A coding method for a sequent calculus of propositional logic

The paper deals with a coding method for a sequent calculus of the propositional logic. The method is based on the sequent calculus. It allows us to determine if a formula is derivable in the calculus without constructing a derivation tree. The main advantage of the coding method is its compactness in comparison with derivation trees of the sequent calculus. The coding method can be used as a decision procedure for the propositional logic.

In order to obtain structure information, RNA secondary structure is usually reduced into characteristic sequence based on eight symbols (A, C, G, U, A', C', G', U'), which is accompanied with loss of information. In this manuscript, according to the characters of RNA secondary structure, we propose a new four bit binary representation of RNA secondary structure with sixteen symbols A, C, G, U, A' C', G', U', A '', C '', G '', U '', A''', C''', G''' and U'''. Based on this binary representation, we introduce an alignment method for RNA secondary structure by changing the structure alignment to sequence alignment.

Fingerspelling based on gesture recognition is a useful method to assist communication between deaf-mute people and able-bodied people. The fingerspelling system based on the principle of phoneme is the most convenient way for daily communication. This paper presents a new fingerspelling system based on the Chinese phonetic alphabets. Twenty-five gestures were designed to represent the components of pronunciation of Chinese(initial consonants, vowels and tones), and the pronunciation of each Chinese character was expressed with four gestures. The recognition of these 25 gestures was realized by coding the angles of 14 finger joints. The verification test demonstrated that the 25 gestures can be recognized successfully, and this system can be used for effective daily communication between deaf-mute people and able-bodied people.

Semantic interoperability of mineral exploration geodata is a long-term concern in mining projects. Inconsistent conceptual schemas and heterogeneous professional terms among various geodata sources in a mining project often hinder their efficient use and/or reuse. Our study of a controlled vocabulary focuses on interoperability of mineral exploration geodata of different mining projects of a mining group in China. In order to achieve this purpose, a proper representation of concepts and their interrelationships in the knowledge domain of mineral exploration for mining projects is proposed. In addition, we propose that for wider interoperability of mining project geodata the controlled vocabulary underpinning them should be interoperable with concepts in related applications in the mineral exploration domain. In developing our controlled vocabulary, we adopted/adapted national standards of geosciences taxonomies and terminologies. The organization structure of terms, coding method, metadata schema for database applications and an extensible structure of our controlled vocabulary are discussed. The controlled vocabulary we developed was then used to reconcile heterogeneous geodata and to set up integrated databases for various mining projects of the mining group. Our study shows that a properly organized controlled vocabulary not only allows for efficient reconciliation of heterogeneous geodata sources in similar or related projects, but also makes related geodata to be interoperable with extramural applications in the same knowledge domain. To meet the transmission security requirements of CNC systems, a message safety communication model, adopting two kinds of fault tolerance algorithms based on CNC dual ring bus, was presented. The safety communication mechanism and algorithms were deeply researched, and the structure of safety message in CNC dual ring bus was proposed. And then mathematic methods were adopted to analyze the performance of the new mechanism. The results proved that our fault-tolerant safety communication model can offer high available and high effective communication support for reliable data service on Fieldbus.

Based on the comparison of the current coding method, PSB-a new coding method was proposed, which can rapidly and accurately judge the parent-child ancestor/descendant and sibling relationships between any two nodes of the XML document tree. Based on prime and sequence number, this coding method was adopted to support the XML update, which can effectively reduce the secondary XML coding rate. Experiments show that PSB is an effective and dynamic coding method.

Prediction of β-Turns Using Double BP Network with Novel coding Schemes of Amino Acids

Protein structure prediction is one of the most important problems in structural biology, β-turns are always at the turn of a protein tertiary structure and thus β-turn＇s prediction is a key step in tertiary structure prediction. There are some methods to predict β-turns based on machine learning techniques such as k-nearest method, neural networks and support vector machine. In this paper, we construct a classifier using double BP networks and put forward two novel methods to code amino acids in the second network. When trained and tested on different datasets, they achieve more accuracy than other coding methods.

The successful application of genetic algorithms in distributed database greatly depends on appropriate coding method for query optimization because the coding method of parameters can directly affect the construction of genetic operators and performance of the algorithms. Considering a combinatorial optimum with the restriction of both the position and the condition to include a lot of messages, this paper aims to devise a new coding method with tree structure based on the position and the value. Besides, the genetic operators, i.e. reproduction, crossover and mutation are designed for this coding. The improved crossover needs to be implemented by two steps and the improved mutation is composed of the value mutation and the position mutation. The proposed algorithm is used to implement query of distributed database, the experiment results showed that it is very effective for optimization.

This study proposes a preliminary method for coding random self-similar river networks as a series of numbers, and investigates the corresponding algorithm that calculates the geometric distances from the code series. The coding method, generating random self-similar patterns with various probabilities of particular pattern links, and transferring the pattern into numerical code series, is proposed, based on the wide range of stochastic characteristics of natural patterns. The heredity of self-similarity and the connecting relationships inside the generated pattern are discussed. Finally, the algorithm to calculate the geometric distances of the generated pattern are developed.

This work develops a preliminary method for coding random self-similar patterns as a series of numbers and investigates the corresponding algorithm to calculate the topological distance between starting point and the link in the generated fractal pattern from the code series. With reference to the wide range of stochastic property in natural patterns, a process for generating fractal patterns with various generating probabilities of the pattern links denoted as separately random self-similar generation or separately random fractal is proposed. To assess the adaptability of the process, the coding method is applied to the generation of a random self-similar river network and the corresponding algorithm for calculating topological distance of the links is used to determine the width function of the pattern. The width function-based geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph (WF-GIUH) model is then applied to estimate the runoff of the Po-bridge watershed in northern Taiwan. The results show that the separately random self-similar generating algorithm can be implemented successfully to calculate hydrologic responses.
