The paper presents video surveillance-based tracking system for the outdoor environment. The video processing has been done using both LabVIEW and MATLAB, and the comparisons are illustrated. In LabVIEW, self-learning and real-time moving object tracking are implemented for the surveillance of environment. In a two-dimensional color pattern matching, a self-learned template has to be located on real-time video, regardless of the template's position, color, and shape. It is done by organizing a set of feature vectors that encompass all the variations in the self-learned template. Matching is then done by determining the best similarity between the feature vectors extracted from the video image and the self-learned template set. Template learning time and elapsed time are taken as parameters for the comparison. In MATLAB, tracking is achieved using camshift algorithm. The feature vectors include position, orientation, and size of the object to be tracked.

In this work we study the methods for pedestrian tracking in video sequences and indicate various applications of these methods ranging from surveillance systems to aiding the visually impaired persons. First, we define the general problem of object tracking that comprises the tasks of object detection, identifying the flow of object location in consecutive video images and finally analysis of the tracked trajectory data. We review the well known object tracking techniques i. e. the Mean-Shift and the camshift algorithm and discuss their properties. Then we introduce the computational technique known as particle filtering (PF) and explain how we have applied it to the tasks of pedestrian tracking. We compare the PF approach against the Mean-Shift and the camshift algorithms in terms of tracking robustness and the required computational demand. We conclude, that on the tested video sequences, the PF tracker outperforms the Mean-Shift and by a small margin the camshift algorithm. The PF tracker requires more computational power, however, its tracking performance can be flexibly adjusted to the application requirements.

In this paper, a system combining mixture of Gaussian background model and camshift algorithm has been designed to detect and track automatically the moving target. For detecting the moving object, the region which the movement object belongs to is firstly identified and extracted by mixture model of Gaussian, and the centroid of this region is determined as the center of initializing window for tracking. The color feature of object is then extracted in the region, and the camshift algorithm is used to calculate t he exact location of the target and adjust the size of search window. During the tracking, the information about the objective location is transmitted by serial communication to control the PTZ in order to track the object to ensure it being inside of scene all along. The experiment is performed with high speed spherical camera E588/G3-HP and validates the validity of the system.

The task of reliably detecting and tracking the moving objects in surveillance video forms a basis for higher level intelligence applications. This project aim is to develop the Hardware and to implement an object tracking algorithm. The tracking technique uses camshift algorithm to detect moving objects and generate reliable tracks from real-time surveillance video. In mean shift algorithm there are many limitations and one of the most important is that the window remains the same size when object is farther away or very close to camera, so it is necessary to adapt the window size with target size and rotation. The solution for this problem is Continuously Adaptive Mean shift algorithm. It applies mean shift first, once mean shift converges it updates the size of the window. It also calculates the orientation of best fitting ellipse to it. Again it applies the mean shift with new scaled search window and previous window location. Window adaptation keeps continuing throughout of Tracking. This Tracking technique is implemented in arduino hardware with Pan-Tilt mechanism. Raspberry Pi is also used to implement camshift algorithm here. Raspberry Pi is widely used for video processing and it is fit for UAV related surveillance applications as it has less weight with more functionality for video processing. Pan-Tilt mechanism is made by using two servo motors. Here, Pan-Tilt mechanism is used for real-time tracking of the target. For UAV application, overall communication for real-time tracking is also taken care by Raspberry Pi.

Considering the problem of added background interference when initial target region is chose in camshift tracking algorithm. This paper proposes a human tracking algorithm based on improved camshift. The algorithm uses weight to determine the type of pixels in the back-projection, and then convert the back-projection into binary image, so as to improve the input accuracy of camshift processing function. According to the human body size information, the algorithm appropriately improves the ratio of major axis and minor axis of search window, to optimize the output size of camshift processing function. The contrast experiment proves the algorithm obviously improve accuracy and robustness of tracking effect.

In this paper, we present an approach for tracking an object in video captured on a mobile device. We use a colour-based approach. The performance of many of these approaches degrades due to lighting changes and occlusion. To address the issue of lightning changes, our approach makes use of colour histogram that is generated by accumulating histograms derived from target objects imaged under different conditions. A camshift tracking algorithm is applied to the back-projected image to track the target object. We have tested our approach by tracking an Emergency Exit sign and the results obtained show that the tracking is robust against lightning changes.

In this paper, we present a vision based tracking scheme to capture kinematic data of two laparoscopic tools in a surgical trainer or simulator. camshift algorithm along with Kalman filter is used for occlusion-free tracking of multiple markers attached to the tools. Tracking of the markers in 3D is achieved, using a single stationary camera, by tracking variations in the size of the markers in the image. This 3D marker position data is used to determine the pose of the tools. A camera rig capable of handling multiple cameras is built for validating the proposed tracking system. Experiments were performed to characterize the errors in tool pose, and estimated marker locations. Results indicate that the proposed scheme can be employed in a box trainer or simulator to track tool movements with sub-cm accuracy. Such tool movement data can be further used for surgical skill assessment, or for providing feedback to the trainee/surgeon during the procedure. Provided independent measurements of the camera movements are available, this method can also be used to track tool movements when the camera is not fixed.

This paper describes an efficient approach for irregular moving object detecting and tracking in real-time system based on color and shape information of the target object from realistic environment. Firstly, the data is gotten from a real-time camera system at a stable frame rate. And then, each frame is processed by using proposed method to detect and track the target object immediately in consecutive frames. Finally, the target position based modifying controlling signal is used to control pan-tilt-zoom camera (PTZ camera) in order to automatically follow the target object. Our experiment results were obtained by using pan-tilt-zoom camera Sony EVI D70 under variety environments in real-time and our algorithm is verified that it can be implemented effectively and accurately at high frame speed, even 29.97 fps.

Recently, a minimally invasive surgery (MIS) called fetoscopic tracheal occlusion (FETO) was developed to treat severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) via fetoscopy, by which a detachable balloon is placed into the fetal trachea for preventing pulmonary hypoplasia through increasing the pressure of the chest cavity. This surgery is so dangerous that a supporting system for navigating surgeries is deemed necessary. In this paper, to guide a surgical tool to be inserted into the fetal trachea, an automatic approach is proposed to detect and track the fetal face and mouth via fetoscopic video sequencing. More specifically, the AdaBoost algorithm is utilized as a classifier to detect the fetal face based on Haar-like features, which calculate the difference between the sums of the pixel intensities in each adjacent region at a specific location in a detection window. Then, the camshift algorithm based on an iterative search in a color histogram is applied to track the fetal face, and the fetal mouth is fitted by an ellipse detected via an improved iterative randomized Hough transform approach. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed automatic approach can accurately detect and track the fetal face and mouth in real-time in a fetoscopic video sequence, as well as provide an effective and timely feedback to the robot control system of the surgical tool for FETO surgeries.

This paper proposes a novel system for people counting based on face detection and tracking. Through the real time processing of video image gotten from monitor devices, the system detect the faces and combine with set people counting area to realize automatic people counting. In this system, firstly we set face tracking area and people counting area, then use AdaBoost and skin color character algorithm to detect faces and use camshift algorithm to track them, at last count people when the center point of tracking section passes the people counting area. Experiment result demonstrates this system has relatively high efficiency and accuracy.
