We present a fast, simple, sub-pixel algorithm on the critical angle refractometer to measure the refractive index of the liquid sample by determining the centroid of the light intensity of the relative reflective curve. The centroid algorithm utilizes a divergent fiber-coupled royal blue LED source to irradiate on the dielectric surface between the prism and the media, which generates the light intensity distribution of the reflectance facula. Instead of the critical angle pixel as the differential algorithm and the threshold algorithm, the sub pixel centroid algorithm is based on calculating the centroid value of the light intensity of the relative reflective curve. In some moderate turbid solutions, the centroid algorithm is less sensitive to the scattering and absorption than the differential algorithm and the threshold algorithm. It is possible to utilize the centroid point of the relative reflective curve to determine the refractive index. Supported by the theoretical analysis and experimental results on saline solutions, we can conclude that the proposed algorithm is effective to get the super resolution and meaningful to the refractive index measurement of the liquid. The critical angle refractometer with this centroid method is potential to be a high-accuracy, high-resolution, and reliable automatic refractometer.

A squared gray weighted centroid algorithm based on bi-cubic interpolation is proposed to solve the question of the optical feature precision location in the vision measurement. The location method makes full use of the gray information of feature image and uses the squared gray as weight to increase the function of pixels with higher gray value. At the same time, the bi-cubic interpolation algorithm is used to increase the available pixels to improve the location accuracy. Experimental results show that the location repeatability was less than 0.011 pixels and the location errors were less than 0.01 pixels. The centroid location method has better location accuracy and could be used for the precision location of optical feature for the vision measurement.

According to the symmetry distribution and high gray value of the object region, squared weight method and linear interpolation are used to enhance the effect of object region. Meanwhile, linear interpolation and iteration algorithm are utilized to improve the resolution and accuracy on signal segmentation. The simulation result shows that it is more accurate and stable than other sub-pixel algorithm, and the satisfying result is obtained.

Satellite devices for fine attitude control of the Science & Technology Satellite-2 (STSAT-2). Based on the mission requirements of STSAT-2, the conventional analog-type sun sensors were found to be inadequate, motivating the development of a compact, fast and fine digital sun sensor (FDSS). The FDSS uses a CMOS image sensor and has an accuracy of less than 0.03degrees, an update rate of 5Hz and a weight of less than 800g. A pinhole-type aperture is substituted for the optical lens to minimize its weight. The target process speed is obtained by utilizing the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), which acquires images from the CMOS sensor, and stores and processes the image data. The sensor accuracy is maintained by a rigorous centroid algorithm. This paper describes the FDSS designs, realizations, tests and calibration results.

In this paper, we analyze the accuracy of indoor localization measurement based on a wireless sensor network. The position estimation procedure is based on the received-signal-strength measurements collected in a real indoor environment. Two different classes of low-computational-effort algorithms based on the centroid concept are considered, i.e., the weighted centroid localization method and the relative-span exponential weighted localization method. In particular, different sources of measurement uncertainty are analyzed by means of theoretical simulations and experimental results.
