Hepatitis c virus antigens enzyme immunoassay for one-step diagnosis of hepatitis c virus coinfection in human immunodeficiency virus infected individuals

BAcKGROUND current diagnosis of hepatitis c virus(HcV)infection requires two sequential steps:testing for anti-HcV followed by HcV RNA PcR to confirm *** have developed a highly sensitive and specific HcV-antigens enzyme immunoassay(HcV-Ags EIA)for one-step diagnosis of viremic HcV *** To assess the clinical application of the HcV-Ags EIA in one-step diagnosis of viremic HcV infection in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-coinfected *** The study blindly tested HcV-Ags EIA for its performance in one-step diagnosing viremic HcV infection in 147 sera:10 without HcV or HIV infection;54 with viremic HcV monoinfection;38 with viremic HcV/HIV coinfection;and 45 with viremic HcV and non-viremic HIV *** Upon decoding,it was 100%accordance of HcV-Ags EIA to HcV infection status by HcV RNA PcR *** five sera with HcV infection,HcV RNA was as low as 50-59 IU/mL,and four out of five tested positive for HcV-Ags ***,it was also 100%accordance of HcV-Ags EIA to HcV infection status by HcV RNA PcR in 83 sera with HcV and HIV coinfection,regardless if HIV infection was active or *** The modified HcV-Ags EIA has a lower detection limit equivalent to serum HcV RNA levels of approximately 100 IU/*** is highly sensitive and specific in the setting of HIV coinfection,regardless of HIV infection status and cD4 *** data support the clinical application of the HcV-Ags EIA in one-step diagnosis of HcV infection in HIV-infected individuals.

Evolution of Physical and Mechanical Properties of Al5083/B 4 c composites fabricated through Stir casting

In the present work, Aluminium composites were fabricated through conventional stir casting process. The composites were fabricated at 800°c inside the electric furnace in the presence of inert gas. AA5083 and B 4 c particulates with varying weight % of 5, 10, 15 and 20 were used as the starting materials. The microstructure of the composites was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The physical and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated and the results show that the increase in B 4 c content in the aluminium matrix increases the tensile strength and hardness of the composites to a significant level. The decrease in density accompanied by increase in porosity was also observed with the increase in B 4 c.

BAcKGROUND Occult hepatitis c virus(HcV) infection(OcI) may be associated with extrahepatic diseases and it is known that the patients with chronic kidney disease(cKD) who are on hemodialysis(HD) present a higher prevalence of this type of infection than the general population, with a worse clinical ***, there are no data in the literature to assess the presence of OcI in patients prior to the initiation of renal replacement therapy(RRT). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the occurrence and epidemiological aspects of OcI in patients with Predialysis cKD. We hypothesize that this infection could occur before RRT *** To research the status in predialysis patients when HD patients have high prevalence of *** A cross-sectional study was conducted between 2015 and 2017. Adults with creatinine clearance < 60 mL/min·1.73 m^2(predialysis patients) were recruited to the study. Pregnant and postpartum women, patients with glomerulopathies,and patients showing positivity for serological markers of hepatitis B virus(HBV), HcV or human immunodeficiency virus infection were excluded. Patients were diagnosed with OcI according to test results of anti-HcV antibody negativity and HcV RNA positivity in either ultracentrifuged serum or, if serumnegative, in peripheral blood mononuclear *** Among the 91 total patients included in the study, the prevalence of OcI was 16.5%. BAcKGROUND Infection by the hepatitis c virus(HcV) is currently considered to be a global health issue, with a high worldwide prevalence and causing chronic disease in afflicted individuals. The disease largely involves the liver but it can affect other organs, including the skin. While leukocytoclastic vasculitis has been reported as one of the dermatologic manifestations of HcV infection, there are no reports of this condition as the first symptom of HcV recurrence after liver *** SUMMARY We report here a case of leukocytoclastic vasculitis in a liver transplant recipient on maintenance immunosuppression. The condition presented as a palpable purpura in both lower extremities. Blood and urine cultures were negative and all biochemical tests were normal, excepting evidence of anemia and hypocomplementemia. Imaging examination by computed tomography showed a small volume of ascites, diffuse thickening of bowel walls, and a small bilateral pleural effusion. Skin biopsy showed leukocytoclasia and fibrinoid *** biopsy was suggestive of HcV recurrence in the graft, and HcV polymerase chain reaction yielded 11460 copies/mL and identified the genotype as 1 A. Treatment of the virus with a 12-wk direct-acting antiviral regimen of ribavirin, sofosbuvir and daclatasvir led to regression of the symptoms within the first 10 d and subsequent complete resolution of the *** This case highlights the difficulties of diagnosing skin lesions caused by HcVinfection in immunosuppressed patients.

