In the paper a new way of pattern interpretation directed for automatic semantic categorization and image content understanding will be described. Such an understanding will be based on the linguistic theories of pattern classification and is aimed at facilitation of merit content analysis of for some classes of medical and economical patterns. The approach presented in this paper will show the great possibilities of automatic diseases interpretation in some analysed structures, and supporting information management using the grammar approach. The interpretation will be based on cognitive resonance processes, which imitate the psychological processes of understanding the registered patterns as they take place in the brain of a human being.

Intelligence is a driving force or an ability to acquire and use knowledge and skills, or to inference in problem solving. This keynote lecture describes the taxonomy and nature of intelligence. It analyzes roles of information in the evolution of human intelligence, and the needs for logical abstraction in modeling the brain and natural intelligence. A formal model of intelligence is developed known as the generic intelligence mode (GIM), which provides a foundation to explain the mechanisms of advanced natural intelligence such as thinking, learning, and inferences. A measurement framework of intelligent capability of humans and systems is presented in the forms of intelligent quotient, intelligent equivalence, and intelligent metrics. On the basis of GIM model and theories, the compatibility of nature and machine intelligence is revealed, which forms a theoretical foundation for rigorous study in machine intelligence, AI, and intelligent systems.

cognitive informatics and granular computing are two emerging fields of study concerning information and knowledge processing. A central notion to this processing is information and knowledge granularity. Concepts, as the basic units of thought underlying human intelligence and communication, may play a fundamental role when integrating the results from the two fields in terms of information and knowledge coding, representation, communication, and processing. While cognitive informatics focuses on information processing in the abstract, in machines, and in the brain, granular computing models such processing at multiple levels of granularity. In this paper, we examine a conceptual framework for concept learning from the viewpoints of cognitive informatics and granular computing. Within the framework, we interpret concept learning based on a layered model of knowledge discovery.

This paper explores the architecture, theoretical foundations, and paradigms of contemporary cybernetics from perspectives of cognitive informatics (CI) and computational intelligence. The modern domain and the hierarchical behavioral model of cybernetics are elaborated at the imperative, autonomic, and cognitive layers. The CI facet of cybernetics is presented, which explains how the brain may be mimicked in cybernetics via CI and neural informatics. The computational intelligence facet is described with a generic intelligence model of cybernetics. The compatibility between natural and cybernetic intelligence is analyzed. A coherent framework of contemporary cybernetics is presented toward the development of transdisciplinary theories and applications in cybernetics, CI, and computational intelligence.

Software is the object of study in software engineering and computer science. Software is an intellectual artifact that provides a solution for a repeatable computer application, which enables existing tasks to be done easier, faster, and smarter, or which provides innovative applications for the industries and daily life. This paper attempts to explore the basic characteristics of software and to search the informatics and cognitive foundations of software in supplement to theories of computer science. In this paper, the nature of software is characterized by its informatics, behavioral, mathematical, and cognitive properties. Then, the cognitive informatics foundations of software engineering are developed on the basis of the informatics laws of software and software engineering psychology.

This paper informs about the project which is running at the Prague University of Economics (PUE), Faculty of informatics and statistics. This project is aimed on introduction of the new study specialisation cognitive informatics. The project is supported by the European Social Fund and the Municipality of Prague. In our conception cognitive informatics is a way out of too much technical and slight orientation of the "clear" informatics. informatics is, by definition as well as in its practical meaning, an infrastructural issue, its importance lies in support. As the essence of this characteristic of informatics we regard the cognition. From the above mentioned conception follows our idea of the content of this new study specialisation as well as of its placement into the system of the informatics studies at the PUE. Our conception is quite specific in the context of cognitive sciences as well as in the context of cognitive informatics itself; nevertheless we are sure the need of this conception is very strong and actual.

Basic research in cognitive informatics (CI) and cognitive Computing (CC) provides fundamental theories of intelligence science for Autonomous AI (AAI) and cognitive systems. cognitive image processing is an important part of cognitive informatics. High quality images are crucial for cognitive image processing, especially in small object recognition and image segmentation. Multi-images restoration provides an alternative approach for these problems. For example, with image denoising and image deblurring, the raw images can be better provided to improve the result of cognitive image processing. The improvement of imaging device's sampling rate provides a clue to design a common approach for multi-images restoration. This paper concerns with a mixed-regularization approach for solving multi-images (MRMI) restoration problems. The MRMI algorithm generalizes the original total variation (TV) based algorithm by fusing multiple noisy images to maximize the useful information restored from the degraded images. The proposed approach combines l1 regularizer and TVp regularizer to restore a latent image, which operates on two different domains, i.e., pixel and gradient. This mixed-regularization method can simultaneously exploit the sparsity of natural signal. The resulting problem is solved by the adaptation of generalized accelerated proximal gradient (GAPG) method. The effectiveness of our approach is validated in the context of multi-images denoising, deblurring and inpainting. Compared with some iterative shrinkage-thresholding algorithms, the experimental results indicates that our approach can restore a better image.

Knowledge is acquired information in forms of data, behavior, experience, and skills retained in memory through learning. This paper presents the nature of human knowledge, its mathematical model, and its manipulation by concept algebra. The taxonomy of knowledge and its hierarchical abstraction model of knowledge are investigated. Mathematical models of knowledge and its manipulation by concept algebra are developed. The theory of knowledge acquisition and the cognitive model of knowledge spaces are formally described covering the effort and complexity models of knowledge creation and acquisition. The framework of formalized knowledge systems is developed based on the analyses of formal and empirical knowledge.
