This paper proposes a novel coding algorithm based on loss compression using scalar quantization switching technique. The algorithm of switching is performed by the estimating input variance and further coding with Nonuniform Switched Scalar Compandor (NSSC). An accurate estimation of the input signal variance is needed when finding the best compressor function for a compandor implementation. It enables quantizers to be adapted to the maximal amplitudes of input signals. Additionally, we have discussed the performances of coding schemes designed according to waveform G.711 and G.712 standards and a novel presented codec standard for wideband speech and audio coding. We have pointed out the benefits that can be achieved by using our algorithm: raise of quality and compression. The main contribution of this model is reaching the loss compression through reaching the higher quality of the signal-to-quantization noise ratio (SQNR) in a wide range of signal volumes (variances) with respect to the necessary robustness over a broad range of input variances, and applying possibility for VOIP applications and an effective coding of signals that likewise speech signals follow Gaussian distribution and have the time varying characteristics.

Statistical coding techniques have been used for a long time in lossless data compression, using methods such as Huffman's algorithm, arithmetic coding, Shannon's method, Fano's method, etc. Most of these methods can be implemented either statically or adaptively. In this paper, we show that although Fano coding is sub-optimal, it is possible to generate static Fano-based encoding schemes which are arbitrarily close to the optimal, i.e. those generated by Huffman's algorithm. By taking advantage of the properties of the encoding schemes generated by this method, and the concept of "code word arrangement", we present an enhanced version of the static Fano's method, namely Fano(+). We formally analyze Fano(+) by presenting some properties of the Fano tree, and the theory of list rearrangements. Our enhanced algorithm achieves compression ratios arbitrarily close to those of Huffman's algorithm on files of the Calgary corpus and the Canterbury corpus. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. In the coal gangue automatic selection system, many coal gangue images have been created. It is urgent problem to store and transfer these coal gangue images in real-time processing. An improved embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) coding algorithm is introduced to compress the coal gangue images in this paper. According to wavelet transform theory, the basic features of wavelet coefficients are analyzed. The zerotrees are divided into the edge tree, texture tree and smoothness tree, and the different coding schemes are applied to these different trees. The low frequency components in the coal gangue images are compressed in lossless, whereas the wavelet coefficients of the high frequency in different directions are processed with the adaptive threshold values. The integer wavelet transform is adopted to keep the higher fidelity in inversion operation. Investigation results show that the proposed algorithm can raise the compression efficiency and gain the higher human vision quality in the reconstructed images.

Fast Encoding algorithms for Reed-Solomon Codes With Between Four and Seven Parity Symbols

This article describes a fast Reed-Solomon encoding algorithm with four and seven parity symbols in between. First, we show that the syndrome of Reed-Solomon codes can be computed via the Reed-Muller transform. Based on this result, the fast encoding algorithm is then derived. Analysis shows that the proposed approach asymptotically requires 3 XORs per data bit, representing an improvement over previous algorithms. The simulation demonstrates that the performance of the proposed approach improves with the increase of code length and is superior to other methods. In particular, when the parity number is 5, the proposed approach is about two times faster than other cutting-edge methods.

Abstract-This paper describes a high efficiency coding method for digital transmission of HDTV (high definition television) signals. Be- cause of the wide bandwidth of HDTV signals, there are two major problems. One is that HDTV signals have more random noise than conventional TV signals, which causes coding efficiency degradation. The other is that very high sampling frequencies are required. This restricts the hardware implementation of the coding algorithm. There- fore, two techniques are introduced to solve these problems. The first is a spatio-temporal adaptive filter that can reduce random noise and improve coding efficiency. The second is an extrapolativeand interpola- tive coding algorithm with adaptive intrafield/interframe prediction. This algorithm eliminates the problem caused by the high sampling frequencies and provides efficientcoding performance. A computer simulation is carried out to estimate the coding perfor- mance. Based on the simulation results, experimental coder hardware is implemented for 1125 line/60 Hz HDTV signals in order to evaluate real-timecodingperformance. The experimentalresultsshowed that this coding method can provide good picture quality at around 90 or 135 Mb/s, and that HDTV digital transmission is very promising at the broad-bandISDN H, rate.

A new coding algorithm is proposed for encoding arbitrarily shaped video objects. This algorithm employs an object-based discrete wavelet transform to decompose the video object. The decomposed pyramid is entropy encoded with a modified set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) algorithm called partial-SPIHT (P-SPIHT). which only encodes the coefficients belonging to the decomposed video objects. The performance of this algorithm shows that it is a competitive candidate for the standardisation of video object coding.

A novel coding method for high vividness three-dimensional holographic display

The quality of the reconstructed holographic three-dimensional image is seriously influenced by the noise. A novel encoded algorithm combining the Burch code with the four-step phase shifting method is presented to remove the noise and improve the contrast and resolution of the reconstructed image. The reconstructed three-dimensional images are compared with the results of the median filtering. The performance parameters of two methods are analyzed. The experimental results show that the zero-order light spot, conjugate image and speckle noise are suppressed effectively. The quality of the reconstructed image is noticeably improved. A universal representation for perceptual weighted zerotree coding algorithm is developed. in which the perceptual weighted zerotree coding is decomposed into two separate parts, i.e. visual weighting and zerotree representation, which can be realised independently. Prior to zerotree processing, the extracted full-tree is weighted by using a visual weighting matrix. Any zerotree algorithm like EZW, SPIHT and zerotree space-frequency quantisation can be used to encode the weighted coefficients of wavelet transform. In other words, any previous algorithm without perceptual weighting can be easily extended to form a new perceptual coder using the proposed framework. Several examples of visual weighting matrices are given to show the effect of the new method.

In this paper, a new method lossless for real time compression of still images in the field of the artificial vision, is presented. The proposed method is based on a new focus which incorporates the simultaneous execution of the acquisition and compression process of an image. The method consists of three processes. In the first one, a linear camera captures a line which is stored in memory. In the next step, the compression process of this line is executed at the same time as the acquisition process reads the next line. The process is repeated downwards starting from the upper line of the image. The novelty and main contribution of this method is in the compression process. A new coding algorithm is formulated and developed. The proposed method guarantees a ratio of compression of 3:1 with high probability and a real time execution.
