A Blind Image Watermarking Scheme Utilizing BTC Bitplanes

This paper presents a novel image watermarking scheme utilizing block truncation coding (BTC). This scheme uses BTC to guide the watermark embedding and extraction processes. During the embedding process, the original cover image is first partitioned into non-overlapping 4x4 blocks. Then, BTC is performed on each block to obtain its BTC bitplane, and the number of '1's in the bitplane is counted. If the watermark bit to be embedded is '1' and the number of '1's is odd, or the watermark bit to be embedded is '0' and the number of '1's is even, then no change is made. Otherwise, by changing at most three pixels in the original image block, the number of '1's (or '0's) in the renewed bitplane are forced to be odd for the watermark bit '1' or to be even for the watermark bit '0'. During the extraction process, BTC is first performed on each block to obtain its bitplane. If the number of '1's in the bitplane is odd, then the embedded watermark bit is '1'. Otherwise, the embedded watermark bit is '0'. The experimental results show that the proposed watermarking method is semi-fragile except for the changes in brightness and contrast;therefore, the proposed method can be used for image authentication.

An image watermarking model based on visual secret sharing (VSS) is proposed for protection of ownership. In the embedding phase, the watermark is first divided by VSS into two parts: a hiding watermark and a secret watermark. Then only the hiding watermark is embedded into the original image and the secret watermark is reserved for watermark extracting by the owner. In the extracting phase, the hiding watermark is extracted from the watermarked image first and then directly superimposed on the secret watermark to recover the watermark information.

Colour image retrieval using pattern co-occurrence matrices based on BTC and VQ

Proposed is an effective feature for colour image retrieval based on block truncation coding (BTC) and vector quantisation (VQ). Each input colour image is decomposed into Y, Cb and Cr components. BTC is performed on the 4 x 4 Y blocks, obtaining a mean pair sequence and a bitplane sequence, and then they are quantised with the contrast pattern codebook and visual pattern codebook to obtain the contrast and visual pattern co-occurrence matrix. VQ is performed on the 4 x 4 Cb blocks and Cr blocks with the Cb codebook and Cr codebook, respectively, to obtain the colour pattern co-occurrence matrix. Retrieval simulation results show that, compared with two existing BTC-based features, the proposed feature can greatly improve retrieval performance.

In this paper, we proposed a novel reversible data hiding scheme for the compressed images for block truncation coding (BTC). In this scheme, the secret data is embedded into the compressed codes of BTC. The histogram shifting technique is employed in the proposed scheme to embed the secret data into the quantization levels of the compressed codes. After the data embedding procedure is executed, the embedded compressed codes still follow the standard format of BTC. The experimental results reveal that the proposed scheme provides good image quality of the embedded image.

Overdriving technique enlarges the desired change of the pixel value, the error in general compression methods is enlarged at the same time. Therefore, we propose a novel Adaptive Quantization coding (AQC) to reduce the error in compression for overdriving technique reducing motion blur. Considering hardware implementation, we develop a hybrid image coding which uses color transform first, and then uses AQC to compress luminance data as well as block truncation coding (BTC) to compress chrominance data. The simulation results shown that the average PSNR was improved 5.676dB as compared with the result of BTC, and the average SD of error was reduced 50.2% than that in the BTC. The proposed algorithm is implemented with the verilog HDL and synthesized with the synopsys design compiler using 0.131 mu m Samsung Library.

block truncation coding is an efficient compression technique while offering good image quality. Nonetheless, the blocking effect inherent in BTC causes severe perceptual artifact in high compression ratio applications. In this paper, an Error-Diffused block truncation coding (EDBTC) is proposed to solve this problem. According to the EDBTC, the error caused by the difference between the original grayscale pixel value and the correspondingly high or low mean substitute is diffused to the predefined neighborhood, and hence the average grayscale will be maintained invariably. In addition, since the compressed data are widely distributed in the internet transmission, the extra message delivering in a secret way also highly raises attention recently. In this paper, we propose the Compressed Steganography using Hidden Referenced Halftoning (CSHRH), which cooperates with error diffusion and ordered dithering to achieve the objective of secret communication in BTC images. As documented in the experimental results, a low complexity with good image quality approach is obtained. Moreover, CSHRH is extended to Secret-Sharing Steganography (SSS) and Color Extension Steganography (CES). The SSS is able to distribute message into multiple host images and hence improves the security. The CES is able to deliver secure message via color embedded CSHRH image. Both extensions are also with an extra benefit of achieving high capacity message convection.

Signal processing in encrypted domain has attracted high attention during the needs of content security and privacy protection. Reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDH-EI) also becomes a hot topic. However, most of the published techniques are designed for uncompressed images rather than JPEG-, VQ- and BTC-compressed images. In this paper, for the first time, a RDH-EI method for AMBTC images is proposed. In this method, the higher mean and lower mean of a triple in AMBTC compressed image is encrypted by using stream cipher with the same random bits. Therefore, the spatial correlation of a nature image is preserved and redundant space can be exploited by using the histogram of prediction error. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can embed considerable bits while leave little distortion.

Shares in image secret sharing play a vital role. These image shares has size greater than or equal to size of original image, it require high bandwidth while transmission. Because of the excessive bandwidth requirements of image there is need to reduce the bandwidth of images. To reduce the size of image, Huffman compression coding techniques are used. By reducing the image share size in Thien and Lin's secret sharing scheme using Huffman coding technique leads to reduced bandwidth overhead. In proposed approach Huffman coding is applied on secret image before applying secret sharing. This approach helps to increase the compression ratio of share images by 14% than existing system.

Content Based Visual data Retrieval is an ongoing research area for efficient data handling on Internet-scale. This paper presents a Hadoop based image search engine framework for extracting similar images from huge volume of available images. Performance of presented approach is evaluated using various image visual feature extraction methods like block truncation coding, Fuzzy Edge Detection and Local Binary Patterns.
