem, the block diagonalization is proposed as beamforming strategy which converts the problem to only a power allocation problem. The power allocation problem is solved based on the standard convex optimization framework, and iterative algorithms with a closed form power allocation are proposed to search optimal dual variables based on KKT conditions. As a comparison, suboptimal solutions with lower complexity are proposed based on resolving combinatorial constraints to individual constraints. Simulation results validate proposed algorithms and evaluate their performance over various scenarios.

There is an implicit loss in data throughput due to channel state information (CSI) feedback for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. This loss has usually not been considered in conventional sum-rate studies. Recently, a duplex model was introduced for a single-user point-to-point MIMO system to calculate the rate loss due to the feedback. This paper extends the duplex system model for a multi-user MIMO downlink with block diagonalization. In other words, this paper will determine the sum-rate loss and show what is the trade-off between user data and CSI overhead rate. In addition, effects of quantization error at the receiver and noisy feedback upon the loss in net system capacity are presented. Finally, simulation results verify the impact of feedback on the sum-rate for multiple user multi-antenna wireless systems.

In order to exploit multiuser diversity in multiuser MIMO systems with block diagonalization, A novel multi-user scheduling algorithm, guarantee both the fairness between users and higher capacity of the system, is proposed in this paper. We provide a number of different scheduling schemes and compare them in the terms of average capacity and the fairness as a function of the number of users. Numerical results show that our algorithm can make perfect tradeoff between fairness and capacity.

In this paper, we derive some practical necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution to a new system of coupled two-sided Sylvester-like matrix equations with arbitrary number of equations and unknowns over the quaternion algebra. As applications, we give some practical necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an eta-Hermitian solution to a system of quaternion matrix equations in terms of ranks. We also use graphs to represent linear mappings associated with some Sylvester-type systems. As a special case of the main theorem, we prove a conjecture is correct, which was proposed in [Linear Algebra Appl. 2016;496:549-593]. The main findings of this paper widely extend almost all the known results in the literature.

Diabatic potential energy curves for the ⁴Π states of SH

We present a diabatic representation of the potential energy curves (PECs) for the (4)Pi states of SH. Multireference, configuration interaction (MRCI) calculations were used to determine high-accuracy adiabatic PECs of both SH and SH+ from which the diabatic representation is constructed for SH. The adiabatic PECs exhibit many avoided crossings due to strong Rydberg-valence mixing. We employ the block diagonalization method, an orthonormal rotation of the adiabatic Hamiltonian, to disentangle the valence autoionizing and Rydberg (4)Pi states of SH by constructing a diabatic Hamiltonian. The diagonal elements of the diabatic Hamiltonian matrix at each nuclear geometry render the diabatic PECs and the off-diagonal elements are related to the state-to-state coupling. Care is taken to assure smooth variation and consistency of chemically significant molecular orbitals across the entire geometry domain.

Two symbolic algorithms for inverting k-tridiagonal matrices have been recently found by El-Mikkawy and Atlan (2014, 2015). These two algorithms are mainly based on the Doolittle LU factorization of the k-tridiagonal matrix. In the current paper, we present a new explicit analytic expression for the inverses of general tridiagonal matrices at first. By using a block diagonalization technique, we then relate k-tridiagonal matrix inversion to tridiagonal matrix inversion. Meanwhile, an efficient algorithm is derived for computing the inverses of nonsingular k-tridiagonal matrices with the help of any algorithm for computing the inverses of tridiagonal matrices. Three examples are given in order to illustrate the performance and efficiency of the proposed algorithms. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Efficient Sum Rate Maximization and Resource Allocation in block-Diagonalized Space-Division Multiplexing

For space-division multiplexing (SDM) via block diagonalization on multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless down-link, it is shown that receive antenna selection (RAS) is necessary for maximizing the achievable sum rate. This is true even when all receive antennas are equipped with radio frequency (RF) chains and RAS reduces the upper bound on the broadcast sum capacity, and when the orthogonalized channels use optimal processing. Similarly, spatial-mode selection (SMS) is necessary for sum rate maximization when receive-weight matrices are used for spatial-mode allocation. RAS/SMS may release transmission resources that can fully be utilized via additional user scheduling to yield further sum rate gains. Optimal user selection for sum rate maximization is subsumed within an exhaustive RAS/SMS process for multiantenna terminals, and both selection processes become identical for single-antenna terminals. RAS/SMS thus helps reduce the performance gap from the optimal sum capacity even for small user pool sizes. A block antenna/mode selection approach is introduced to help overcome the drawbacks of existing algorithms. Since RAS/SMS involves antenna/mode ranking, a systematic method for resource allocation with sum rate loss minimization is inherently provided. This way, a streamlined process that combines user selection, RAS/SMS, and resource allocation is developed for sum rate maximization of block-diagonalized SDM.

Computing the block factorization of complex Hankel matrices

In this paper, we present an algorithm for finding an approximate block diagonalization of complex Hankel matrices. Our method is based on inversion techniques of an upper triangular Toeplitz matrix, specifically, by simple forward substitution. We also consider an approximate block diagonalization of complex Hankel matrices via Schur complementation. An application of our algorithm by calculating the approximate polynomial quotient and remainder appearing in the Euclidean algorithm is also given. We have implemented our algorithms in Matlab. Numerical examples are included. They show the effectiveness of our strategy.
