Effects of bioflocs with different c/N ratios on growth, immunological parameters, antioxidants and culture water quality in Opsariichthys kaopingensis Dybowski

Biofloc technology (BFT) is a new ecological aquaculture technology that is intended not only to eradicate pollutants and elevate feed utilization but also to enhance immunity and antioxidant activity in aquatic animals. A 28-day feeding trial was implemented to evaluate the effects of promoted bioflocs on the water quality, growth performance, immunological parameters and antioxidant status of Opsariichthys kaopingensis Dybowski juveniles in low exchange culture tanks. Three hundred sixty healthy O. kaopingensis juveniles (7.1 +/- 0.02 g) were irregularly distributed among 12 tanks. Four c:N ratios in triplicate tanks were tried: c/N = 10.8:1 with a commercial diet (control), c/N = 15:1, c/N = 20:1 and c/N = 25:1. Anhydrous glucose (99.97%) was added to the commercial diet to maintain elevated carbon ratio in the three treatments. Uninterrupted 24-hr aeration was supplied during the test by using an air-stone connected to an air pump to develop the bioflocs in the water column. The results indicated that BFT significantly reduced total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), nitrite (NO2(-)-N), total phosphorus (TP) concentrations and water transparency (Secchi depth) in c/N 15, c/N 20 and c/N 25 (p < .05), whereas the chemical oxygen demand (cOD) and nitrate nitrogen (NO3(-)-N) concentrations gradually increased over time. In addition, weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), survival and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were significantly elevated in c/N 20, while food conversion rate (FcR) was considerably decreased (p < .05) in c/N 20, compared with the control. Significant increases in lysozyme (LSZ), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activities of O. kaopingensis were found in the c/N 20 group after a 28-day feeding trial (p < .05). comparing the antioxidant capacity of O. kaopingensis in gills, brains, kidneys, hepatopancreas, intestines and serum of juveniles from the four experimental groups, the acti

On the Performance of Portable NiMH Batteries of General Use

NiMH batteries are the most used technology of rechargeable batteries sold directly to consumers. Herein, we study the performance of the most common sizes of portable NiMH batteries (AA, AAA, D, c, and 9V). The performance and durability parameters-capacity, charge retention, charge recovery, and endurance in cycles-are measured for these types of batteries, according to the standard IEc 61951-2:2017 NiMH batteries. The purpose of this study is to create a basis for setting minimum performance requirements for the parameters in the European Regulation concerning batteries and waste batteries, EU 2023/1542, Annex III, Part B. Results show that the charging time of 16 h could be reduced to 8 h for verifying the rated capacity. The performance of commercial batteries with regard to charge retention, charge recovery, and endurance in cycles is often found to be 25-30% better than required in the relevant IEc standard. Furthermore, we present a short comparative analysis of an application test (IEc 60086-2:2021 "toy") for portable NiMH batteries with primary batteries. Such data allow comparing the performance of portable NiMH batteries compared to primary batteries in the application test "toy".

High temperature corrosion performance of ceria doped cr 3 c 2 -Nicr coated superalloys under actual medical waste atmosphere

Incineration technique is well known process which has been adopted to burn medical or municipal waste. Burning of medical waste generates contaminated environment which can be harmful for the components of incinerator. As the temperature is very high in incinerator, austentic steel and superalloys are generally used in construction of the components. However these alloys also suffered corrosion which can be delayed for some time by providing a coating protection on the surface of the alloys before installation. Hence, in this study, ceria incorporated cr 3 c 2 -Nicr coating powder was deposited on Superni 600 and Superco 605 superalloys. For deposition, one of the thermal spray techniques know as detonation gun was used. The coated samples were drilled to hang using wire in the secondary chamber of incinerator operating at 1050 °c for 1000 h in a hospital. It was observed that coated Superco 605 suffered more corrosion as compared to coated Superni 600.

