In the multiuser detection (MUD) techniques, one of the most difficult problems is how to reduce the computational complexity and then improve the performance of the system. In this paper, based on the space-time CDMA system, we apply the method of the steepest descent with the noisy gradient to the multiuser detection of the system. In the multiuser detection algorithm, we change the conventional fixed step-size iterations into the time-varying step-size iterations with the noisy gradient. Simulations show that the algorithm of the multiuser detection can converge rapidly and guarantee that space-time CDMA system gets the better performance at the same time.

This paper presents a novel adaptive harmonic detecting algorithm. For step change of load current, it can reduce the filter transient period to less than one fundamental cycle without affecting steady-state accuracy, and additional calculation is very little. The algorithm based on the analysis of transient behavior of adaptive weighting factors. It is proven that the expectation of weighting values converge exponentially with fixed time constant during transient period. The time constant is independent of system frequency and load current. So the steady-state weighting values can be estimated from the initiative variety of exponential curve. Simulation results verified theoretical analysis.

In this paper, a novel rate control algorithm suitable for realtime video encoding is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses mean absolute error (MAE) results of motion estimation (ME) to achieve bitrate control. Neither pre-analysis nor multi-pass encoding is required in our algorithm, which makes realtime hardware implementation possible. A new hardware oriented scene change detection method is also included in this rate control framework to achieve better video quality. Experiment shows our rate control algorithm behaves well in all situations. Hardware architecture for this algorithm is also described. Implementation shows our proposed algorithm can be efficiently integrated into low cost, high efficiency video encoder.

Projected interfaces are gaining popularity as a means of access to information anywhere in a space without the need for special devices or monitors. In this context, it is of particular interest to automatically steer the projected interface to appropriate surfaces based on the location of the user in the space. This requires the users be tracked precisely, and in real time, as they move about in the environment, in spite of continuously varying and moving projected imagery in the background. This is challenging as the projection regions also appear as foreground. This paper presents a geometric image masking technique that separately segments out regions corresponding to the user and projected imagery in multiple camera views, and enables precise three-dimensional tracking of the user.

This paper addresses the problem of blind start-up scheme to the decision-directed MMSE algorithm for CDMA receivers. A new blind start-up scheme is proposed. It is based on a new code-aided blind algorithm that adopts an approximate MSINR criterion. Furthermore, it is capable of utilizing the detected data symbols of the users that previously entered the net and have switched to the normal data transmission stage. Analyses and simulation studies show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves the detection performance and capacity as comparing to the existing algorithms, and, if further utilizing these detected data symbols, is comparable in performance to the BMMSE algorithm with known channel.

This paper proposes a novel fast scheme to deal with multiple motion video, which contains more than one different motion objects. change detection methods are employed under some essential prior knowledge, and the computing complexity is low. Experimental results show that the presented algorithm performs well for the multiple motion video, efficiently and effectively.

In this paper, we present a method of segmenting video to detect cuts with accuracy equal to or better than both histogram and other feature based methods. As well, the method is faster than other feature based methods. By utilizing feature tracking on corners, rather than lines, we are able to reliably detect features such as cuts, fades and salient frames. Experimental evidence shows that the method is able to withstand high motion situations better than existing methods. Initial implementations using full sized video frames are able to achieve processing rates of 10-30 frames per second depending on the level of motion and number of features being tracked; this includes the time to generate the MPEG decompressed frames.

This work investigates the potential of an unsupervised network classifier, the Centroid Neural Network (CNN), for land cover change detection in remotely sensed images. Experiments carried out to evaluate the algorithm include change detection in both approaches: pre-classification and post-classification. Results confirm the effectiveness of this technique.

Automatic video scene change detection is a challenging task. Using audio or visual information alone often cannot provide a satisfactory solution. However, how to combine audio and visual information efficiently still remains a difficult issue since there are various cases in their relationship due to the versatility of videos. We present an effective scene change detection method that adopts the joint evaluation of the audio and visual features. First, video information is used to find the shot boundaries. Second, the audio features for each video shot can be extracted. Lastly, an audio-video combination schema is proposed to detect the video scene boundaries.

Real-time applications such as Voice over IP, audio and video streaming require Quality of Service (QoS). Such applications are being executed over the public Internet. Since today's Internet largely supports best effort traffic, QoS routing in the best effort environment is required to support real-time applications. Some QoS routing use source routing and others use flooding of some QoS attibutes of the nodes. There were also some variants of shortest path algorithm reported in the literature. But those algorithms require changes to packet forwarding engine and logic for loop detection. We believe a better way of implementing QoS routing is to localize the QoS routing changes to the region where QoS has deteriorated and choose loop-free alternate paths. We present such an algorithm based on OSPF called LSR algorithm. In LSR algorithm, congestion notification is limited to neighbors of the congested node and the neighbors try to use alternate next hops to route packets. Alternate LSR next hop is chosen in such a way that it preserves the next hop property of OSPF routing which enables LSR algorithm to avoid loop. We present three such methods to choose an alternate LSR next hop and prove that these methods provide loop free routing. Our simulation results based on the three methods show that on an average LSR algorithm performs better than OSPF algorithm in terms of delay and jitter.
