Recent advances in the field of e-learning are focused on constructivist teaching methods that encourage student-centered educational process in which teacher plays the role of a facilitator and mediator. The employment of cloud computing applications enables students to, regardless of space and time, collaborate, learn from each other, exchange ideas and different digital resources, and build knowledge within set educational goals. One of the key prerequisites for successful integration of novel technologies in higher education processes is their adoption by students. This paper examines an interplay among UTAUT model constituents and following facets of privacy: concerns, risks, and control. The validity and reliability of the proposed research framework and associated hypotheses were examined by means of the partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modelling (SEM) technique. Implications for both researchers and practitioners are presented and discussed.

This article presents new paradigms of confidential data protection. New classes of paradigms are dedicated to enhancing the already-known cryptographic solutions belonging to the group of data sharing schemes. Data sharing schemes are dedicated to executing data protection tasks by means of splitting data into parts (called shadows) and distributing those shadows among a group of secret trustees. This process is enriched by linguistic and biometric solutions to guarantee protection of the shared data by means of biometric labeling or by means of user verification with the application of meaning interpretation of individual secret parts. The novelty in this solution is in the application of cognitive algorithms to describe correctly the shared secret. Cognitive paradigms guarantee an execution of information concealment protocols and their division at various levels of knowledge held by individual protocol participants. The paradigms of cognitive description of the concealed data have been introduced into a new class of data sharing protocols, ie, into the linguistic-biometric threshold schemes. A special feature of the proposed solution is its universality, which is a possibility to apply the here-discussed threshold schemes in the processes of data concealment with varying importance. At the same time, this solution can be applied to execute data protection tasks against unauthorized acquisition or disclosure. This paper will present also the possibilities of application of the paradigms presented here to conceal data dedicated to the data management processes.

The main goal of this paper firstly is to propose a new definition for the term 'cloud computing' which helps understanding it more clearly from the perspective of developing cloud computing applications. The second one is to build a general architecture for developing cloud computing applications which provides a starting point for further discussion and possible coordination with other work to build a standard methodology for developing cloud computing applications. The new architecture, Service Oriented Nodes Architecture (SONA), is a multi-node architecture which is suitable for building/developing cloud computing applications from scratch with different contexts. It consists of three nodes (1) Client/Developer Node, (2) Interface/Intermediate Node, and (3) the cloud Node. All of these nodes have its own functions/roles and is oriented to deliver/use/provide services, so the architecture is called by that name. Also, this paper offers an initial exploratory analysis of key cloud computing concepts such as, cloud computing definition, advantages/challenges, best suited cloud computing applications area, and finally the STAR architecture, which is the base architecture of this work.

Developing Skills of cloud computing to Promote Knowledge in Saudi Arabian Students

The present study aims to develop the skills of the cloud computing applications and the knowledge economy among the university students by designing a participatory electronic learning environment. A sample was chosen from the students of the "General Diploma" in the Faculty of Education, King Khalid University. This sample was divided into two groups;experimental group that comprised of 15 students trained through the participatory e-learning environment;whereas, the control group comprised of 17 students, who were trained through the Blackboard Learning Management System. Skills for cloud computing applications and a knowledge economy skills scale were developed. Kolmogorov-Smirnov Mann was used for identifying the normality test of variables. Whitney test and Spearman correlation test were used to analyze the results, which indicated that the design of a participatory e-learning environment based on the theory of communication contributed to improve the skills level of cloud computing applications and knowledge economy skills. The results showed that participatory e-learning environment based on the theory of communication significantly contributes towards improving the skills level of cloud computing applications and knowledge economy skills among the students from Saudi Arabian universities. Moreover, future studies need to focus on blueprint in the context of the educational system of Saudi Arabia.

Transformative computing in advanced data analysis processes in the cloud

This paper will present a new computing methodology based on the application of cognitive information systems in transformative computing tasks. This methodology is an innovative approach to the tasks of transformative computing, which - based on the techniques of collection of data obtained from various sources and registered by means of various sensors - serve the purpose of their appropriate classification. Enhancing the here-discussed techniques by aspects of their semantic description and interpretation will make it possible to execute the processes of analysis, distribution and management of data/information obtained from various sources and simultaneously classified by means of transformative techniques. A novelty of the presented approach is an attempt to use cognitive methods of data description and analysis in the classification process, executed on the basis of the semantic, meaning description of large data sets. The presented transformative computing methodology will be used as an innovative approach to the implementation of complex computational and transmission tasks, that can be implemented using advanced data processing techniques. However, these techniques will be based on the possibility of deep analysis of semantic decks of various data sets recorded in the form of signals.

