Impact of source/drain doping concentration on graphene nanoribbon field effect transistor performance

Graphene nanoribbon field effect transistor is considered as a next-generation device. In this study, effect on device performance parameters such as on and off state currents, cut-off frequency, delay and transconductance at different source and drain (S/D) doping concentrations is investigated. It is observed that changing the S/D doping concentrations has an impact on band-to-band tunnelling which affects the device performance. This study also reveals that the minimum conductivity point, i.e. Dirac point decreases with increase in doping concentration. The obtained results are based on non-equilibrium Green's function formalism, along with p(z) orbital band model. Poisson's equation solver is used to calculate the electrostatic potential. The results obtained show that the device performance greatly depends on the S/D doping concentration.

Effect of diminazene aceturate,levamisole and vitamin c combination therapy in rats experimentally infected with Trypanosoma brucei brucei

Objective:To investigate the effect of diminazene aceturale(DA) alone or in combination with either levamisole and/or Vitamin c in albino rats experimentally infected with Trypanosoma brucei ***:Thirty adult male albino rats,randomly assigned into 6 groups(A—F) of 5rats each were *** were either infected with 1×10~a trypanosomes intraperitoneally(groups A-E) or uninfected(group F).The different groups were treated respectively as follows:group A-with 3.5 mg/kg DA;group B-3.5 mg/kg DA and 7.5 mg/kg levamisole;group c-3.S mg/kg DA and 100 mg/kg vitamin c;and group D-3.S mg/kg DA and 7.S mg/kg levamisole and 100 mg/kg vitamin *** E was left *** assessed include:rectal temperature,body weight changes,packed cell volume(PcV),Haemoglobin concentration(Hb),total leucocyte count(TLc) differential leucocyte count(DLc),parasitaemia,clinical signs and ***:Average pre-patent period of 5 days was *** in the blood were cleared in all treated groups(A-D) within 48 hours post treatment(PT).Untreated rats in group E died between25 and 32 days post infection(PI).Relapse was not recorded in all the treated groups(A-D).The initial reduction in PcV,Hb,TLc and increases in rectal temperature following infection were reversed by the *** rats that received drug combinations(groups B,c and D)showed faster and higher recovery rates than the uninfected control and group ***:Levamisole and/or Vitamin c combination with DA were more effective in the treatment of rats infected with Trypanosoma brucei brucei.

Q-switched thulium-doped fibre ring lasers operating at 1.9 μm using multi-walled carbon nanotubes in UV-curing resin

The passively Q-switched operation of all-fibre thulium fibre lasers using UV-curing resin doped with multi-walled carbon nanotubes as a saturable absorber is demonstrated. A single-mode thulium-doped silica fibre is pumped by a laser diode emitting at 1.63 mu m through a wavelength-division multiplexing coupler. Unidirectional laser output from the fibre ring resonator is attained by using the retroreflector at the counter-directional output port. The fibre laser exhibits 1.9 mu m wavelength pulsed oscillation at a repetition rate of 7.2 kHz. When the pump power is increased to 161 mW, the output pulse power is measured by 150 mW with a pulse width of 3.2 mu s.

Vertical ExB drifts from radar and c/NOFS observations in the Indian and Indonesian sectors: consistency of observations and model

