This paper draws comparisons between a command line interface and a Graphical User interface. We have developed a generic VR tool (VaiR) to be used for various purposes in simulations and demonstrations by different types of users. VaiR is a complex SW tool written in C++. Its object-oriented approach and the abstract composition makes it flexible and adaptable. In this paper, we investigate the necessity for the development of a graphical user interface to support such complex VR systems, and provide its users a relatively simple and more effective programming environment. The results of our pilot study indicate that a GUI is beneficial even for skilled programmers since it presents a logical order with pre-initialized basic settings. We also investigated its use in various levels of programming skills. Since the novices and experts handle SW tools differently in coding, the GUI of a complex VR system should be adaptive.

NAND CLI Bench Programming is a crucial process used to verify the functionality and performance of NAND-based storage devices. The Magnum EV testers at the failure analysis Lab at Intel site use the CLI platform which is a command line interface software. The CLI platform's NAND Bench command line interface program is a "device-level testing" or "chip-level testing" procedure. It is done to verify whether the NAND flash memory device can function properly when programmed using CLI. In CLI bench programming of a NAND flash memory device, particular commands must be used for programming and reading data from the memory cells. These commands may have variable parameters that the user can change on-the-fly to suit their needs. To ensure that the end consumers are provided with high-quality and dependable products, NAND CLI bench programming testing seeks to identify any defects or issues in the device when it is being programmed via the command-line interface. This project delivers the knowledge obtained on CLI bench programming and how it is used to test NAND devices. The step-by-step process of NAND CLI Bench programming has been explained in detail and all the technologies and programming languages used for this have been given an overview.

Testing is an important phase during the development cycle of software. Generating test cases is an important activity during this phase. TCG for GUI is a least focused area and the techniques which are being used in command line interface do not fit here. One of the means to formally represent knowledge is through ontology. It represents domain information as a set of concepts and relationship among them. Ontology based GUI testing is a new branch of testing. To validate the framework for generating test case based on ontology an experiment has been conducted.

Cerenkov Luminescence Tomography of Aminopeptidase N (APN/CD13) Expression in Mice Bearing HT1080 Tumors

In vivo imaging of aminopeptidase N (APN/CD13) expression is crucial for the early detection of cancer. This study attempted to show that APN/CD13 expression can be imaged and quantified with novel Cerenkov luminescence tomography (CLT). (NaI)-I-131 with various activities was placed at different depths in a tissue-mimicking phantom, and various porcine tissues and luminescent images were acquired. The binding of I-131-NGR with human fibrosarcoma HT1080 and human colon cancer HT-29 cells was detected with Cerenkov luminescence imaging (CLI). Nude mice bearing HT-1080 tumors were imaged after injection with I-131-NGR using both planar and tomographic CLI methods. The penetration depth increased with ascending activity of (NaI)-I-131. There was a robust linear correlation between the optical signal intensity and the HT1080 cell numbers (r(2) = .9691), as well as the activity (r(2) = .9860). The three-dimensional visualization CLT results clearly showed that I-131-NGR uptake in tumor tissues represented a high expression of the APN/CD13 receptor. CLT also allowed quantifying I-131-NGR uptake in tumor tissues showing an average activity of 0.1388 +/- 4.6788E-6 MBq in tumor tissues. Our study indicated that I-131-NGR combined with CLT allowed us to image and quantify tumor-associated APN/CD13 expression noninvasively. The promising CLT technique could be potentially used for sensitively evaluating tumor angiogenesis in vivo.

Reducing the size of .NET applications

Executable files for the .NET Framework currently cannot be packed by binary file compressors such as UPX (http://***/) because .NET uses customized sections in the Portable Executable (PE) file (which is used by all Windows executable files). The .NET Execution Engine expects Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) data to be in the proper sections of the PE file. However, CLI data is placed in the PE sections uncompressed by default. In this article, I present a technique for reducing the size of .NET executables without using native code or otherwise modifying the PE format. Instead, I use reflection, which is supported by the .NET Framework, and pack the applications at a higher level.

Gimli: open source and high-performance biomedical name recognition

Background: Automatic recognition of biomedical names is an essential task in biomedical information extraction, presenting several complex and unsolved challenges. In recent years, various solutions have been implemented to tackle this problem. However, limitations regarding system characteristics, customization and usability still hinder their wider application outside text mining research. Results: We present Gimli, an open-source, state-of-the-art tool for automatic recognition of biomedical names. Gimli includes an extended set of implemented and user-selectable features, such as orthographic, morphological, linguistic-based, conjunctions and dictionary-based. A simple and fast method to combine different trained models is also provided. Gimli achieves an F-measure of 87.17% on GENETAG and 72.23% on JNLPBA corpus, significantly outperforming existing open-source solutions. Conclusions: Gimli is an off-the-shelf, ready to use tool for named-entity recognition, providing trained and optimized models for recognition of biomedical entities from scientific text. It can be used as a command line tool, offering full functionality, including training of new models and customization of the feature set and model parameters through a configuration file. Advanced users can integrate Gimli in their text mining workflows through the provided library, and extend or adapt its functionalities. Based on the underlying system characteristics and functionality, both for final users and developers, and on the reported performance results, we believe that Gimli is a state-of-the-art solution for biomedical NER, contributing to faster and better research in the field. Outcomes of reinterventions after subintimal angioplasty

