This paper describes very cost-effective algorithms to detect scene changes and field repetition in video sequences for a real-time MPEG encoder. It also provides a scheme to support a dynamic GOP structure reflecting the detection outcome on the fly. With these features, the encoder can encode video more efficiently in either quality or bitrate aspect. The proposed detection methods only utilize the existing information, field motion vectors and picture coding type, from MPEG coding and are very suitable for (but not limited to) software-based encoders.

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data presents a great potential for environmental monitoring applications and natural disaster management thanks to their insensitivity to atmospheric and Sun-illumination conditions. However, the automatic generation of change maps from multichannel SAR images acquired on the same geographic area at different times is still an open issue in the remote-sensing literature. In the present paper an automatic unsupervised contextual change-detection method is proposed for two-date multichannel SAR images, by integrating a SAR-specific extension of the Fisher transform with the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm or with some of its variants (the Landgrebe-Jackson EM and the stochastic EM algorithms), applied according to a Markov random field model for the image data. The method is validated by experiments on SIR-C/XSAR data

Based on comparative analysis of precision and direction selection characteristic of image frequency feature in the course of wavelet transform, combined with important influence factors of sub-space estimation during independent component analysis - decomposing of image block, the author puts forward two schemes on change detection of remote sensing image by use of wavelet transform, and analyzes application scope and realization difference deeply, and interprets improves results of image change detection by use of two schemes on the basis of theory. Simulation results show that application scope in second scheme is broader than that in first scheme because of parallel algorithm and robustness for massive remote sensing images.

change detection is a well-studied area of radar, involving the coherent comparison of two or more images. This is an important tool used to aid in surveillance, battle damage assessment, and other monitoring applications. For many of these applications, registration of the processed SAR imagery is sufficient, as opposed to registration of the raw signal-domain data. Time reversal SAR, however, is an adaptive waveform transmission technique for SAR that requires coherent processing of the data before image formation algorithms are applied. change detection for TR-SAR, then, must be performed as a pre-processing step. Ideally, the two change detection data collections would occur over the same trajectory and antenna positions, but this is not practical, and signal registration methods, rather than post-processing image registration, need to be developed and used to compensate for variations in the antenna's positions. In this work, we perform registration in the pre-processing stage, i.e., in the signal domain rather than in the image domain. We consider change detection in a mono-static TR-SAR scenario with the SAR antenna mounted on a linear railing, derive a model for the variations in trajectory positions between the two data collections, present our pre-processing methods, and verify them with experimental data.

In this paper, a change detection method for remotely sensed satellite images based on a decision theoretic method is proposed. The proposed method works in two stages. In the first stage, a difference image was computed using change vector analysis (CVA) technique. For multispectral images, CVA technique works well as it uses all the bands of two multidate satellite images to compute the difference image. In the next stage, the algorithm aims to classify the difference image into two classes: changed and unchanged, in such a way as to minimize the probability of misclassifications. Finally, a decision function based on the mean and covariance matrix of the changed and unchanged classes is used to build a change detection map showing changed and unchanged areas. The proposed algorithm was compared quantitatively and qualitatively with other existing state of the art methods. The results showed that the proposed method outperforms the other methods.

Traditional quickest change detection, which detects distribution changes in random processes, requires full or partial knowledge of pre-change or post-change distributions of samples. In practice, it is possible that the prior information is unavailable, which prohibits the direct application of existing algorithms such as the cumulative sum (CUSUM) algorithm. In this paper, data driven quickest detection is studied, with only the assumption of stationary ergodic (not necessary i.i.d. or Markovian) processes. To fully exploit existing algorithms within the probabilistic framework, the theory of algorithmic complexity (a.k.a. Kolmogorov complexity) is applied to bridge the observed samples and unknown probability distributions. In particular, data compression algorithms such as Lempel-Ziv algorithm are used to measure the unconditional and conditional algorithm complexities. Numerical simulations are carried out to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithms.

The main task is to apply in the semi arid landscape of Maule region (Chile), the multi-temporal change detection algorithm ¿RCNA multi-spectral¿, using TM/Landsat images (2004 and 2008). The RCNA is based in angular parameters; those angles are calculated in function of the axis formed by the straight line of regression of those points labeled in the field survey as no-change. The image for detection was transformed from a continuous (floating-point) to thematic image, through a slicing and labeling process. Hence it is possible to discriminate: two classes related to degradation, two referring to regeneration and one of no-change. In the timeframe studied 4.6% of area under study presents degradation patterns, derived from the complete removal of the matorral type, followed by changes of land use. We found out that the application of multi-spectral RCNA technique in semi-arid landscape is sufficiently robust and the complex radiometric correction is not necessary.

In this paper, two unsupervised methods for multi-band change detection are presented. Both methods model the multi-band difference image histogram in order to characterize different degrees of observed spectral changes. In the first approach, we extend the single-band change detection algorithm proposed by Prieto and Bruzzone in which a two-component mixture density is fit to the observed difference image histogram, where the components correspond to the changed and unchanged populations. The second approach employs the hierarchical modal associative clustering algorithm proposed by Li et al., in which a hierarchy of kernel densities at different bandwidths is employed to model the multi-band difference image histogram. The kernel density modes correspond to different scales of changes and are analyzed with respect to increasing kernel bandwidth so that changes occurring at different scales may be identified. Experiments, carried out on ASTER data; are conducted to display the changes captured by each method as well as to illustrate how the degrees of detected changes can be interpreted with respect to model complexity or scale.
