Implementing Support for Pointers to Private Data in a General-Purpose Secure Multi-Party compiler

Recent compilers allow a general-purpose program (written in a conventional programming language) that handles private data to be translated into a secure distributed implementation of the corresponding functionality. The resulting program is then guaranteed to provably protect private data using secure multi-party computation techniques. The goals of such compilers are generality, usability, and efficiency, but the complete set of features of a modern programming language has not been supported to date by the existing compilers. In particular, recent compilers PIccO and the two-party ANSI c compiler strive to translate any c program into its secure multi-party implementation, but they currently lack support for pointers and dynamic memory allocation, which are important components of many c programs. In this work, we mitigate the limitation and add support for pointers to private data and consequently dynamic memory allocation to the PIccO compiler, enabling it to handle a more diverse set of programs over private data. Because doing so opens up a new design space, we investigate the use of pointers to private data (with known as well as private locations stored in them) in programs and report our findings. Aside from dynamic memory allocation, we examine other important topics associated with common pointer use such as reference by pointer/address, casting, and building various data structures in the context of secure multi-party computation. This results in enabling the compiler to automatically translate a user program that uses pointers to private data into its distributed implementation that provably protects private data throughout the computation. We empirically evaluate the constructions and report on the performance of representative programs.

Prevailing 64bit-OS enables us to use a large memory address space in computer programming general. However, the actual physical memory becomes the limitation in utilizing it fully. When a program requires more memory than available physical memory in a computer, a traditional virtual memory system performs the page swap between a local hard disk and physical memory. Here, with the recent development in high-speed network, remote-memory access via networks becomes faster than accessing a local hard disk. We built the Distributed Large Memory System (DLM) to access vast remote memories in networks. The DLM is designed as a user-level software for high portability. The DLM provides a very large virtual memory using remote memories distributed over cluster nodes. This paper proposes a newly designed c compiler for the DLM. It provides an easy programming interface to use the abundant memory of the DLM with existing sequential programs, instead of developing parallel programs.

When a novice programmer starts learning computer programming, c or Java are often employed. They are general purpose and useful languages, but for Japanese novice programmers these programming languages are difficult. One reason for this difficulty is English keywords employed in these programming languages;that is, these words are not in Japanese learner's native language. Recently, for Japanese novice programmers, "Nihongo-based" programming languages have been developed in Japan. PEN is a Nihongo-based programming language for education. A programming environment has been developed for PEN, and the environment has an interpreter. However, there has not been developed a compiler for PEN. In this paper, we aim to develop a compiler for PEN language;actually, we develop a translator from PEN into c, and we finally obtain a binary code with a c compiler such as gcc.

The main goal of c to VHDL compiler project is to make FPGA platform more accessible for scientists and software developers. FPGA platform offers unique ability to configure the hardware to implement virtually any dedicated architecture, and modern devices provide sufficient number of hardware resources to implement parallel execution platforms with complex processing units. All this makes the FPGA platform very attractive for those looking for efficient heterogeneous, computing environment. current industry standard in development of digital systems on FPGA platform is based on HDLs. Although very effective and expressive in hands of hardware development specialists, these languages require specific knowledge and experience, unreachable for most scientists and software programmers. c to VHDL compiler project attempts to remedy that by creating an application, that derives initial VHDL description of a digital system (for further compilation and synthesis), from purely algorithmic description in c programming language. This idea itself is not new, and the c to VHDL compiler combines the best approaches from existing solutions developed over many previous years, with the introduction of some new unique improvements.

A method for representation of floating-point numbers with the help of integers is proposed. Simple mathematical operations involving the former are also defined in the new representation. High level codes developed for fixed-point targets may contain floating point expressions and simple modifications in the code according to the proposed conversions can produce optimized codes consisting of only integers. These codes are seen to execute approximately 10%-40% faster.

This paper addresses the problem of compiler design for Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). In it a c compiler designed for the MAS family of DSPs, that are primarily designed for real-time audio and speech applications, is described. During the development of this compiler several problems related to the highly asymmetric architecture were faced. In this paper we describe the support for different memory word - accumulator length, the use of instructions with memory operands, MAc instructions, of auto increment/decrement feature of address generators and hardware loops. Also we present ways to improve resource allocation, context saving and synchronize code. The effects of such procedures have been illustrated, using DSPStone tests.
