This paper presents "BPMN Miner", a process discovery technique that uses BPMN as the representational language for the discovery result. The proposed approach is novel in the sense that it is able to represent control-flow with BPMN constructs, but also because it augments the control-flow perspective with an organizational dimension by discovering swimlanes that represent organizational roles in the business process. Additional advantages of the proposed mining approach can be summarized as follows: it provides intuitive and easy-to-use abstraction/specification functionality which makes it applicable to event logs with various complexity levels, it provides instant feedback about the conformance between the input log and the resulting model based on a dedicated fitness metric, it is robust to noise, and it can easily integrate with modeling and other BPM tools with exporting functionality through the XPDL-format. In this way, BPMN Miner will take process mining one step closer to the status of indispensable for business process reengineering as discovered models are immediately available in the preferred language of a majority of practitioners, educators and researchers.

In this paper, we present a tool for the business users to analyze different business scenarios using business process diagrams and ontology-based models. The business scenarios involve different types of entities where the business process diagrams are suitable for describing entities' behaviors. The ontology-based model is proposed to capture entities' attributes and their relations in a hierarchical manner. The tool can automatically construct agent-based simulation models, which can be executed instantly on the agent-based simulation engine without the help of software developers.

business process descriptions are useful documents that are becoming increasingly important for identifying and documenting business processes. They are particularly beneficial during discovery when information about the process is gathered in interviews or by observation. Such business process descriptions are written as natural language text, which makes them intrinsically ambiguous. For this reason, it is the major challenge to formulate them in a precise and correct way right from the start. Therefore, this paper presents a service-oriented architecture that analyzes a process description written in natural language to generate a sound process description. Being sound means that a description is structured, unambiguous, reveals possible quality and soundness problems related to BPMN 2.0, and contains clear identifiers for all known process elements in the original text. More specifically, we develop specific analysis and transformation techniques that are integrated by our proposed architecture. For validation purposes, we have implemented a prototype of this architecture. Our evaluation demonstrates that our techniques to generate sound process descriptions cover an average of 95% of the information extracted from its original process description while maintaining quality properties. Finally, our architecture can be enhanced with additional services that contribute to the creation and management of processes descriptions in organizations.

A microservice-based system is composed of numerous independently deployed and executed microservices, among which normally exist the complex dependencies. Traditional service composition approaches usually expect the business process predefined at design time. As a result, it is difficult for the microservice-based system to quickly adapt to the frequently changing operation environments and business requirements. To address the above limitations, we propose a variability-enabling and model-driven approach to developing adaptive microservice-based systems. Our approach first models the business process with variability using VxBPMN4MS, an extension of business process model and notation (BPMN) with support for variability, then transforms the business process model to variability supported microservice composition frameworks, and finally derives business process instances at run-time according to the predefined process configuration. We have developed a platform to automate the proposed approach as much as possible, and conducted a case study to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach and platform.

The digitization of business processes makes it possible to automate and monitor their execution in real-time and thus to optimize them. However, for inter-organizational business processes the lack of trust and transparency between organizations makes it difficult to realize this potential. Distributed Ledger Technology addresses this issue by design, which makes it attractive as a platform for the execution of digitized inter-organizational business processes. In research, especially the mapping of standardized business process notations on smart contract definition languages is discussed recently, to ease the process development for different kinds of stakeholders. Within this work, we present an approach for the integration, execution and monitoring of modeled business processes based on Hyperledger Fabric's chaincode. Our aim is the reduction of required knowledge about this framework for the integration of business processes in such systems. Therefore, we introduce a reverse translation approach to enable the monitoring of processes defined within a chaincode by providing BPMN 2.0 models, that specify business processes as graphical representations.

business process model and notation (BPMN) provides a graphical representation of business processes of organizations. It becomes a standard to communicate throughout stakeholders from business analysts, customers and programmers by producing an overview of business processes under a common language in analysis and design phases of software life cycle. The paper proposes an approach to integrate business process specifications and their implementations and by introducing some extended elements in the BPMN models with an appropriate mapping mechanism. It is a semi-automatic approach to build an application from BPMN models.

modeling and Simulation are becoming more and more complex, making their design very challenging. modeling and Simulation of complex systems requires simultaneous consideration of several points of view and the study of these systems needs skills belonging to different scientific fields. In Distributed Simulation domain, IEEE 1516-2010 - High Level Architecture (HLA) is one of the most used standard However, it does not provide any official graphical language for defining distributed simulation behaviors. business process model and notation standard could be an interesting solution for defining HLA execution scenario. This paper present application experiment applied to solar power plant. Our proposition consists in restrict the HLA execution process in order to use one federate as Master, controlling the others as Slaves. This allows us to generate a component responsible for the simulation execution process with parsing a business process model and notation diagram. A set of linked activities which is produced for specific service is the definition of the business process model. A business process model is usually generated from event logs of an organization or is formed based on user design. In real life, business process model is used as estimation, prediction, calibration, and optimization of process performance. However in fact there are several problems that occur in the steps of modeling the business process model from event log, such as short loops, invisible prime tasks, and non-free choice. Not all process have a sequence of activities occuring one way (from start activity to end activity). There is a condition called short loops. This condition happens where an activity or several activities in a process are executed more than one time before terminate the process. Several research solved the problem of short loops using matrix and formula. However, none of them applied their method in ontology. This research proposes a method of identifying short loops in ontology. The method is written in SWRL rule. The experiment shows that the method can identify and automate identification of short loops based on the event logs in business process Ontology model as the business process model. This method also becomes the pioneer of short loops detection in ontology.

The aim of our study is to shed light on how academics experience using recorded audio feedback (RAF) as a feedback method in multi-cultural higher e-Education context. We adopted a qualitative content analysis approach, applying thematic network analysis to the data received from three academics (a case study). This approach proposes graphical networks as an aid for analyzing and synthesizing qualitative data into basic, organizing and global themes. The thematic network analysis produced two global, six organizing and 48 basic themes. The two global themes were named "Speaking style" and "Culture neutrality/sensitivity". Based on our analysis, academics can, by using RAF in multi-cultural e-Education context, provide learners neutral and caring feedback. Culture neutrality in RAF treats all learners equally and culture sensitivity in RAF promotes learning and progress taking learners' diversity into account. Based on our analysis we introduce a preliminary RAF process model in multi-cultural higher e-Education context.

The aim of this work is to design and build a pilot agile educational extension for a virtual laboratory, CyberLabTrainSystem. We identified and designed a virtual laboratory educational extesnsion that is based on business Rule Engine (BRE) and business process model and notation (BPMN). The output is a web portal, which allows a teacher to easily implement educational methodologies, curricula and improves monitoring, controlling and interactions with students via the BRE.
