In this paper, we consider the problem of detecting and tracking moving sources emitting wideband signals under the severe spatial aliasing condition in sparse passive arrays. We develop direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm based on subband MUSIC (multiple signal classification) method which produces high-resolution estimation and the fact that true bearings are invariant regardless of a change of frequency bands while the aliased false bearings vary. Despite its simplicity, the proposed algorithm overcomes the aliasing effects and improves the localization performance in sparse passive arrays. Simulation results for multiple target tracking are presented and the robustness algorithm with respect to measurement noise is also demonstrated.

A novel acoustic echo canceller for speakerphone system based upon iterative maximal length correlation (IMLC) algorithm is proposed. This algorithm is robust to double talk because of the nature of the ML sequence; it also iteratively reduces the far-end speech's effects. This simple structure was found to perform very well. We also perform a rigorous convergence analysis and derive the lower bound for the coefficient error. Computer simulations also confirm our theoretical results.

This paper proposes a novel fast scheme to deal with multiple motion video, which contains more than one different motion objects. change detection methods are employed under some essential prior knowledge, and the computing complexity is low. Experimental results show that the presented algorithm performs well for the multiple motion video, efficiently and effectively.

Shot boundary detection is a pre-requisite technique for video indexing and retrieval. To avoid the influence of flashlight on abrupt shot detection, many edge-based techniques are studied thoroughly. However, these techniques are still susceptible to miss and mistake detecting the abrupt changes. Our observation shows that one of the reasons for these errors is the existence of superimposed text which has rich edges and is ever presented in video frames. To provide a solution, we present a novel method that utilizes the edge type, text edge (edge in text area) or non-text-edge (edge in other text area), reducing erroneous detection with the appearance of video text. Compared to other edge-based detection techniques, experimental results show that our proposed method achieves preferable performance.

This article proposes a novel method and apparatus to determine phase-reversal in a tone corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise. The technique presented here uses time-domain as well as frequency-domain based algorithms for proper estimation of phase change in disabling-tone signal. In this technique, instance of the phase-reversal is detected by a time domain algorithm. This is followed by estimation of the phase by a frequency-domain algorithm using bispectrum and DFT-based approaches. The proposed technique is tested for robustness after optimization of various parameters governing performance of the designs. Both, the bispectrum and DFT-based designs are able to detect successfully the presence of phase-reversed tone signal under noise.

Practical robot motion planning for multiple moving objects in large complex scenarios requires very fast collision detection. We present an efficient algorithm for collision detection between multiple moving objects intended to be used for robot motion planning. It is based on our spherical representation for non-convex and curved object that are not partitioned into convex ones. We present results that show the stability of the approach with respect to the number of polygons used to model the scene. Numerical evidence of the efficiency of the algorithm is also shown by several experiments, in which we obtain average intersection detection times of around one millisecond using 8 or 11 processors for two closely moving robots involving 1,900 polygons.

This paper describes an efficient method for retrieving the 3-dimensional shape associated to novelties in the environment of an autonomous robot, which is equipped with a laser range finder. First, changes are detected over the point clouds using a combination of the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and the earth mover's distance (EMD) algorithms. Next, the shape retrieval is achieved using two different algorithms. First, new samplings are generated from each Gaussian function, followed by a random sampling consensus (RANSAC) algorithm to retrieve geometric primitives. Furthermore, a new algorithm is developed to directly retrieve the shape according to the mathematical space of Gaussian mixture. In this paper, the set of geometric primitives has been limited to the set C = {sphere, cylinder, plane} . The two shape retrieval methods are compared in terms of computational cost and accuracy. Experimental results in various real and simulated scenarios demonstrate the feasibility of the approach.

We consider the neighbor-discovery problem in a fixed wireless network where each node is identified by its signature, and the signatures are chosen so as to limit collisions. Limited-complexity constraints lead to a simple algorithm based on incoherent detection of nodes. The performance of this algorithm is evaluated by computing the probability of a false alarm and of a missed detection of a single node.

This paper proposes the fragment packet partial re-assembly method for intrusion detection. In the proposed method, intrusion detection is performed not with all the fragment packets but with partial fragment packets. If the fragment packet comes, the packet-matching-buffer containing the partial part of the previous fragment packet and this packet is merged into a packet-matching-buffer. After this work, pattern matching for this buffer is done. Finally, for the purpose of the next packet, the partial region of the current packet is stored into the packet-matching-buffer. With the help of these steps, there are two advantages. The one is that it doesn't need to re-assemble all fragment packets for intrusion detection. The other is that the size of buffer can be smaller than all fragment packet re-assembly and can be predictable as a constant size. The proposed method can be used efficiently to prevent malicious code of attackers for avoiding intrusion detection system

Islanding detection is an important issue for distributed generation operating with main network. To solve the problem of reliability and sensitivity of conventional vector shift method, this paper presents a composite islanding detection method utilizing both angle change and frequency variation derived from distributed generator terminal voltage. The method consists of main criterion and auxiliary criterion, each one having its own setting and calculating algorithm. The establishment and working principle of the proposed method are described in detail. PSCAD/EMTDC based simulations on a test system are conducted and analyzed. Simulation results show that the composite method is sensitive and reliable.
