Teaching c plus plus programming using automated unit testing and test-driven development-Design and efficacy study

The best practices of agile software development have had a significant positive impact on the quality of software and time-to-delivery. As a result, many leading software companies employ some form of agile software development practices. Some of the most important best practices of agile software development, which have received significant attention in recent years, are automated unit testing (AUT) and test-driven development (TDD). Both of these practices work in conjunction to provide numerous benefits. AUT leads to reduced time to test, discover bugs, fix bugs, and implement new features;wider and measurable test coverage;reproducibility, reusability, consistency, and reliability of tests;improved accuracy, regression testing, parallel testing, faster feedback cycle, reduced cost, and higher team morale. The benefits of TDD include flexible and adaptive program design, cleaner interfaces, higher code quality, maintainability, extensibility, reliability, detailed evolving specification, reduced time on bug fixes and feature implementation, reliable refactoring, and code changes, reduced cost, reduced development time, and increased programmer productivity. Unfortunately, students in introductory programming courses are generally not introduced to AUT and TDD. This leads to the development of bad programming habits and practices which become harder to change later on. By introducing the students earlier to these industry-standard best practices, not only the motivation and interest of students in this area can be increased but also their academic success and job marketability can be enhanced. This paper presents the detailed design and efficacy study of an introductory c++ programming course designed using the principles of AUT and TDD. Data convolution clustering algorithm of sports computer intelligence training and financial management system based on c++ programming is studied in the paper. This study combines the error programs, defect location information, and repair options to obtain extended c/c++ programs with selection expressions, and convert them into corresponding SKETcH programs. Then, use the correct sample programs as constraints for the SKETcH program synthesizer. Through this operation, the c++ efficiency will be improved. Further, the designed data clustering algorithm is applied into the analysis of the sports computer intelligence training and the novel financial management system is then designed and implemented. Through the verification, the systematic results are demonstrated.

Exploring stream parallel patterns in distributed MPI environments

In recent years, the large volumes of stream data and the near real-time requirements of data streaming applications have exacerbated the need for new scalable algorithms and programming interfaces for distributed and shared-memory platforms. To contribute in this direction, this paper presents a new distributed MPI back end for GRPPI, a c++ high-level generic interface of data-intensive and stream processing parallel patterns. This back end, as a new execution policy, supports distributed and hybrid (distributed+shared-memory) parallel executions of the Pipeline and Farm patterns, where the hybrid mode combines the MPI policy with a GRPPI shared-memory one. These patterns internally leverage distributed queues, which can be configured to use two-sided or one-sided MPI primitives to communicate items among nodes. A detailed analysis of the GOP! MPI execution policy reports considerable benefits from the programmability, flexibility and readability points of view. The experimental evaluation of two different streaming applications with different distributed and shared-memory scenarios reports considerable performance gains with respect to the sequential versions at the expense of negligible GRPPI overheads. Development of a computer-aided application using Lane's algorithm to optimize cut-off grade

The maximization of net present value (NPV) is a primary objective in open pit mine planning processes. In an attempt to meet this objective, cut-off grades are considered in all the stages of mining. There are three stages involved in resource extraction, namely mining, processing, and refining/marketing, which are all defined in Lane's approach. Using Lane's approach, the economics involved in each stage are identified independently and interact to provide an optimum cut-off grade. A hypothetical block model is used to illustrate how a computer application (cut-off Grade Optimiser) that was developed in this study is used in the optimization of cut-off grades using Lane's algorithm. This paper analyses the application of Lane's approach for a single element in cut-off grade optimization as applied in the calculation of the optimum cut-off grade through a computer-aided application. Although Lane's approach is not complex it is not widely applied to maximize the NPV of mining operations as the iterative calculations can be lengthy. The computer application developed in this study shows how Lane's algorithm combined with a linear programming function can optimize cut-off grade with regard to the complex situations faced by mining operations. The application saves users from performing otherwise lengthy, iterative calculations.

