Empowering Digital Innovation by Diverse Leadership in ICT – A Roadmap to a Better Value System in computer algorithms

Diverse leadership in information and communication technology (ICT) can be defined as an approach to empower digital innovation. Digital innovation is a key driver of digital and business transformation. This process demands human transformation to complement business transformation in order to achieve long term sustainability. Changing the culture, fostering an inclusive mindset and guaranteeing diversity are challenging yet foundational elements in building a legacy and require inclusive digital ethics leadership. Our society needs to undergo disruptive and transformative changes in order to adapt to exponential technological advances in the educational, professional, cultural and governance fields. The digital era holds great potential for increased inclusion, reduction or even closure of the „Gender Leadership Gap “in all industries, especially in the Construction and IT industry, Research and Development sectors, as well as in Academia where women are still underrepresented. This article analyzes how diverse leadership in ICT is a moral imperative for our society, emphasizes the need to recalibrate and reshape our approach and highlights the benefits of leveraging women’s potential in the social, digital and business transformation arenas. This article aims to fill an ‘ethical vacuum’ brought to light by the emerging technologies` revolution, focuses on both ethical and data governance aspects in digital innovation and offers approaches to answer how diverse leadership can contribute towards avoiding gender bias, optimizing inclusion and further improve crucial digital ethics aspects in data-driven technologies - such as algorithmic bias, fairness, transparency in AI. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Automated generators of examples and problems for studying computer algorithms A study on students' decisions

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate students' decisions in example-based instruction within a novel self-regulated learning context. The novelty was the use of automated generators of worked examples and problem-solving exercises instead of a few handcrafted ones. According to the cognitive load theory, when students are in control of their learning, they demonstrate different preferences in selecting worked examples or problem solving exercises for maximizing their learning. An unlimited supply of examples and exercises, however, offers unprecedented degree of flexibility that should alter the decisions of students in scheduling the instruction. Design/methodology/approach ASolver, an online learning environment augmented with such generators for studying computer algorithms in an operating systems course, was developed as the experimental platform. Students' decisions related to choosing worked examples or problem-solving exercises were logged and analyzed. Findings Results show that students had a tendency to attempt many exercises and examples, especially when performance measurement events were impending. Strong students had greater appetite for both exercises and examples than weak students, and they were found to be more adventurous and less bothered by scaffolding. On the other hand, weak students were found to be more timid or unmotivated. They need support in the form of procedural scaffolding to guide the learning. Originality/value This study was one of the first to introduce automated example generators for studying an operating systems course and investigate students' behaviors in such learning environments.

Qualitative investigation of a gene model using computer algebra algorithms

Using algorithms and packages for computer algebra, we investigate a three-dimensional autonomous system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) used in [1] to simulate the dynamics of a gene. A computational approach based on elimination theory algorithms is proposed to find invariant surfaces of multidimensional polynomial differential equation systems;this approach allows one to reduce the investigation of the system dynamics to studying the dynamics of a lower-order system. In addition, an effective approach based on the Lyapunov function is proposed to investigate the Andronov-Hopf bifurcation;this approach is used to find such bifurcations in the model under study.

The enhancement of volleyball players' tactical proficiency has emerged as a focal point of research. Addressing this, this paper proposes a swift trajectory tracking method for volleyball's front spike by utilizing the YOLOv5 algorithm. The process initiates with the establishment of a comprehensive model designed to gather detailed image data of the front spike. The gathered color images are then converted to grayscale to simplify the image processing tasks by reducing visual data complexity. Following this, histogram equalization is applied to enhance image contrast, thereby making key features more distinguishable and facilitating the detection of the volleyball's edges and contours. Subsequently, contour detection is performed to identify the edges of the front spike, and corner detection is executed on adjacent frames to track points where there is a sudden change in direction, crucial for monitoring the volleyball's movement. The YOLOv5 algorithm is employed to optimize these corners, significantly enhancing the accuracy and speed of trajectory tracking. Experimental results validate the method's efficacy, demonstrating that it captures the front spike image comprehensively. Post-histogram enhancement, the signal-to-noise ratio peaks, resulting in clearer and more defined image quality, which is essential for accurate feature extraction and trajectory tracking. The extracted features of the volleyball edge contour are more exhaustive and detailed, leading to a marked improvement in trajectory tracking accuracy. Overall, the proposed method effectively leverages the strengths of the YOLOv5 algorithm and advanced image processing techniques, providing a robust system capable of delivering precise tracking data necessary for high-level performance analysis and strategic planning in volleyball.

