Adaptive combination of affine projection and NLMS algorithms

We propose a novel scheme for combining two adaptation terms of affine projection algorithms with different projection orders and step-sizes. The selection of the mixing parameter that determines the performance of the proposed combination scheme is derived by the largest decrease of the mean-square deviation. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits a fast convergence speed and a small steady-state misalignment. Moreover, the proposed algorithm achieves a low computational complexity in the steady-state. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In order to analyze harmonic and inter-harmonic parameters more accurately, a new detecting method that combined the nonlinear least squares and fast Fourier transform(FFT) was proposed. The FFT was used to produce a rough estimated value of harmonic parameters and then the signal model was set. Finally, the parameters can be estimated more accurately by the use of optimization algorithm which based on damped nonlinear-least squares method. The combined method solves the problem of inaccurate estimate by FFT and solves the problem of how to set the signal model and to choose initial value. The simulation results show that the combined method is effective and far more accuracy than interpolated Hanning window method.

Considering the signatures captured from information about the hostile radar operation intention, this paper puts forward concepts of the simplest evidence support format, duality evidence support format, and same-type evidence and so on. Based on these concepts, it discusses the problem of the orthogonal sum with the duality evidence support format expressed as the simplest evidence support format, and then, drawing its conclusion to show the relation between the enemy intention and the characteristic information. Thereby, it establishes a system for radar operation intention discrimination to complete the final determinant. This new model brings expression and combination of evidences simplified and computation reduced. By practical application, this algorithm has been proved feasibility and effectiveness.

A method for automatic extraction of Digital Terrain Model (DTM) from huge laser scanning data is presented. With the characteristics of LiDAR system, raw point clouds represent both terrain and non-terrain surface. In order to generate DTM, several methods were developed to remove non-terrain points. algorithms for removing non-terrain points are named as filtering. The filtering method can be categorized as point-based and segment-based algorithms. Point-based filtering can not deal with landscape with discontinuities. Segment-based filtering, on the other hand, generates segments by clustering points based on surface fitting and uses topological and geometric properties for classification. Segment-based algorithms, by global looking of surroundings, can give more reliable results. Traditionally, filtering algorithms are performed and tested in small site. For the huge amount of point clouds, applying segmentation or segment-based filtering can not accomplish in one go in physical computer memory. To extract DTM from huge amount of LiDAR data, three major steps are involved. First, the whole datasets is split into several small overlapping tiles. For each tile, by removing wall and vegetation points, accurate segments are found. The segments from all tiles are assigned unique segment number. In the following step, topological descriptions for the segment distribution pattern and height jump between adjacent segments are identified in each tile. Based on the topology and geometry, segment-based filtering algorithm is performed for classification in each tile. Then, based on the spatial location of the segment in one tile, two confidence levels are assigned to the classified segments. The segments with low confidence level are because of losing geometric or topological information in one tile. High accuracy combination algorithm and a posteriori error estimation for solving the first kind Abel integral equations

This paper presents high accuracy combination algorithm for solving the first kind Abel integral equations. To avoid solving ill-posed problems, we transform the first kind Abel integral equation to the second kind Volterra integral equation with a continuous kernel expressed by a weakly singular integral. By using integration rules the approximation of this kernel can be easily computed. Then two quadrature algorithms for solving Abel integral equations are proposed, which possess accuracy order O(h(1+alpha))(0 < alpha < 1) and asymptotic expansion of the errors. By means of combination algorithm, we may obtain an approximate solution with a higher accuracy order 0(h 2). Moreover a posteriori error estimate for the algorithms is derived. State of charge (SOC) estimation is an increasingly important issue in battery management system (BMS) and has become a core factor to promote the development of electric vehicle (EV). In addition to offering the real time display of battery parameters to user, the accurate SOC information would exert some controls over the charging and discharging process that in turn reduces the risk of cell over voltage. Considering the shortcoming of traditional estimation methods and the harsh requirements in EV environment, a new method named combination algorithm is proposed in this paper in accordance with the characteristics of lithium-ion power battery. Some capacity effect factors, such as current rate and cell temperature, are also taken into consideration in the algorithm. The dynamic discharge test shows that the maximal SOC estimation error is less than 5%, which validates the feasibility and availability of the combination algorithm in the SOC estimation of electric vehicle.

Combining algorithms in automatic detection of QRS complexes in ECG signals

QRS complex and specifically R-Peak detection is the crucial first step in every automatic electrocardiogram analysis. Much work has been carried out in this field, using various methods ranging from filtering and threshold methods, through wavelet methods, to neural networks and others.. Performance is generally good, but each method has situations where it fails. In this paper, we suggest an approach to automatically combine different QRS complex detection algorithms, here the Pan-Tompkins and wavelet algorithms, to benefit from the strengths of both methods. In particular, we introduce parameters allowing to balance the contribution of the individual algorithms;these parameters are estimated in a data-driven way. Experimental results and analysis are provided on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital (MIT-BIH) Arrhythmia Database. We show that our combination approach outperforms both individual algorithms.

Circular shortest path in images

Shortest path algorithms have been used in a number of applications such as crack detection, road or linear feature extraction in images. There are applications where the starting and ending positions of the shortest path need to be constrained. In this paper, we present several new algorithms for the extraction of a circular shortest path in an image such that the starting and ending positions coincide. The new algorithms we developed include multiple search algorithm, image patching algorithm, multiple backtracking algorithm, the combination of image patching and multiple back-tracking algorithm, and approximate algorithm. The typical running time of our circular shortest path extraction algorithm on a 256 x 256 image is about 0.3 s on a rather slow 85 MHz Sun SPARC computer. A variety of real images for crack detection in borehole data and object boundary extraction have been tested and good results have been obtained. (C) 2002 Pattern Recognition Society.
