A family of computationally efficient DOA estimators under the partial relaxation framework has recently been proposed. In this framework, the manifold structure of the "interfering" signals is relaxed, and only the manifold structure of one desired signal is retained. This particular type of relaxation results in closed-form estimates for the interference parameters and enhances the estimation performance compared to the conventional spectral-search methods. By adopting the principle of the partial relaxation approach, in this paper, a modification of the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit algorithm is proposed and applied to the Direction-of-Arrival estimation problem. In each iteration of the proposed partial relaxation-based orthogonal matching pursuit (PR-OMP) algorithm, the impact on the receive signal from the previously-estimated directions and the remaining direction with the relaxed steering structure are considered. Simulations show that the proposed PR-OMP algorithm outperforms conventional estimators in the case of low Signal-to-Noise-Ratio or small number of snapshots.

Forming images of aircraft using passive radar systems that exploit "illuminators of opportunity," such as commercial television and FM radio systems, involves reconstructing an image from sparse samples of its Fourier transform. For a given flight path, a single receiver-transmitter pair produces one arc of data in Fourier space. Since the resulting Fourier sampling patterns bear a superficial resemblance to those found in radio astronomy, we consider using deconvolution techniques borrowed from radio astronomy, namely the clean algorithm, to form images from passive radar data. Some deconvolution techniques, such as the clean algorithm, work best on images which are well-modeled as a set of distinct point scatterers. Hence, such algorithms are well-suited to high-frequency imaging of man-made targets, as the current on the scatterer surface tends to collect at particular points. When using low frequencies of interest in passive radar, the images are more distributed. In addition, the complex-valued nature of radar imaging presents a complication not present in radio astronomy, where the underlying images are real valued. These effects conspire to present a great challenge to the clean algorithm, indicating the need to explore more sophisticated techniques.

In this paper, improvement in accuracy of scattering center extraction for inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image is presented in order to facilitate precise signature prediction. The original clean, which is typically used to compute scattering center model from ISAR image formation using the shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) technique, is based on the assumption;effect from noise interference is negligible. However, the assumption is limited in practical case. Thus, the point spread function (PSF) correlation technique is applied for the 2D ISAR image formation to improve accuracy. By extracting subsequent scattering centers using cross correlation between the PSF and residual image, point source location error from additive noise is highly mitigated. The proposed 2D clean is demonstrated for ideal point target and practical 3D CAD models through comparisons of the reconstructed image.

The authors have developed the Multipath-RTI (radio tomographic imaging) technique based on millimeter-wave (mm-wave) radios such as 5G mobile and WiGig LAN systems. Mm-wave radios can realize a highly accurate device-free localization (DFL) for smart home/smart building applications by utilizing the features that mm-wave radios usually have high delay and angle resolution, and thus is capable of separating the multi-path components (MPCs). The Multipath-RTI can drastically reduce the number of sensor nodes by using the virtual nodes created by multipaths. However, there are technical challenges to handle the multipaths and corresponding pathways. This paper proposed a practical data processing scheme for Multipath-RTI and presented some actual imaging results for DFL using double-directional channel sounding measurements.

Range splitting algorithms are used in radar signal processing to accurately estimate the range of a detected target by "splitting" the range bin and estimating where within the range bin the target is located. One particular algorithm, calibration range estimation (CRE), calibrates the response in the mainlobe of the matched filter to incremental delays and then accurately estimates the target's range from the received signal by linear interpolation of the calibration curve. The CRE algorithm is computationally efficient and empirically proven to achieve the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) in the presence of a single scatterer. However, CRE is not inherently immune to the multipath phenomenon and its performance degrades when the received signal is corrupted by a multipath reflection. In this paper we investigate the effects of multipath on the performance of the CRE algorithm and determine how much its performance deviates from the CRLB in the presence of multipath. Moreover, we provide a solution to the multipath problem by using the clean algorithm to remove the multipath signal and return the performance of CRE closer to the CRLB.

The traditional image-based RCS near-field to far-field transformation has the disadvantage of long processing time. This paper proposes a RCS near-field to far-field transformation based on the extraction of scattering centers, which is accelerated by GPU parallel computing. The scattering center extraction method is clean algorithm. By introducing GPU acceleration technology in image processing, the method improves the processing speed by more than 6 times. At the same time, compared with the traditional image-based RCS near-field to far-field transformation, the RCS transformation accuracy is improved by more than 3 times. Results verify the correctness and effectiveness of this method.

The short-range wireless multimedia is consider used a ultra wideband (UWB) technology for human body mobile and multimedia applications shows promise for wireless multi-media systems. Based on IEEE 802.15.6, wireless body area networks (BAN) require understanding the human body’s effects on channel characteristics. This paper presents how to evaluation of human body ulra-wideband (HB-UWB) transmission with line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight scenario. Our research aims to enhance HB-UWB channel propagation on the body media by employing with clean algorithm to eliminate noise. This research leverage findings from previous studies to facilitate performance comparison. Furthermore, for analyze system performance using the clean algorithm at different body positions. The measurement setup covers band the FCC regulated from 3.0 GHz to 11 GHz. It includes the tested with wideband antenna and vector network analyzer (VNA). HB-UWB characteristics are shows in the path loss and power delay profile are discussed as relevant parameters. This research very useful for design and evaluation of human body mobile network and wireless multimedia systems. © 2023 River Publishers.

In this study, we propose a new radio tomographic imaging (RTI) technique, called Multipath-RTI, using millimeter-wave (mm-wave) radios such as 5G mobile and WiGig LAN systems, which will realize a highly accurate device-free human movement monitoring for smart home/smart building applications. Utilizing the features that mm-wave radios usually have high delay and angle resolution, and thus is capable of separating the multi-path components (MPCs), the Multipath-RTI can drastically reduce the number of sensor nodes by using the virtual nodes created by multipaths. This article presented the fundamental operation verification by ray-tracing simulations, and also showed the feasibility study by mm-wave propagation measurements.

Time-domain ultra-wideband (UWB) channel characterization with deconvolution has become increasingly popular. However, owing to the nature of the frequency-selective non-line-of-sight channel on a general wideband channel-sounding pulse, the a priori assumption of the clean deconvolution algorithm does not necessarily hold. Moreover, the assumption of a fixed a priori can easily be violated since the radio-wave propagation mechanisms experienced by the sounding pulse can be frequency-selective. This paper first summarizes the use of the clean algorithm in UWB channel characterization, including a discussion about the a priori assumption, enhancements made to the basic algorithm, and the effect of the a priori assumption on channel characteristics. A study of the a priori dependence is then presented along with real-world measurements to demonstrate the shortcomings of the single-template clean algorithm. Finally, a high-resolution, multi-template deconvolution algorithm is proposed to enhance the channel estimation performance. This algorithm incorporates realistic frequency-dependent pulse distortions and is shown to supersede its predecessors by being computationally efficient, simple, accurate, and deployable for point-to-point measurements.

In order to improve the anti-interference performance, the high-frequency surface wave radar uses several discontinuous clear frequency bands for transmission. Spectral discontinuity causes high range sidelobes which influence detecting and identifying the targets. A novel modified clean algorithm is proposed to remove the sidelobes interferences of the equivalent matched processing result of the received signals. The simulation results show that the method can not only suppress the range sidelobes efficiently but also enhance the range resolution greatly.
