This article describes an original coding system for the transmission of colour television signals over 34 Mbit/s channels. Spatio-temporal blocks are used to reduce both the spatial and temporal redundancies within the blocks. The blocks have fixed size and they are coded independent of each other. Transform coding is not applied. Instead, spatial interpolation and temporal prediction are used, along with the luminance masking on itself as well as on the chrominance signals. The luminance pixels are quantized adaptively considering visual thresholds. Chrominance coding is performed by a block adaptive DPCM.

This paper considers radar signaling schemes for cancellation of late time arriving echoes. Signal reflections arriving delayed at the radar when the radar has already emitted a next pulse result in range ambiguities and materialize as potential false targets. In this work we put forward alternative waveform encoding schemes enabling a well-defined radar system to double, triple or quadruple the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) with full suppression of emerging range ambiguities. The proposed techniques thus have the potential to overcome the contradiction often faced in radar and synthetic aperture radar setups between selecting a low or high value for the PRF. The methods introduced require only simple matched filtering operations at the receiver and permit usage of arbitrary waveforms with potential for waveform diversity gains.

This paper newly propose a combined method of the block coding and predistortion to compensate for the nonlinear distortion from the nonlinear amplifier in OFDM communication system. Though the coding efficiency is low, the block coding has coding gain as well as limits the PAPR under 3dB Even if the predistortion is used, some amount of back-off is required to remove nonlinear distortion completely. In this paper we reduce the PAPR of OFDM signal by the block coding and compensate for the nonlinear distortion by the predistortion. Therefore, the amount of required back-off is lowered so that power efficiency is improved than the only predistortion case. The proposed combined method brings about 3dB back-off gain than the single predistortion and block coding method when BPSK modulation is used and the number of subcarrier is 64. Also, when IBO(input back-off) is 3dB, we can get 3dB and 1dB SNR gains than the only predistortion and the block coding, respectively. Via the proposed method, even in the IBO of 2dB, we can get the similar performance as the linear amplifier.

block coding based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT) is very popular in image and video compression. Pre/post-filtering can be attached to a DCT-based block coding system to improve coding efficiency as well as to mitigate blocking artifacts. Previously designed pre/post-filters are optimized to maximize coding efficiency solely. For image and video communication over unreliable channels, those pre/post-filters are sensitive to transmission errors. This paper addresses the problem of designing pre/post-filters which are more error resilient. Reconstruction performance is measured by how low the average reconstruction error is, and how uniformly the reconstruction error is distributed. A family of pre/post-filters is designed to provide desired tradeoffs between coding efficiency and robustness to transmission errors. Experiments show that these filtering operators can achieve superior reconstruction performance without sacrificing much coding performance.

The performance of the speech recognition system for English classroom teaching is largely affected by the surrounding environment. These interference signals will seriously reduce the quality and intelligibility of the speech signal, thereby greatly reducing the performance of the far-field speech recognition system. Aiming at word order detection in English classroom teaching, this paper proposes an analysis model based on block coding and improved genetic algorithm. Moreover, for DNN-based single-channel speech enhancement algorithms, this paper proposes PDNNs and PLSTMs to solve the problem of serious performance degradation of prototype DNN speech enhancement under low signal-to-noise ratio. This method decomposes the entire enhancement task into multiple subtasks to complete, and the previously completed subtasks will provide prior knowledge for the subsequent subtasks, so that the subsequent subtasks can learn its goals better. In general, the experimental results prove the reliability of the model constructed in this paper.

This work explores the age of information (AoI) impact of block coding with maximum-likelihood decoding (MLD), along with the consideration of polar coding with successive-cancellation (SC) decoding as a realizable subcase by employing an Internet of things (IoT) network, where sensors transmit data over discrete memoryless binary symmetric or erasure channels. A general lower bound for block coding is derived along with the upper bounds depending on the coding schemes. Simulation results indicate that block coding can theoretically outperform no coding up to 20-25% in terms of AoI depending on the block-length of the code. Suitable conditions in polar coding to converge to theoretical MLD performance are discussed.

Most coding strategies that address the problem of questionable alignment (elision, case sensitive, missing, polymorphic, gaps as presence/absence matrix) conflict with phylogenetic principles, particularly those relating to the concept of homology (share similiarity explained by common ancestry). In some cases, the test of conjunction is failed. In other cases, characters that are coded ambiguously can lead to character-state optimization in the terminal taxa that conflicts with the original observations. Only data exclusion and contraction avoid these pitfalls. In highly dissimilar sequences additional character states can represent the available information. Two new methods that accomplish this-block and stretch coding-are introduced here. These two new coding strategies are not in conflict with the test of conjunction and do not contradict the original observations. They are comparable to coding practices with morphological data once the intrinsic differences due to character-state identity and topographical identity have been taken into account. It is suggested that, of the three recoding methods, the one is selected that preserves the maximum potential phylogenetic information as measured with the minimum number of steps required for the particular part of the data matrix.

In this paper a new pel modification technique which preserves some topological properties of two-tone image is proposed. This technique creates more uniform gray-level blocks than were present in the originals two-tone image. This change enhances the compression efficiency of the block coding for two-tone image. The technique is applied on two different types of images and the results show that due to pel modification to compression efficiency is increased by a considerable amount. A suitable post processing smoothing technique is also proposed to recover the quality of the modified image to a great extent during decoding.