Modeling and simulation framework for quality estimation of web applications through architecture evaluation

The explosive growth of the cloud computing industry in recent years has paying attention to problems related to software services quality. Given that quality models serve as frameworks for quality evaluation, this paper proposes a modeling and simulation framework that measures properties derived from ISO/IEC 25010 quality model as main quality concerns of cloud computing applications. The simulation models are obtained by translating the architectural design to an equivalent functional description that, with aims to obtain the quality evaluation, explores all possible component states. Moreover, the framework automatically builds the simulation models using a set of predefined behaviors as components descriptors. Such models are combined with an experimental frame in a simulation scenario that helps to estimate quality employing the performance of the architectural design. Therefore the simulation process is hidden to software architects, providing an evaluation process able to be executed by any developer without knowledge of discrete-event simulation. Two general architectures are used as case study in order to show how works the modeling and simulation framework.

Improving the impact of power efficiency in mobile cloud applications using cloudlet model

The applications and services of Information and Communication Technologies are becoming a very essential part of our daily life. In addition, the spread of advanced technologies including the cloud and mobile cloud computing (MCC), wireless communication, and smart devices made it easy to access the internet and utilize unlimited number of services. For example, we use mobile applications to carry out critical tasks in hospitals, education, finance, and many others. This wide useful usage makes the smart devices an essential component of our daily life. The limited processing capacity and battery lifetime of mobile devices are considered main challenges. This challenge is increased when executing intensive applications. The MCC is believed to overcome these limitations. There are many models in MCC and one efficient model is the cloudlet-based computing. In this model, the mobile devices users communicate with the cloudlets using cheaper efficient technologies, and offload the job requests to be executed on the cloudlet rather than on the enterprise cloud or on the device itself. In this article, we investigated the cloudlet-based MCC architecture, and more specifically, the cooperative cloudlets model. In this model, the applications that require intensive computations such as image processing are offloaded from the mobile device to the nearest cloudlet. If the task cannot be accomplished at this cloudlet, the cloudlets cooperate with each other to accomplish the user request and send the results back to the user. To demonstrate the efficiency of this cooperative cloudlet-based MCC model, we conducted real experiments that execute selected applications such as: object code recognition, and array sorting to measure the delay and power consumption of the cloudlet-based system. Moreover, suitable cloud/mobile cloud simulators such as cloudSim and MCCSim will be used to perform simulation experiments and obtain time and power results.

While parameter sweep simulations can help undergraduate students and researchers to understand computer networks, their usage in the academia is hindered by the significant computational load they convey. This paper proposes DNSE3, a service oriented computer network simulator that, deployed in a cloud computing infrastructure, leverages its elasticity and pay-per-use features to compute parameter sweeps. The performance and cost of using this application is evaluated in several experiments applying different scalability policies, with results that meet the demands of users in educational institutions. Additionally, the usability of the application has been measured following industry standards with real students, yielding a very satisfactory user experience.

This paper described a novel architecture to deploy remote laboratories based on Mobile cloud computing (MCC) with the purpose of accomplish experimentations with available hardware or physical equipment's. Most of the software modules that comprise the remote laboratory are deployed in a public cloud, with the intention of taking benefit of the features of this technology. Only the user interface and the equipment under test are not deployed on the cloud. In addition, a wireless sensor network remote laboratory prototype based on this architecture has been constructed with the aim of carry out performance measurements. Measurement of the latency increase produced by deploying the software modules on the cloud were performed. The equipment under test, a WSN placed on a university laboratory, and the software modules deployed on the cloud are communicated through remote procedure calls. The users can access the remote laboratory and perform experiments through a web interface.

A cloud computing based Big-Bang Big-Crunch fuzzy logic multi classifier system for Soccer video scenes classification

Soccer video summarization and classification is becoming a very important topic due to the world wide importance and popularity of soccer games which drives the need to automatically classify video scenes thus enabling better sport analysis, refereeing, training, advertisement, etc. Machine learning has been applied to the task of sports video classification. However, for some specific image and video problems (like sports video scenes classification), the learning task becomes convoluted and difficult due to the dynamic nature of the video sequence and the associated uncertainties relating to changes in light conditions, background, camera angle, occlusions and indistinguishable scene features, etc. The majority of previous techniques (such as SVM, neural network, decision tree, etc.) applied to sports video classifications did not provide a consummate solution, and such models could not be easily understood by human users;meanwhile, they increased the complexity and time of computation and the associated costs of the involved standalone machines. Hence, there is a need to develop a system which is able to address these drawbacks and handle the high levels of uncertainty in video scenes classification and undertake the heavy video processing securely and efficiently on a cloud computing based instance. Hence, in this paper we present a cloud computing based multi classifier systems which aggregates three classifiers based on neural networks and two fuzzy logic classifiers based on type-1 fuzzy logic and type-2 fuzzy logic classification systems which were optimized by a Big-Bang Big crunch optimization to maximize the system performance. We will present several real world experiments which shows the proposed classification system operating in real-time to produce high classification accuracies for soccer videos which outperforms the standalone classification systems based on neural networks, type-1 and type-2 fuzzy logic systems.