Process for the Recovery of Actinide and Lanthanide Oxides via Thermal Decomposition and calcination of Loaded Diglycolamide Resin

Diglycolamide (DGA) resin, a product produced by Eichrom Technologies, Inc. employs TODGA (N,N,N ',N '-tetraoctyldiglycolamide) as the active extractant, which will be used by Savannah River National Laboratory to extract trivalent actinides and lanthanides from dissolved irradiated Mark-18A targets. The final form of the extracted material will be an oxide suitable for shipment. A two-step process was developed and validated for the direct recovery of actinides and lanthanides loaded on I-grade DGA resin as nitrates by thermally drying and decomposing resin loaded with Nd(III), a surrogate for trivalent actinides and lanthanides, under inert conditions followed by calcining the resultant residue in air to provide an oxide product. A stepwise heating profile up to 385 degrees c under argon gas flow resulted in 85% to 89% mass loss during the resin drying and decomposition step, and calcination of the resultant Nd-loaded resin residue provided an overall material mass loss of >= 98%. Recoveries from resin saturated with Nd(III) from 7 M and 0.35 M nitric acid subjected to this process were 30.7 mg and 27.6 mg Nd/g dry resin, respectively, representing an average of 96.1% of Nd retained in the resin bed.

Recently, single atom catalysts (SAcs) with isolated metal atom as the active site have received extensive attention for their excellent catalytic performance. However, limited by the strong aggregation tendency of monometallic atoms, the construction of SAcs remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we developed a facile ternary copolymerization-pyrolysis approach to synthesize a single cobalt atom catalyst (co1@Nc) by employing amino-functionalized cobalt phthalocyanine (coPc(NH2)4) as the metal precursor. Specially, coPc(NH2)4 was copolymerized with melamine and 1,4-phthalaldehyde to yield a terpolymer, thereby allowing coPc to be more uniformly and stably distributed in the polymer network. Subsequently, the obtained terpolymer was pyrolyzed to afford co1@Nc. Aberration-corrected high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (Ac HAADF-STEM) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) directly confirmed that the catalyst co1@Nc was a single cobalt atom catalyst. Furthermore, the large specific surface area (SBET = 418.8 m2/g) and high cobalt content (2.71 wt%) of co1@Nc provided more cobalt active sites and therefore displayed excellent catalytic activity in the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene. In addition, the catalyst showed remarkable cyclic stability in five cycles and remained as the single atom catalyst.

Synergistically Tuning Graphene Layer and Active Sites for Flexible Zn-Air Batteries

Fewer layer graphene principally has a higher surface area to support more catalytic sites for energy conversion, but it is still challenging to synthesize monolayer graphene without oxidation from graphite at a low cost. Here, a method for synergistically thinning graphene layers and constructing catalytic sites to create a superior bifunctional oxygen catalyst through vapor intercalation of multi-layer graphene or its derivatives is described. The synthesized small sheet sizes of 1-2 layer graphene-supported FeN4 and Feco active sites exhibit superior reversible activity of oxygen reduction and evolution reactions with a low overall overpotential of 0.648 V. The sheet-shaped catalyst is further used to fabricate flexible soft-packed and wearable cable-type quasi-solid-state zinc-air batteries, achieving high performances (>188 mW cm(-2), >450 cycles) and enabling smartphone charging. DFT calculations reveal that fewer layer graphene coupled with atomic FeN4 and alloy Feco sites enables lower Gibbs free energy for favorable OOH* intermediate adsorption/desorption benefiting superior oxygen redox process. This study introduces a strategy for scalable synthesis of 1-2 layer graphene from cheap microcrystalline graphite minerals for wearable and durable energy devices.

Microstructure and mechanical behaviour of Al/B 4 c metal matrix composite

In the present investigation, an attempt was made to develop an aluminium base metal matrix composite with lightweight and good mechanical properties. In this study, AA2014 aluminium alloy was taken as matrix material which density is 2.80 g/cm 3 . Reinforcement material was taken as B 4 c which density is 2.52 g/cm 3 . Uniform distribution of boron carbide was observed inside the AA2014 matrix material. Maximum hardness and tensile strength were found for 10 wt% reinforced boron carbide composite. Toughness, ductility and density reduced by increasing the boron carbide percentage in the matrix material.

This work explained about the hardness, density and tensile behavior of AMMcs and also recognizes the influence of cr 3 c 2 into AA7075 under casting process on their mechanical properties. The composites are obtained through stir casting process with 2.5, 5 and 7.5 wt% of cr 3 c 2 . It is observed that the mechanical properties of the composites are increased with increasing weight percentage of reinforced material. The results are analyzed with optical micro structural images. The optimum hardness and tensile strength were observed at 5 wt% cr 3 c 2 composite than other wt% of composites as well as monolithic base material.
