We propose several improved error concealment (EC) algorithms based on the H.264/AVC non-normative decoder. The major differences are that motion compensated EC is introduced for intra frames, whereas spatial EC is introduced for inter frames. As for the EC of intra frames, scene change detection, motion activity detection and MV retrieval are hierarchically performed to decide whether spatial or temporal information is to be used. As for the EC of inter frames, scene change is also detected to avoid merging the scenes from different video shots. Therefore, the main idea of the proposed algorithms is that both spatial and temporal correlations are utilized for the EC of intra and inter frames. Both subjective and objective simulations under Internet conditions show that the proposed algorithm greatly outperforms that in the H.264/AVC non-normative decoder.

We propose a multivariate trending for aircraft fault detection. Multivariate trending generate fault indicators using output sensor data, is one of black-box approach. We use convex polygon for the computation of a rough shape or extent of the normal data set. Quickhull algorithm is used for the hull finding because it is simpler and uses less memory. It is assumed that the normal data points are in general position, so that their convex hull is a simple complex. We represent a d-dimensional convex hull by its vertices and (d-1)-dimensional faces. From multivariate trend analysis, if we find the measurements have the tendency to leave the convex polygon, this measurement can be labeled as a fault. If a new point is above all hyperplane of the convex hull, it is outside the convex polygon.

The autonomous sciencecraft experiment (ASE), part of the new millennium space technology 6 project, is flying onboard the Earth Orbiter 1 (EO-1) mission. The ASE software enables EO-1 to autonomously detect and respond to science events such as: volcanic activity, flooding, and water freeze/thaw. ASE uses classification algorithms to analyze imagery onboard to detect change and science events. detection of these events is then used to trigger follow-up imagery. Onboard mission planning software then develops a response plan that accounts for target visibility and operations constraints. This plan is then executed using a task execution system that can deal with run-time anomalies. In this paper, we describe the autonomy flight software and how it enables a new paradigm of autonomous science and mission operations. We also describe our approach to testing and validation the ASE software, how we prepared the ASE software for space flight, and the current experiment status and future plans.

The problem of place recognition appears in different mobile robot navigation problems including localization, SLAM, or change detection in dynamic environments. Whereas this problem has been studied intensively in the context of robot vision, relatively few approaches are available for three-dimensional range data. In this paper, we present a novel and robust method for place recognition based on range images. Our algorithm matches a given 3D scan against a database using point features and scores potential transformations by comparing significant points in the scans. A further advantage of our approach is that the features allow for a computation of the relative transformations between scans which is relevant for registration processes. Our approach has been implemented and tested on different 3D data sets obtained outdoors. In several experiments we demonstrate the advantages of our approach also in comparison to existing techniques.

We describe the implementation of a vision algorithm based on matched filtering on an FPGA. detection of a reference image in an input image must be performed in real-time and robustly against occlusion and change of illumination. Vision algorithm based on matched filtering can perform the detection robustly but requires much computation time since it includes 2D FFT/IFFT and polar transform. In this article, we implement the algorithm on an FPGA so that the detection is performed in real-time and robustly.

You may think that while are watching a schema, your eyes move smoothly and continuously to investigate the circuitry, but that is not the case. Your eyes fixate on a part of the circuit hold for a moment then suddenly jump to a new position where a particular visual detail attracts your eyes. During this jump or saccade the eyes move rapidly and we hardly notice that, relative to our eye position, the entire visual world globally shifts. Vision is in some sense turned off during saccades, which is called saccadic suppression. This paper presents a neuromorphic algorithm to detect these spatial-temporal events from the input flow. The algorithm of the saccadic suppression event detection is implemented on the standard cellular nonlinear network universal machine environment. The processing time is roughly one millisecond on the ACE4k CNN-UM chip in the Aladdin environment, and therefore it can serve as a common function in any real-time spatial-temporal algorithm. The saccadic suppression event detector can be used in different areas such as video shot detection or to define the instant when the time-dependent part of the algorithm, e.g. homotopy, has to be initialized.

JJ-FAST is an operational forest early warning system using PALSAR-2/ScanSAR mode data. Its deforestation detection algorithm has been updated since 2016 and the current is version 1 (as of January, 2018) and the algorithm version 2 is preparing to implement in March 2018. Overall user's accuracy of version-1 products was estimated from several field experiments, and achieved as 83.3%. There are omission errors in the version 1 products because of its simple HV change detection approach.

An improvement of a previously proposed frame-synchronous noise compensation algorithm is presented. The previous algorithm used the stochastic matching approach and was designed to cope with time-varying noise. The improved version of this algorithm takes into account the abrupt changes in the acoustical environment. The environment change is detected using the Shewart control charts detection algorithm that searches for the chances in the means of Gaussian sequence. For each noisy environment a specific mismatch function is estimated. A simple bias is used as mismatch function. After detection of environment change, the bias is reinitialized by the value corresponding to the closest noisy environment previously observed. This technique is general since no assumption is made on the nature, level and occurring time of noise. Our algorithm is evaluated on the VODIS database (speech in moving car). All the test sentences were corrupted by an additive noise occurring at the middle of each sentence. This latest version of our algorithm gives significant improvement compared to classical compensation algorithms.

Web warehouse provides high availability and efficiency by utilizing materialized Webviews, which should be refreshed in time to keep freshness. During the refreshing, the consistency between a Webview and its base data, which is formally named single view consistency (abbreviated as SVC), must be guaranteed. Since the base data changes in a Web warehousing environment do not propagate from data sources to the information consumers, which is far different from the case in the traditional data warehouses, we must pursue new maintenance methods. In this paper we first introduce the definition for SVC, and then we present an algorithm RCA to keep SVC as well as an effective base data change detection method SAA. We illustrate that RCA and SAA can guarantee SVC and they are effective in the Web environment

This paper develops optimizations to the Viola-Jones face detection method to make it suitable for use in a Web browser running on a standard laptop or a desktop equipped with a Web cam. In this setting certain assumptions can be made about the number and location of faces to find, and information from a previous frame can help to localize the search. These optimizations lead to an algorithm which performs real-time face detection using a slow scripting language, even on low-end computers. Specifically, we have implemented the algorithm in Adobe Flash (ActionScript 3.0) and our implementation can be deployed via a Web browser without any extra installation.
