In this paper we present an audiovisual tracking algorithm using a stereo audio and cycloptic vision (STAC) sensor. A STAC sensor is composed of a single camera mounted between two microphones. Target localization is performed using color-based change detection in the video modality and on estimation of time difference of arrival (TDOA) between the two microphones in the audio modality. The TDOA is computed by means of a multi-band generalized cross correlation (GCC) analysis. The estimated directions of arrival are then ltered using a Riccati Kalman Iter . The visual and audio estimates are nally integrated, at likelihood level, into a particle Iter that uses a zero-order motion model. We demonstrate that the Kalman ltering improves the accuracy of the audio source localization and sensor fusion with particle ltering under image occlusions. We also demonstrate the proposed audiovisual tracker to generate metadata for very low bitrate teleconferencing.

In this paper a new asynchronously sampled multi-harmonic signal estimation algorithm is proposed. A phase sensitive frequency estimation algorithm is enhanced for harmonically distorted signals. The performance of the algorithm is demonstrated on numerically generated data and on real harmonically distorted sampled signals. The algorithm is stable and accurate as long as the fundamental component amplitude is larger than any amplitude of harmonic components. Noise is a dominant factor in limiting algorithm accuracy.

This paper presents a novel method for reducing a baseball video segment from one batter to next batter into a more compact pitch-by-pitch video by pitching ball trajectory detection. The pitch-by-pitch video shows the complete pitching and batting process and largely reduces the source video data, making pitching analysis of broadcast baseball sequences an easier task. The proposed method has been tested for several long sequences, and promising results are reported.

In this paper we propose a novel methodology of sequential change detection using the minimum description length (MDL)-change statistics. We first introduce the MDL-change statistics as the difference between the code-lengths with change and that without change. We give a theoretical justification for its use in the scenario of hypothesis testing. In it we evaluate the error probabilities for the MDL-change detection to relate them to the information-theoretic complexities of the probabilistic models and their discrepancy measure. We then convert the MDL-change statistics into the sequential change detection algorithm. It is designed to detect gradual changes as well as abrupt changes from big stream data. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by showing that it performs better than existing algorithms for synthetic data. We also show its validity through real problems such as SQL injection detection and failure symptom detection.

In this paper, we present an unsupervised automatic target detection algorithm for multitemporal SAR images. The proposed two-fold method is expected to reduce processing time for large scene sizes with sparse targets while still improving detection performance. Firstly, pixel blocks are extracted from an initial change map to reduce the algorithm's search space and favor target detection. Secondly, an adaptive k-means algorithm selects the number of clusters that better separates targets from false alarms, which are discarded. Preliminary results show the advantages of the proposed method in processing time and detection performance over a recently proposed supervised method for the CARABAS-II dataset.

We develop algorithms for performing total exchange (all-to-all broadcast) in an n-dimensional faulty SIMD hypercube, Q/sub n/, with up to n/spl minus/1 node faults. In an SIMD hypercube, during a communication step, nodes can exchange information with their neighbors only across a specific dimension. We describe a sequence of algorithms which take N log N, N log n, 3N/spl minus/7, 2.5N/spl minus/7 steps for this problem. By carefully analyzing these algorithms and a property of certain ordering of dimensions, we obtain an improved algorithm which takes 2N steps.< >

A comparative study of fast motion detectors for image sequences in a real world scene is presented. We discuss particularly the problem of sensitivity towards the changes of illumination which induce false detections. algorithms are tested with two sequences of grey value images, one containing a real object motion, and a second one which contains changes due to the variation of illumination. A new algorithm of change detection using colour information is introduced. The experimentation showed that this algorithm permits to take into account the illumination component and also reacts satisfactory towards security constraints.< >

Authentication watermarking is the process that inserts hidden data into an object (image) in order to detect any fraudulent alteration perpetrated by a malicious hacker. In the literature, quite a small number of secure authentication methods are available for binary images. This paper proposes a new secure authentication watermarking method for binary images. It can detect any visually significant alteration while maintaining good visual quality. As usual, the security of the algorithm lies on the secrecy of a private-key. Only its owner can insert the correct watermark while anyone may verify the authenticity through the corresponding public-key. A possible application of the proposed technique is in Internet fax transmission, i.e. for legal authentication of documents routed outside the phone network.

This paper proposes a technique for the detection of clearance in mechanical systems under dynamic conditions with specific application to detecting backlash in gear systems of servomechanisms. The technique is based on a momentum transfer analysis that shows that the change in the speed (defined as the bounce) of the primary gear due to impact with the secondary gear is related to the magnitude of the backlash. An algorithm designed to monitor the bounce is developed. It is proposed that the standard bounce, determined by the standard deviation of the demodulated envelope of the speed of the primary gear, is a good measure of the bounce when the system is excited sinusoidally. The algorithm's accuracy and sensitivity are verified through computer simulation of an open loop DC servomechanism. An approximately linear relationship between the standard bounce and the backlash magnitude is observed. The detection technique is accurate, computationally simple, and requires no additional sensors if the servosystem to be monitored already has a conventional tachometer.

A time-sequenced adaptive filter has been developed to predict beats of the intracardiac electrogram (i.e. signals recorded within the heart) for purposes of morphological comparison by implantable devices. After adapting to electrogram morphology during normal sinus rhythm, the filter exhibits an abrupt increase in mean-squared error at the onset of ventricular tachycardia, an abnormal and often life-threatening cardiac rhythm. This marked increase in error can be used to identify the abnormal rhythm and may lead to faster medical treatment than that provided by many existing schemes for arrhythmia detection.< >
