In wind farms, wake interaction leads to losses in power capture and accelerated structural degradation when compared to freestanding turbines. One method to reduce wake losses is by misaligning the rotor with the incoming flow using its yaw actuator, thereby laterally deflecting the wake away from downstream turbines. However, this demands an accurate and computationally tractable model of the wind farm dynamics. This problem calls for a closed-loop solution. This tutorial paper fills the scientific gap by demonstrating the full closed-loop controller synthesis cycle using a steady-state surrogate model. Furthermore, a novel, computationally efficient and modular communication interface is presented that enables researchers to straight-forwardly test their control algorithms in large-eddy simulations. High-fidelity simulations of a 9-turbine farm show a power production increase of up to 11% using the proposed closed-loop controller compared to traditional, greedy wind farm operation.

The hybrid combination of photovoltaic (PV) panels and energy storage systems (ESS) has become popular in PV power plants (PVPPs), in order to comply with new grid codes and standards and provide grid support functionalities. A shaping strategy of the dc-link voltage of the PVPP, the same as the voltage reference of the grid-connected inverter, is proposed in this paper. The main contribution of the proposed control algorithm is to simultaneously achieve several control aspects, i.e., a) shaping the dc-link voltage same as the required voltage reference and reduces the inverter switching, which reduces the switching losses, b) smoothing the injected power to the grid thanks to the ESS, and c) Improving the harmonic performance of the grid-connected inverter that reduces the size of the grid-connection filter. The performance of the proposed control algorithm is verified on a hybrid PV-ESS simulation platform under various operational conditions and results are compared with the conventional solutions.

This paper presents a control algorithm for the autonomous landing of a fixed-wing aircraft. In the proposed approach, the classical PID control technique is augmented with a state-dependent coefficient (SDC) nonlinear model inversion. The SDC-based nonlinear model inversion eliminates the need for a linearization of the aircraft dynamics. The control law provides accurate autonomous landing in adverse atmospheric conditions such as crosswind and turbulence. The effectiveness is demonstrated for autonomous descent, flare, touch down, as well as crab and de-crab maneuvers for the Cessna 172 aircraft simulation model.

A new edition of a graduate-level machine learning textbook that focuses on the analysis and theory of algorithms. This book is a general introduction to machine learning that can serve as a textbook for graduate students and a reference for researchers. It covers fundamental modern topics in machine learning while providing the theoretical basis and conceptual tools needed for the discussion and justification of algorithms. It also describes several key aspects of the application of these algorithms. The authors aim to present novel theoretical tools and concepts while giving concise proofs even for relatively advanced topics. Foundations of Machine Learning is unique in its focus on the analysis and theory of algorithms. The first four chapters lay the theoretical foundation for what follows; subsequent chapters are mostly self-contained. Temperature field control system of the autonomous object of support structure with the information-measuring system is introduced. To compensate the thermal deformation of the structure due to the temperature field irregularity, caused by heating of information-measuring system elements, the control algorithm has been proposed for controlled heat-sources which are specially placed on the structure. The simulation in program software environment ANSYS shows high efficiency of the presented algorithm and management system.

A modulation and control of grid connected quasi Z-source Inverter (qZSI) in closed loop for solar photovoltaic system is proposed in this paper. The detailed average and small-signal modeling is obtained for qZSI, derived from Z-source inverter is investigated for operation in solar photovoltaic system. The boundaries for continuous conduction and discontinuous conduction modes of the qZSI network are identified and made to work in continuous conduction mode only. The mathematical modeling is done using average state-space modeling for its closed loop control. The MATLAB/SIMULINK model is developed and is tested for the developed control algorithm.

In applications where heavy metal welding is performed, the short circuit welding current is very high. During these conditions, manual welding is difficult. Hence, using an automated welding system enhances the productivity and quality of welds, thus reducing dependency on skilled work force. In this manuscript one such mechanism of DC welding, where the welding electrode is automated with a voltage control algorithm is discussed. This algorithm is implemented by sensing the voltage across the electrodes and controls the welding action based on the logic implemented. Implementation of this automated system ensures, monitored time of contact between the job and electrode.

There is a trend to increase processor performance with high thermal design power consumption. Transient temperature changes from low to high power induces overshoot in temperature, generating thermal events; however, thermal solution is capable of cooling in steady state condition. This effect asserts throttling mechanism during transient state while showing temperature and power spikes. Identifying the magnitude of the overshoot in the transition from one state to another, and modifying the existing control algorithm to minimize offsets in temperature target can be key to avoid exceeding the critical temperature. The proposal is that this overshoot would be identified and remediated at initial phases of system development to mitigate any potential complaint from *** work is focused on the transient behavior situation that induces overshoot in temperature, identify cases of unavoidable over temperature for a given cooling solution and fan speed control considerations to minimize this adverse condition. We present a new approach to identify the initial and final states to understand the residual energy the heatsink needs to dissipate. The hypothesis presented illustrates the theory behind this phenomena to reach the final isothermal temperature distribution when high power and high airflow are required.

We study the problem of enforcing spatial and temporal (spatiotemporal) constraints in control of multiagent systems with uncertainties. We present a new distributed control algorithm for achieving both i) a user-defined system performance by limiting the worst-case difference between the agent state trajectories and their corresponding reference state trajectories (spatial constraint) and ii) a user-defined finite-time convergence (temporal constraint). Specifically, the presented algorithm effectively addresses these spatiotemporal constraints without the need for a strict knowledge of agent uncertainties upper bounds and without relying on agent initial conditions. The efficacy of the proposed distributed control algorithm is further illustrated in a numerical example.

The work focuses on the study of control systems of objects with positive feedback (recycle). The classification of objects with different types of recycle was proposed: objects with recycle "by concentration", objects with recycle "by mass", objects with recycle "by parameters". The control algorithms of these types of objects with positive feedback were developed. The numerical studies of control systems of objects with positive feedback were conducted. Conclusions about the effectiveness of development were formulated.
