Testing large-scale process integration solutions is complex and cumbersome. To tackle this problem, researchers employed behavior-driven development. They used the business process model and notation language to model domain-specific test cases. These test cases can be understood by both developers and business stakeholders and can be executed automatically.

With the emergence of big data and new data sources, a challenge posed to today's organizations consists of identifying how to align their decision-making and organizational processes to data that could help them make better-informed decisions. This paper presents a study in the context of disaster management in Brazil that applies oDMN(+), a framework that connects decision-making with data sources through an extended modeling notation and a modeling process. The study results revealed that the framework is an effective approach for improving the understanding of how to leverage big data in the organization's decision-making. (C) 2017 The Authors. The Global Track&Trace System for food: General framework and functioning principles

This paper describes the Global Track and Trace System (GUS) developed for supporting the management of food traceability along the food supply chain, from the primary producer to the final consumer. The main goal of GUS is to support the different users involved in a food supply chain and assist in the process of traceability management. The informative system has been developed taking into account the different features of a food supply chain. A general framework has been generated for supporting future evolutions and customizations. Different steps, which involve the phases of supply chain analysis, supply chain modelling, data analysis and data modelling, are at the base of the methodological approach followed during the phase of system design and development. The solution adopted for the information management is generally applicable, which means that it meets the requirements of different types of food industries. The model can be applied in real-life situations that might benefits from the traceability solution. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A comparative study of the utilisation of an electronic test-result management system in emergency and intensive care settings

The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify differences in the utilisation of an electronic medical record test-result management system between two acute care departments. Field observations (130 min) and semi-structured interviews (n = 24) were conducted in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department of an Australian hospital. Work processes identified from audio transcripts were modelled using business process modelling. Comparison of the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit identified the following: (1) test ordering variations according to clinical roles, (2) differences in the use of electronic medical record functionality according to specific demands of the clinical environment and (3) the non-linear components of the test-result management process. Variations were identified in the number of process decisions, external collaborations and temporal process workflows. modelling the business processes, collaboration and communication needs of individual clinical environments can aid in enhancing the quality and appositeness of health information technology interventions and thus contribute to improving patient safety. Future health information technology interventions/evaluations aimed at improving the safety of test-result management processes need to address both the nuances of the clinical environment and accommodate the individual work practices of clinicians within that environment.

PurposeSurgical workflow management in integrated operating rooms (ORs) enables the implementation of novel computer-aided surgical assistance and new applications in process automation, situation awareness, and decision support. The context-sensitive configuration and orchestration of interoperable, networked medical devices is a prerequisite for an effective reduction in the surgeons' workload, by providing the right service and right information at the right time. The information about the surgical situation must be described as surgical process models and distributed to the medical devices and IT systems in the OR. Available modeling languages are not capable of describing surgical processes for this *** this work, the BPMNSIX modeling language for intraoperative processes is technically enhanced and implemented for workflow build-time and run-time. Therefore, particular attention is given to the integration of the recently published IEEE 11073 SDC standard family for a service-oriented architecture of networked medical devices. In addition, interaction patterns for context-aware configuration and device orchestration were *** identified interaction patterns were implemented in BPMNSIX for an ophthalmologic use case. Background The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) produced a 72-page document titled "U.S. Selective Practice Recommendations for Contraceptive Use" in 2016. This document contains the medical eligibility criteria (MEC) for contraceptive initiation or continuation based on a patient's current health status. notations such as business process model and notation (BPMN) and Decision model and notation (DMN) might be useful to model such recommendations. Objective Our objective was to use BPMN and DMN to model and standardize the processes and decisions involved in initiating birth control according to the CDC's MEC for birth control initiation. This model could then be incorporated into an electronic health records system or other digital platform. Methods Medical terminology, processes, and decisions were modeled in coordination with the CDC to ensure correctness. Challenges in terminology bindings were identified and categorized. Results A model was successfully produced. Integration of clearly defined data elements proved to be the biggest challenge. Conclusion BPMN and DMN have strengths and weaknesses when modeling medical processes;however, they can be used to successfully create models for clinical pathways.

Some techniques such as Inception Deck are used in software elicitation phase of the agile methodologies to unify the vision of all the stakeholders. This vision is stored in artifacts such as user stories. However, these artifacts are written in natural language and may, therefore, be ambiguous. Regarding SCRUM, the primary artifact is the product backlog, which in turn contains user stories. This paper describes how software development process with SCRUM can be improved by replacing the user stories with business process models to solve the ambiguity issue.

Companies in dynamic environments have to react to certain market events. Reactions can be short-term and influence the behavior of running process instances or they can be mid-term or long-term and cause the redesign of the process. In both situations, insights into the process flow are necessary and provided by process Data Warehouse Systems. This paper proposes to derive the data warehouse structures from the meta model of the BPMN (business process model and notation), the actual de-facto standard of workflow languages. The resulting data structure is generic in order to be portable between application domains and to be stable in case of changing workflows.

In the context of Industry 4.0, smart factories enable a new level of highly individualized and very efficient production, driven by highly automated processes and connected Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices. Yet the IIoT process context, crucial for operational process enactment, cannot be readily represented in processes as currently modeled. Despite automation progress, manual tasks performed by humans (such as maintenance) remain, and while complicated tasks can be supported by Augmented Reality (AR) devices, they remain insufficiently integrated into global production processes. To seamlessly integrate process automation, IIoT context, and AR, this paper contributes BPMN-CARX, a Context and Augmented Reality eXtension (CARX) for BPMN (business process model and notation) and the CARX Framework, which enables AR and IIoT context integration with existing business process Management Systems (BPMSs). An Industry 4.0 case study demonstrates its feasibility and applicability.

process modeling plays a significant role in the business process lifecycle, as it must stress the quality of process models for supporting all the next steps. However, this phase is time consuming and expensive, a consequence of the huge amount of unstructured input information. In a previous research, we presented an approach for identifying business process elements in natural language texts which facilitate the modeler's work. Such approach relies on a set of mapping rules associated with natural language processing techniques. The identification itself was already validated, but how to apply this information to minimize the modelers' effort remains unclear. Highlighting the identified rules in the text can enhance its comprehensibility. This paper explores the applicability of such mapping rules on supporting the modeler by marked up texts. The validation shows promising results, as the time spent and effort perceived by the modeler were both minimized.
