A method involving the use of a primary standard source of synchrotron radiation for precision calibration of the sensitivity of telescopes equipped with a ccd array and high angular resolution is considered. The method is based on precision reproduction of the spectral energy characteristics, the Gaussian distribution of the spectral density of the irradiance over a radiating region, and the stability and reproducibility of the characteristics of synchrotron radiation in a single-electron regime.

The performance of miniature ccd array spectroradiometers, which are widely used for the assessment of personal and environmental exposures, may be affected by variations in ambient temperature. The dark signal, spectral sensitivity and wavelength position of six different array spectroradiometer models, produced by two different manufacturers, were assessed in ambient temperatures ranging from 5 degrees C to 40 degrees C. The results are presented with a discussion of the practical implications for field measurements when the instruments are used outside of a temperature controlled environment.

Diffuse Optical Breast Scanner (DOB-Scan) probe utilizes a linear charge-coupled device (ccd) array as the detector, measuring back-scattered light intensity above the breast tissue to create cross-sectional concentration images for different constituents. The response received at each pixel of the sensor is determined by optical properties of the scattering medium, source-detector distance, integration time of ccd array, and intensity of the light source. However, the performance of the probe is limited by the inherent electronic properties of ccd array, which cause saturation at high response region and high noise level at low response region. In this paper, an algorithm to enhance the dynamic range of the ccd array is presented. The objective is to maximize the dynamic range of the ccd array without any data loss while minimizing the noise-to-signal ratio where the response of the ccd array is relatively low. The desired output can be achieved by capturing multiple sets of data with different integration time and light intensity settings, ensuring the best ccd performance in each pixel range of interest. The profile of ccd array's linearity and optical power measurement of the light source allow different sets of data to be translated into the same scale and joined accordingly into one. A series of phantom studies are conducted and confirm the feasibility of the probe's dynamic range intensification.

A source of synchrotron radiation serving as a primary standard radiation source with broad range of energy tuning and number of accelerated electrons, the use of which provides new resources for the development of fundamental and applied spectroradiography, is considered. Results of a comparison of the spectral density of irradiance by means of this source serve as the basis for the development of a method of determining the effective temperature of sources of thermal radiation. A comparator that comprises a double monochromator with cooled ccd array by means of which signals in a broad dynamic range may be detected with a high degree of precision together with a determination of a dependence of the effective temperature on the source current is described.

We describe methods and instrumentation that we have developed for measuring the radiance distribution over the emitting region of plasma emitters in the extreme vacuum ultraviolet region. The radiance comparator for vacuum and near ultraviolet radiation includes a reflecting telescope based on highly reflective nanostructures, a set of filters to eliminate the effect of scattered light and higher orders of diffraction, and a cooled ccd array.

Recording of a sequence of thermal-radiation spectra allows determination of a nonstationary temperature T(t) without using the data on the emissivity of an object. For a DeDDcurrency sign-4.5 silicon single crystal heated with radiation from a continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser (lambda = 1.064 mu m), sequences of hundreds of emission spectra in wavelength ranges of lambda = 350-760 nm and lambda = 650-1000 nm were recorded at a signal storage time of a ccd array of tau = 15-35 ms and a frequency of recording spectra of f a parts per thousand 30-66 Hz. The spectra were automatically processed, and the dependences of the crystal temperature on the time after the irradiation onset were obtained in the range T a parts per thousand 1100-1450 K.
