In deep space communication or IoT applications it could be advantageous to minimize the energy expenditures for communication from a spacecraft or wireless sensor node. In some other wireless applications it is advantageous to hide the sources of wireless communication. In this paper an adaptive feedback supported communication technique is proposed which can achieve these goals. To explain the basic building components of it, first a block coding feedback supported technique example is presented for transmission of a random variable with binomial distribution.

One of the major. setbacks of Orthogonal Frequency Multiplexing (OFDM) is its peak-toaverage power ratio.(PAPR). In this paper, an investigation of block coded amplitude clipping and filtering method to reduce further the PAPR in OFDM system is presented. The BER performance of this method is also analyzed. It is shown through simulation that the block coded amplitude clipping and filtering method improves the PAPR and BER performance as compared to a block coding technique.

In existing speech coding systems, all Quantizer Code Books are designed to suit the statistical and perceptual characteristics of speech signals of a population of speakers. However, an individual's speech signal does not exhibit, even over a long time, the entire range of characteristics of the population. With the advent of the personal communication systems, personal information might become available and be used to improve the rate - distortion performance of speech coders. In this paper we assess the potential gain of personal speech coding by designing code books for individual speakers. We use a data structure called TREE to implement the vector quantization. This makes the searching time of the speech samples reduce drastically. Vector quantization (VQ) is an appealing coding technique. In tree structured VQ (TSVQ), the key limitation is storage space, since VQ encoding complexity is greatly reduced by the tree structure.

Popular Wyner-Ziv (WZ) video coders divide the sequences into intra key frames and WZ frames. In this paper, we propose a new block-based coding system that uses hybrid intra and WZ frames. A part of each block is first intra coded and the other parts are WZ coded, in a number of steps. There is no need for key frames;the key information is controlled at the block level and used for motion estimation. This allows the selection of the amount and position of intra information to be locally optimized. The decoder does not use interpolation;rather it uses partial matching to estimate the real motion of the block that is used to generate better side information. The first simulations show promising results and good opportunities of improvement. In addition, this system is completely practical and inherently robust.

In this paper, a novel blind channel estimation algorithm for a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system is described. This algorithm is easier to implement than the previously reported blind estimation algorithms because the channel state information (CSI) is recovered without performing complex mathematical operations such as singular value decomposition (SVD) or eigenvalue decomposition (EVD). The ambiguity associated with the proposed blind estimation is reduced to the phase ambiguity. The proposed channel estimation algorithm is accompanied by new block coding scheme. Using this coding scheme, a block encoder is only required at the transmitter. The proposed scheme is spectral efficient, as it offers the full coding rate when the numbers of transmitting and receiving antennas are equal. The validity of the proposed channel estimation algorithm and coding scheme is verified via computer simulations.

In block coding techniques a harmful effect is the gap between blocks. The mosaic effect is important in smooth areas. In block coding techniques, the subjective quality depends on the mosaic effect. Among regions and on edge zones the mosaic effect is less injurious than in smooth areas. If the difference between blocks coincides with contour areas the visual effect almost disappears. The objective is to select a block with contour boundaries. Then another problem appears. It is not possible to select a regular block that matches exactly with an image region. On the other hand, the coding method will be modified to use irregular blocks. A large zone segmentation provides a uniform characteristic region. The boundaries of these regions will be edge areas. There are several methods of segmentation. We test statistical and morphological methods. We allow slow variation of the selected characteristics within every region. Segmentation coding methods use small regions and store their average gray level. Our method stores the most suitable characteristics for every large region. Sometimes the region will be expanded to a regular zone to use transform coding, such as DCT.

In this paper, we propose a near minimum sparse pattern coding based scheme for binary image compression. Sparse patterns such as those obtained from prediction, image differencing, and other methods can be coded efficiently using the scheme proposed in this paper. In this research we apply our scheme on coordinate representation of rectangular regions via a number of matrices. Such representations allow for efficiently coding these vertices, and hence compress the image significantly. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperformed previously published methods for coordinate data coding by nearly 17%. This scheme has low complexity compared with JBIG2.

This paper investigates the performance of an overloaded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with a repetition code. It has been demonstrated that diversity with block coding prevents the performance degradation induced by signal multiplexing. However, the computational complexity of a joint decoding scheme increases exponentially with the number of multiplexed signal streams. Thus, this paper proposes the use of a repetition code in the overloaded MIMO-OFDM system. In addition, QR decomposition with M-algorithm (QRM) maximum likelihood decoding (MLD) is applied to the decoding of the repetition code. QRM-MLD significantly reduces the amount of joint decoding complexity. In addition, virtual antennas are employed in order to increase the throughput that is reduced by the repetition code. It is shown that the proposed scheme reduces the complexity by about 1/48 for 6 signal streams with QPSK modulation while the BER degradation is less than 0.1dB at the BER of 10(-3).

We are developing a new radio architecture for applying a wireless communication system to controlling and monitoring systems in industrial infrastructure systems. Using polarization angle diversity, we can achieve reliable communication in a non line-of-sight situation. To realize polarization angle diversity, we use a rotating polarized radio wave. When we use polarization angle diversity, we need to distinguish radio waves which are transmitted via different paths. By using new block codes, they can be identify quickly because the block codes don't need any phase locked loop or matched filter. By using a simulation model with five transmission paths, an accuracy of new block codes is shown.

We present and evaluate a new multiple-description coding extension to the international standard for pulse code modulation speech coding (ITU-T Rec. G.711). This extension is inserted between the G.711 encoder and decoder. It uses speech-polarity decomposition to spread the speech signal across two channels thus increasing robustness to channel losses. When both channels deliver their payloads the extension becomes transparent and bit-exact G.711 speech samples are produced-there is no quality penalty. Due to low inter-channel redundancy, block coding, and entropy coding, the average total speech payload bit-rate is no greater than the 64 kbps rate of conventional G.711-there is no rate penalty. When either channel fails to deliver, the remaining channel still produces intelligible speech with moderately reduced quality thanks to a compressed sine-pulse fill-in algorithm. We are not aware of any other viable multiple-description coding extension that simultaneously meets the opposing goals of no quality penalty and no rate penalty.
