Decision support systems are used in a variety of fields. This paper considers a class of multisubject decision support systems with a geo-interface. The users of such systems are decision makers. The main purpose of any decision support system is to provide the information required by the user. In other words, the decision support system should satisfy the information needs of the user. To make this process more efficient, it is necessary to have a model of the user's information needs. This paper describes a model and a formalised iterative procedure for satisfying the user's information needs. This model is developed on the basis of thesaurus approach and allows to use original pragmatic and semantic evaluations of informativeness of spatial data. The methods of system analysis and ontological design, as well as methods of calculating the semantic similarity of concepts for thesauruses of the system and the user were used to create the model. The description of the user information needs model is based on the mathematical apparatus of set theory. The obtained results can be useful for solving the problem of creating effective methods of human-computer interaction. The use of the model and procedure for satisfying the user's information needs in the development of decision support systems allows to increase the efficiency of user interaction with the system to solve various applied problems.

With the move to ubiquitous computing, user interfaces (UI) are no longer bound to specific devices. While this problem can be tackled using the model-based UI development (MBUID) process, the usability of the device-specific interfaces is still an open question. We are presenting a combined system that integrates MBUID with a cognitivemodeling framework in order to provide usability predictions at development time. Because of their potential impact, our focus within usability problems lies on user errors. These are captured in a cognitivemodel that capitalizes on meta-information provided by the MBUID system such as the abstract role of a UI element within a task sequence (e.g., input, output, command). The free parameters of the cognitivemodel were constrained using data from two previous studies. A validation experiment featuring a new application and UI yielded an unexpected error pattern that was nonetheless consistent with the model predictions.

We present a new method to identify navigation-related Web usability problems based on comparing actual and anticipated usage patterns. The actual usage patterns can be extracted from Web server logs routinely recorded for operational websites by first processing the log data to identify users, user sessions, and user task-oriented transactions, and then applying an usage mining algorithm to discover patterns among actual usage paths. The anticipated usage, including information about both the path and time required for user-oriented tasks, is captured by our ideal user interactive path models constructed by cognitive experts based on their cognition of user behavior. The comparison is performed via the mechanism of test oracle for checking results and identifying user navigation difficulties. The deviation data produced from this comparison can help us discover usability issues and suggest corrective actions to improve usability. A software tool was developed to automate a significant part of the activities involved. With an experiment on a small service-oriented website, we identified usability problems, which were cross-validated by domain experts, and quantified usability improvement by the higher task success rate and lower time and effort for given tasks after suggested corrections were implemented. This case study provides an initial validation of the applicability and effectiveness of our method.

This paper reports on our recent work on intelligentuser assistance for collaborative design *** to the success of the agent framework designhas been a cognitive user model, which is composed ofa user interest model and behavior model. Theintelligent assistance architecture integrates thesemodels with other environment models as well as withinference, knowledge-update and collaborationcomponents. All these models and componentscollectively enable the intelligent assistant agent toeffectively achieve the user's goals in a collaborativedesign *** proposed usermodel isimplemented in a coordinated, intelligent, rationalagent ( CIR-Agent) model on a FIPA-compliant *** paper also presents a case study on amultidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) softwareenvironment and our efforts towards a generalcollaborative personal assistant agent framework.
