We propose a new algorithm for detection of manholes and joints in a sewer pipe system based on image information. In this system we use a specially designed sewer inspection robot to capture images from inside the pipe. These images are divided into two rectangular regions of interest (ROI), to each of which the canny algorithm is applied for edge detection. Next, we define a feature vector for the detected edge in each ROI. Finally, the feature points and the distance between the robot and each feature point are provided by comparing the feature vector with the corresponding ROI feature vector obtained by field test using KANTARO. The methodology is evaluated using the real image data captured by the robot with a camera and other sensors.

Automatic recognition of lung system is use to identify normal and covid infected lungs from chest X-ray images of the people. In the year 2020, the coronavirus forcefully pushed the entire world into a freakish situation, the foremost challenge is to diagnosis the coronavirus. We have got standard diagnosis test called PCR test which is complex and costlier to check the patient's sample at initial stage. Keeping this in mind, we developed a work to recognize the chest X-ray image automatically and label it as Covid or normal lungs. For this work, we collected the dataset from open-source data repository and then pre-process each X-ray images from each category such as covid X-ray images and non-covid X-ray images using various techniques such as filtering, edge detection, segmentation, etc., and then the pre-processed X-ray images are trained using CNN-Resnet18 network. Using PyTorch python package, the resnet-18 network layer is created which gives more accuracy than any other algorithm. From the acquired knowledge the model is correctly classifies the testing X-ray images. Then the performance of the model is calculated and analyzed with various algorithms and hence gives that the resnet-18 network improves our model performance in terms of specificity and sensitivity with more than 90%.Copyright (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Due to tool wear and making errors, calculating the tool path based on the tool theory model has a great deal of influence on the accuracy of surface finishing machining. In order to solve the above problem, a photogrammetry method is used to extract the rotary cutter profile, and then the tool surface is get by letting the fitting profile curve revolves about the cutter axis, finally the cutter contact path is obtained based on the minimal orientation-distance algorithm. Experiments prove the cutter contact path is just on the theory surface of the workpiece. Therefore the accuracy of surface finishing machining will be greatly improved by the method.

The iris, an annulus region where located in the area between the pupil and sclera, its unique texture almost never changes in whole life. Iris location is to locate the effective region and prevent interference with the invalid region. Iris localization is an important part in the Iris recognition system, accuracy and speed of the positioning directly affects the performance of iris recognition system. On the basis of existing analysis on iris recognition algorithms, dividing the positioning process into two steps: the rough positioning and the precise positioning. In the first step, based on gray window, which can reduce the specifically searching range and can avoid the eyelash, eyelids and the disturbance of external spotlight source effectively, etc., we introduce a new method that estimates coarse positioning of pupil center. In the step of fine positioning, based on canny edge detection algorithm and the Hough transform, we introduce an improved algorithm. In the process of Edge extraction, utilizing the feature between internal and outer edges and the Hough transform, we adjust the size of extracted image block, a small image would be fixed the size due to the prior experimental results. Experimental results show that the localization algorithm ensure the accuracy of iris localization while enhancing the localization speed. Effectively overcome the serious influence of eyelids and eyelashes. In conclusion, The Improved Iris Location algorithm is feasible.

Stereo correspondence is one of the most promising research areas in stereo vision. In order to solve the problem that there are large areas of similar gray-scale region and the time-consuming of the dense reconstruction, the contour of stereo pairs was extracted to reconstruct the scene. To reduce the noise which may lead to incorrect results during the stereo matching, a stereo matching algorithm based on the dynamic programming is proposed in the paper. Based on the reasonable and commonly assumption that the disparity of the scene is always smooth, the stereo matching algorithm puts a restraint on the disparity map and applies the dynamic algorithm on the disparity space image (DSI) to obtain the optimal disparity of the contour. Since the sum of points needed to be computed is greatly reduced, the algorithm could implement the stereo correspondence with high speed and matching rate than dense reconstruction could.

Breast lesion segmentation is a critical task in Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) techniques for mammography, the performance of CAD system strongly depends on the results of segmentation. In this paper, we present a simple and robust approach for breast mass segmentation in digital mammograms. The proposed approach consists of three major stages. In the first stage, 2D-median filter is applied for enhancing the quality of image. In the second stage, an initial segmentation is designed based on canny and watershed algorithms;this step allows automating the process of seed point selection. In the final phase, the boundaries of tumor are extracted from Region of Interest (ROI) with high accuracy by using region growing method. The validation process of the proposed approach was achieved based on a set of 27 images from Mini-MIAS database with an average overlap of 81.3 % and the result were compared with some other mammograms segmentation methods. An experimental evaluation of this study shows that the proposed method can reliably be applied on mass segmentation in mammogram images.

The technique of error concealment can estimate the pixel values in a lost block during video transmission and improve the image quality. However, the existing error concealment algorithms have a shortcoming of over-smoothing and lose some image edge information inside the lost block. To overcome this shortcoming, a new error concealment algorithm is proposed in this paper. In this algorithm, it first utilizes the error concealment method in H.264 to make initial concealment. After that, the image is transformed in the Harr wavelet domain to further enhance the edge information. After the reverse wavelet transform, the image is finally enhanced by using anisotropic diffusion. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can well keep the image edge information in the edge concealment, avoiding the problem of over-smooth and edge information losses in the conventional error concealment algorithms.

In order to overcome the low efficiency and precision disadvantages of steel plate position manual correction in the NC(numerical control) Flame Cutting, a high efficient steel plate position correction method is proposed by detecting the edge of steel plate images. Based on the development environment of OpenCV, the video of steel plate is captured based on the Direct Show Technology and the edge linear equation of steel plate is obtained by detecting the steel plate image edge with canny algorithm and the angle between the equation and the x axis is obtained. The steel plate correction algorithm is designed, and based on the deviation angle of the steel plate, and rotation transformation of related processing images, the steel plate corrections is conducted automatically. The experimental testing of steel plate correction is done and the results show that the method can well done the steel plate correction and the error lower than 0.3 degree and can satisfy the flame cutting process requirement and have a great theory and economic value.

Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is a computational photography technology that can enhance the legibility and the fine details of the sample. Colorless trace is a special kind of trace with shallow depth and its grayscale is similar to the background. It is difficult to perceive details of these traces by traditional observation and detection methods. In this paper, we propose some improved detection methods which combine RTI with the canny algorithm to get more details of colorless trace. The threshold is one of the key factors which affect the performance of the canny algorithm so we put forward a threshold selection method based on the gradient histogram of the image. Three detection methods that combine RTI with the improved canny algorithm are proposed in this paper. The experimental results show that these detection methods can extract weak and colorless traces effectively, and would have great potential application in criminal investigation.