SPARC: Structural properties associated with residue constraints

SPARC facilitates the generation of plausible hypotheses regarding underlying biochemical mechanisms by structurally characterizing protein sequence constraints. Such constraints appear as residues co conserved in functionally related subgroups, as subtle pairwise correlations (i.e., direct couplings), and as correlations among these sequence features or with structural features. SPARC performs three types of analyses. First, based on pairwise sequence correlations, it estimates the biological relevance of alternative conformations and of homomeric contacts, as illustrated here for death domains. Second, it estimates the statistical significance of the correspondence between directly coupled residue pairs and interactions at heterodimeric interfaces. Third, given molecular dynamics simulated structures, it characterizes interactions among constrained residues or between such residues and ligands that: (a) are stably maintained during the simulation;(b) undergo correlated formation and/or disruption of interactions with other constrained residues;or (c) switch between alternative interactions. We illustrate this for two homohexameric complexes: the bacterial enhancer binding protein (bEBP) NtrC1, which activates transcription by remodeling RNA polymerase (RNAP) containing r54, and for DnaB helicase, which opens DNA at the bacterial replication fork. Based on the NtrC1 analysis, we hypothesize possible mechanisms for inhibiting ATP hydrolysis until ADP is released from an adjacent subunit and for coupling ATP hydrolysis to restructuring of sigma(54) binding loops. Based on the DnaB analysis, we hypothesize that DnaB 'grabs' ssDNA by flipping every fourth base and inserting it into cavities between subunits and that flipping of a DnaB-specific glutamine residue triggers ATP hydrolysis. Optimizing the element of job matching and its efficiency remains fundamental in the labor market. To this effect, a novel employment data information system algorithm remains a widely used approach in optimizing the process, through the leveraging of machine learning models and advanced data analytics. The use of such an algorithm focuses on a set of factors that include precise process of matching, continuous learning, and dynamic adaptability. The algorithm primarily relies on natural language processing (NLP) in understanding resumes and job descriptions beyond the mere use of keyword matching. The process widely takes consideration of semantic and context in ensuring that accurate fits are determined. In the evaluation of experiences, qualifications, and skills, a matched candidate to different roles is determined through the system. This therefore justifies the systems efficiency in dynamically adapting and ensuring that responsive measures are provided to the changing dynamics within the job market. algorithms are established to provide regular updates continuously through a parameter that relies on real-time data examining the job market. The nature of such adaptability provides an up-to date and timely recommendations to job seekers and employers. This article therefore seeks to conduct an examination on the optimizing of job matching efficiency through a novel employment of information system algorithms. According to findings, information system algorithms play a critical role in refining predictive over time, a process that improves the accuracy of the job matching process and its reliability. © 2024 IEEE.

For anonymous or new users on shopping websites, when their historical interaction information is unknown, a model can be established based on the user's historical behavior sequence data to mine their long-term interests and short-term preferences, and predict the items that the user may click on in the future. Then, based on the shopping sequence, this paper recommends a collection of items to purchase next. Inspired by the graph neural network, this network is used to establish a connection model between shopping items. This method can capture the transformation relationship between items and obtain the correlation between nodes and their neighboring nodes in the conversation graph. Through this approach, noise interference from unrelated neighboring nodes can be reduced and recommendation performance can be effectively improved. In order to establish a short-term interest model for users, a fixed size mobile window was designed to integrate the user preferences of the last few consecutive shopping baskets. By using a recurrent neural network, we fuse the basket representation, global, and short-term user shopping preferences to obtain the final recommendation result. The experimental results on two public datasets show that the algorithm can effectively improve the recommendation accuracy of the next shopping basket. © 2023 IEEE.

Computational algorithms for Representing Aircraft Instruments with Barometric Physics (Numerical Methods Applied to Flight Simulation)

The present work describes the development of a graphical environment to represent typical flight instruments on a computer screen. The instruments' behavior is displayed according to information regarding the aircraft's flight conditions. Some of the instruments represented in this work, such as the altimeter, the vertical speed indicator, the aircraft speed indicator, and the Mach indicator, use air pressure principles. The algorithms and routines developed for the screen display are created using the C++ programming language and compiled independently to be included as libraries to improve the software performance. The algorithms developed for this purpose also include the corresponding relationship between the physical variables, such as the speed and displacement, and the standard atmosphere to provide an equivalent value. These algorithms are successfully tested using data information to simulate three hypothetical flights, which are divided into maneuvers with the aircraft in a stopped position, running on the ground, taking off and flying away, including some changes in directions. Moreover, the routines for displaying the aircraft path with the instruments' animation are also successfully tested by comparison. Finally, an approach analysis as a function of the step time (Delta t) used for calculation of the aircraft displacement to evaluate the efficiency of the numerical method integrated in the simulator is also described. It is proved that the aircraft instrument representation is appropriate according to the input data of the analyzed flights, and an improvement in the calculation can be easily obtained, making it possible to represent any flight condition on the aircraft instruments.