In this paper, we analyze vertical ExB drifts obtained from the Doppler shifts of the daytime 150km radar echoes from two radar stations located off the magnetic equator, namely, Gadanki in India and Kototabang in Indonesia, and compare those with corresponding coupled Ion Neutral Dynamics Investigation (cINDI) observations onboard the c/NOFS satellite and the Scherliess-Fejer model in an effort to understand to what extent the low-latitude vertical ExB drifts of the 150km region represent the F region vertical ExB drifts. The radar observations were made during 9-16 LT in January, June, July, and December 2009. A detailed comparison reveals that vertical ExB drifts observed by the radars at both locations agree well with those of cINDI and differ remarkably from those of the model. Importantly, the model and observed drifts show large disagreement when the observed drifts are either large or downward. Further, while the cINDI as well as the radar observations from the two longitudes are found to agree with each other on the average, they differ remarkably on several occasions when compared on a one-to-one basis. The observed difference in detail is due to measurements made in different volumes linked with latitudinal and/or longitudinal differences and underlines the role of neutral dynamics linked with tides and gravity waves in the two longitude sectors on the respective vertical ExB drifts. The results presented here are the first of their kind and are expected to have wider applications in furthering our understanding on fine-scale longitudinal variabilities in the ionosphere in general and ionospheric electrodynamics in the Indian and Indonesian sectors in particular.

carbon nanotubes pickup by van der Waals force based on nanorobotics manipulation inside SEM

A method of picking up carbon nanotubes (cNTs) from nanotube bulk by van der Waals force inside a scanning electron microscopy is presented. An atomic force microscope cantilever was employed as end effector of nanorobotics manipulators for cNT picking up. A manipulation strategy was established by analysing the van der Waals force of three different types of contacting models. Three groups of experiments were designed and carried out to investigate the effects of different factors. Factors including pickup angle, pickup contact area between the cNT and the cantilever and pickup speed of the end effector were discussed. The results shown that a pickup angle at 90.1 degrees and a pickup speed lower than 10 nm/step with a pickup contact length more than 1.5 mu m would increase the probability of picking up cNT successfully.

A polydimethylsiloxane microchannel featuring sidewall sharp-edge structures and bare channels, and a piezoelement transducer is attached to a thin glass slide. When an external acoustic field is applied to the microchannel, the oscillation of the sharp-edge structures and the thin glass slide generate acoustic streaming flows which in turn rotate single cells and c. elegans in-plane and out-of-plane.

Organisms are constantly exposed to environmental stimuli and have evolved mechanisms of protection and adaptation. Various effects of nanoparticles (NPs) on crops have been described and some results confirm that NPs could enhance plant growth at the physiological and genetic levels. This study comparatively analysed the effect of carbon nanotubes (cNTs) on rice growth. The results showed that single-wall cNTs were located in the intercellular space while multi-wall cNTs penetrated cell walls in roots. cNTs could promote rice root growth through the regulation of expression of the root growth related genes and elevated global histone acetylation in rice root meristem zones. These responses were returned to normal levels after cNTs were removed from medium. cNTs caused the similar histone acetylation and methylation statuses across the local promoter region of the cullin-RING ligases 1 (cRL1) gene and increased micrococcal nuclease accessibility of this region, which enhanced this gene expression. The authors results suggested that cNTs could cause plant responses at the cellular, genetic, and epigenetic levels and these responses were independent on interaction modes between root cells and cNTs.

Interdigitated transducer ammonia sensors based on nanodiamond/polyaniline thin film

The interdigitated transducers sensor based on nanodiamond (ND)/polyaniline (PANI) thin film for ammonia (NH3) sensing is investigated, which is synthesised by in situ chemical oxidative polymerisation. The experimental result reveals that the response of 30ND/PANI thin film sensor is much higher than that of PANI for NH3 gas detection. The ND is homogeneously combined into PANI to form ND/PANI nanocomposite, which may increase the specific surface area and improve the response of ND/PANI sensor. Moreover, the response mechanism of ND/PANI for NH3 gas detection is discussed. The synthesised thin films are characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and SEM.

Synergistic effects of graphene-polyaniline counter electrode in dye-sensitised solar cells

This research studied the preparation of polyaniline/graphene hybrid material as a counter electrode in dye-sensitised solar cells by drop casting onto fluorine-doped tin oxide glass slides. Scanning electron microscope measurement revealed the rough surface of the hybrid films. The results have also shown that 1:2 ratio of PANI/graphene hybrid counter electrode provided a synergy that offered a comparable conversion efficiency to that of conventional Pt electrode.