Objective: With increased use of subintimal angioplasty (SIA), the role of reintervention after recurrence is currently unknown. To more clearly define the technical feasibility, patency, and clinical outcomes of reinterventions after SIA, we reviewed our cumulative experience. Methods: A retrospective review of patient information (including demographics, indications, procedures, noninvasive arterial studies, and postprocedural events) was performed on those patients undergoing reintervention after a primary subintimal angioplasty in the infrainguinal vessels. Continuous and noncontinuous data were compared using the Student t-test and the z test, respectively. Patency was calculated by Kaplan-Meier analysis. Survival curves were compared using log-rank and Wilcoxon testing for univariate analysis and Cox hazard-regression analysis for multivariate analysis. Results: From December 2002, through July 2006, 495 SIAs were performed for infrainguinal disease in 482 patients. Of this cohort, 121 patients (25%) required 188 consecutive reinterventions. Each patient underwent an average of 1.5 +/- 0.8 (range, 1-7) reinterventions during this study. We analyzed only the outcomes of 124 consecutive, first reinterventions. Mean interval time between primary SIA and the first reintervention was 7.8 +/- 6.8 months (range, 1 day-31 months). Indications for reintervention were clinical only (recurrence of symptoms or worsening exam), diagnostics only (recurrence based on peripheral vascular lab studies), or both in 18%, 25%, and 52% of patients, respectively. Technical success was achieved in 94% (n = 117) of the procedures. Repeat SIA technique was utilized in 68% (n = 84) of reinterventions and other endovascular therapies (32%;n = 40), of which the majority were transluminal angioplasty, for the remaining reinterventions. Risk factors, medical therapies and perioperative events in limb salvage surgery: Observations from the PREVENT III multicenter trial

Objectives: Patients who require infrainguinal revascularization for critical limb ischemia (CLI) are at elevated risk for cardiovascular events. The PREVENT III study was a prospective, randomized, multicenter, phase 3 trial of edifoligide for the prevention of vein graft failure in patients with CLI. We examined the baseline characteristics, perioperative medical therapies, and 30-day incidence of major cardiovascular events in the PREVENT III cohort. Methods. Demographics, medical and surgical history, mode of presentation for the index limb, procedural details, and concomitant medications were reviewed for all patients enrolled in PREVENT III (N = 1,404). Major adverse cardiovascular events, including death, myocardial infarction, or cerebrovascular event (stroke or transient ischemic attack) were tabulated. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to discern factors that were associated with the utilization of medical therapies and with perioperative events. Results. Demographics and comorbidities reflected a population with diffuse, advanced atherosclerosis. Perioperative mortality was 2.7%, and major morbidity included myocardial infarction in 4.7% and stroke/transient ischemic attack in 1.4%. Among this population of CLT patients, 33% were not on antiplatelet therapy at study entry, and 24% were not receiving antithrombotics of any type. In addition, 54% of patients were not receiving lipid-lowering therapy, and 52% were not prescribed beta-blocker medications at study entry. On multivariate analysis, race was a significant determinant of antithrombotic utilization, with African-American patients less frequently treated both at baseline and discharge (adjusted odd ratios, 0.5 and 0.6, P < .0001). Antithrombotic and beta-blocker drug usage increased in the overall cohort from baseline (76% and 48%) to discharge (88% and 60%;P < .0001). Therapeutic angiogenesis for critical limb ischemia

The application of gene- and cell-based therapies to promote angiogenesis is a novel concept to treat lower-limb critical limb ischemia (CLI) and may provide an unmet need for patients with no options for revascularization. Proof of concept was demonstrated in animal models resulting in clinical trials that have confirmed the feasibility and short-term efficacy of intramuscular injection of angiogenetic tissue growth factors or bone marrow stem cells. The safety of these biologic therapies has been demonstrated in randomized clinical trials with no "off-target" angiogenesis, growth of occult tumors, or progression of diabetic retinopathy. Current phase III randomized clinical trials using a DNA plasmid with the hepatocyte growth factor gene or bone marrow aspirate concentrate of mesenchymal cells are designed to address several crucial issues, including proper patient selection criteria, relevant clinical endpoints, and long-term efficacy. Because effectiveness of these novel therapies remains to be established, ongoing and future randomized clinical trials should be placebo-controlled, investigator-blinded, and have amputation-free survival as the primary endpoint. Further development of efficient gene transfer techniques and keeping transplanted stem cells healthy have the potential to make biologic therapies more robust in promoting angiogenesis, tissue regeneration, and resolution of CLI symptoms. If sustained efficacy can be demonstrated, new therapeutic strategies for patients with CLI will be available for clinicians, ie, limb revascularization using angiogenic gene or stem cell therapy alone, or in conjunction with endovascular intervention.