The comparison of different mathematical methods to determine the BOD parameters, a new developed method and impacts of these parameters variations on the design of WWTPs

One of the most common tests for the determination of strength and organic content of wastewater is the biochemical oxygen demand (BOO). This test is widely applied to define organic water pollution and to control the performance of wastewater treatment plants. Generally, BOD is standardized by the measurement of oxygen consumption in 5 days (BOD5). But, determination of the ultimate biochemical oxygen demand (BODu), which is taken 28 days and the reaction rate constant (k) are necessary to understand the organic strength of the wastewater. In this study, the different mathematical methods in order to determine the BOO parameters (BODu, k) and two different BOO test method (respirometer and dilution method) are investigated comparatively. Also, a new method based on cubic spline method to estimate ultimate BOD values is developed. Moreover, the impacts of BOD parameters on the design of an activated sludge and aerated lagoon systems are analyzed by using a written user-friend program, which is developed for designing WWTPs by the mean of c++ programming language. Analytical results show that there is a satisfactory linear relationship between respirometric and dilution BOO values. Also, the mathematical methods, including new developed method generally provide consistent results with high correlation coefficients. On the other hand, it is found that LOG differences method for respirometric test and the new developed method for dilution test do not give good correlation coefficients. Moreover, activated sludge and aerated lagoons systems' sizes show significant changing depending on the variations of the BOD parameters. consequently, BOD parameters show significant changes depending on the different test and mathematical methods. Therefore, the changing of these parameters impact a lot of situation such as ultimate BOD estimation, the wastewater treatment plants design, the dimensions of the plants and cost of the plants. the mini UAV systems design, from the electronic hardware point of view, implies stronger limitations to weight and power consumption. In the case of non-homogenous architecture and different algorithms, we can use a single processor unit like Pc or ARM. But in the case of complex algorithm with great amount of data coming from sensors, there is a great problem with stability and real time responses. We present decomposition of the UAV into parts related to sensors, processing, control, communication and drive actuators. Each part can be implemented on FPGA as IP core or programmed on soft processors. This decomposition led to consistency, stability in time and future extensions with minimal problems.

Operating systems is the last required course in our undergraduate computer Science major. Although our students have had two semesters of programming in c++, one in assembler, and a semester of data structures using the c++ Standard Template Library, many of them have weak mastery of some important programming topics. In addition, they have had minimal exposure to using these constructs with real world data structures. In this paper we describe how we have used the assignments in a Linux-based Operating Systems course to remedy these deficiencies while teaching a full semester of OS content. Assignments include retrieving data via standard API calls and from /proc;process management, including fork, wait and system;building a microshell with fork/exec and pipe/dup;semaphore handling;and building an OS simulator. We have rewritten these assignments to provide additional practice with data type conversion, pointers and memory management, file handling, classes and subclasses, and the use of vectors, maps and other data structures in the STL.

The Fuzzy-neural development system is presented in two versions. The First version is the implementation in c, c++ with interface to Matlab or other programs using DLL calling. The second implementation is newer, conform to Referential transparency. For implementation we choose functional programing language Scheme. The Scheme version R5RS is adopted on different platforms like Pc, microprocessors and FPGAs. This allows easy transfer of Scheme code on mentioned platforms. There is presented short programming example of Takagi Sugeno Kang fuzzy rule based model in form of the Fuzzy Neural Network. The possible applicatons of the proposed development system are presented.

A new astrometric telescope, Multi-Function Astronomical Transit, has been built in Yunnan Astronomical Observatory. Its main imaging device is a digital ccD camera without refrigeration because the telescope is only used to observe stars brighter than 7.5mag. As an astrometric telescope like the Lower Latitude Meridian circle, some special errors from the horizon and the altitude axis of the telescope must be measured. Thus two analog ccD cameras are used. The digital camera is connected to a digital frame grabber via a camera Link cable and a custom-made cable, while the two analog cameras are connected to an analog frame grabber by two custom-made cables. The two frame grabbers are separately mounted in two image workstations and operate in external trigger mode. Two trigger signals are generated by the telescope control system, one for the digital camera, another for the two analog cameras. The software of image acquisition is programmed using Vc++ and Sapera LT. This paper presents an imaging system solution for the new transit, programming methods and the test observation results.