Modulation of the nonlinear optical response and transient dynamics of cdO/Ag/cdO sandwich-type films

Sandwich-type materials with tunable optical response and enhanced optical nonlinearity are of great importance for future nanophotonic devices. Herein, we investigate the third-order nonlinear optical response and transient dynamics of a series of cdO/Ag/cdO sandwich-type films with different Ag sputtering time. SEM images demonstrate that the Ag layer in cdO/Ag/cdO sandwich-type films change from a nanoisland to semicontinuous film with increase of Ag sputtering time. Z-scan measurements indicate that the cdO/Ag/cdO sandwich-type films exhibit huge nonlinear optical response on both femtosecond and picosecond time regime. The maximum nonlinear absorption coefficient (& beta;= 1.605 x 10-8m/W) and nonlinear refractive index (n2 = -6.70 x 10-15m2/W) of the cdO/Ag/cdO film with 4 min Ag sputtering time are obtained in picosecond Z-scan, which are about 17 and 10 times greater than that of the single-layer cdO, respectively. Transient absorption spectroscopy results confirm the effect of increased cdO/Ag/cdO interface binding on the thermal electron transfer mechanism. A model is proposed to describe the ultrafast dynamic processes in the cdO/Ag/cdO sandwich-type films. Our results indicate the cdO/Ag/cdO sandwich-type films with tailored nonlinear optical properties are highly promising for applications of optical switches devices.

The intertextual relations created by chinese translations of H. c. Andersen's tales

The chinese translations of H. c. Andersen's tales date back more than 100 years. His tales have been extensively read by chinese readers and have provided rich resources and inspiration for chinese authors. Ultimately, Andersen's tales have achieved various forms of afterlife in china through translation and the reading of translated texts. At the same time, this afterlife has also enriched meanings of Andersen's tales that were not carried in their original texts. The original texts, their translations and the chinese modern literary works as post-texts have thus woven a net that meshes various types of intertextual relation created by translation practices. The present study will try to present these relations through textual analysis. In addition, through analysing the intertextual relations created by literary translation, this study also attempts to stimulate greater academic interest in the cultural and literary functions of translation, which are two of the important social functions that translation practices may fulfil.

Silicon (Si)-based materials are intensively pursued as the most promising anode materials for next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to their high theoretical mass-specific capacity, moderate working potential, and high abundance in the earth's crust. Therefore, it has attracted widespread attention both from academia and industries. Despite the above advantages, the electrochemical performance is hampered by severe volume variation, resulting in poor cyclability and subsequently electrode failure. In this regard, nanostructured Si anodes and their composite electrodes might overcome these problems holding back the utilization of Si-based anodes in LIBs by providing facetious strain relaxation, short lithium diffusion distance, improved mass transport, and efficacious electrical contact. This review offers a holistic summary of chemistry, uniqueness, synthetic strategies, and practical applications of Si-based materials with a focus on presenting the development in the Si nanotubes, nanoparticles, nanowires, porous Si, SiOx, their composite materials with carbon, graphene cages, metals, and metal oxides as anode materials in LIBs. In the end, we present the research outlook for the development of Si/SiOx/c-based materials in the future, including fundamental design and various applications in addressing the challenges mentioned earlier.

Evaluation of outcomes reported in randomized controlled trials for herbal remedies for adults with chronic hepatitis c

Background:Herbal remedies have been widely utilized in treating chronic hepatitis c (cHc) *** appropriate outcomes to reflect both beneficial and harmful effects is a crucial step in designing randomized controlled trials (RcTs).This study evaluated the outcomes reported in RcTs on herbal remedies for cHc with comparison to the core outcomes recommended by the cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group (cHBG),to check the consistency of the outcomes and to provide recommendation for future ***:A systematic literature search was conducted in Western and chinese databases to identify RcTs on herbal remedies for adults with *** each trial,all the outcomes reported in the results section were *** between trial outcomes and cHBG core outcomes were evaluated and summarized with descriptive ***:A total of 116 RcTs involving 9154 participants were included;27 outcomes were *** reported outcomes included alanine aminotransferase (64 trials,55.2%),adverse events (58 trials,50.0%),and end-of-treatment virological response (50 trials,43.1%).All trials indicated that the herbal remedies under investigation had a positive effect and was markedly more effective than the *** half of the trials reported that the combination of herbal medicine and antiviral drugs could ameliorate adverse *** few trials reported primary core outcomes relating survival and quality of *** most frequently reported core outcomes are non-serious adverse events (54 trials,46.6%),viral response (27 trials,23.3%),and biochemical response (24 trials,20.7%).conclusion:The variation and inconsistency in trial outcomes impedes research synthesis efforts,and indicate the need for comparable outcomes through the development of core outcome sets in *** low concordance of outcome reporting could be improved by following cHBG core outcomes recommendation.

Progressive reversible data hiding in encrypted images based on polynomial secret sharing and chinese remainder theorem

In the current distributed environment, reversible data hiding in encrypted images has the disadvantages of low security and nonprogressivity. To address this problem, a homomorphic embedding algorithm is proposed based on polynomial secret sharing (PSS) and chinese remainder theorem. First, the image owner encrypts the carrier image in streaming encryption and sends it to the data hider. Then, the data hider utilizes PSS to split the carrier image into n shares. At the same time, extra secrets after SS are embedded into the carrier shares using homomorphism. After splitting by chinese remainder theorem, every share of the embedded data is divided into some sub-shares and then distributed to the participants. The participants that satisfy the threshold condition provide part or all of the sub-shares according to the authority of the data extractor. If each participant provides all sub-shares, the secrets and carrier image can be reconstructed completely. If each participant provides part of the sub-shares, the secrets and carrier image can be reconstructed partly. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has progressivity, high security, and a large embedding rate (ER). Meanwhile, the ER is not affected by the carrier image.
