The rapid expansion of connected devices has ushered in the Internet of Everything (IoE), enabling seamless integration among machines, people, and systems across diverse applications. However, the IoE faces significant challenges in ensuring efficient, reliable, and energy-conscious data transmission at scale. To address these issues, we present CLIC-IoE (Cross-Layer Solutions to Improve communications under IoE), an innovative cross-layer framework designed to significantly enhance communication performance within IoE environments. By intelligently coordinating multiple communication layers, CLIC-IoE achieves remarkable results: a 39.47% reduction in data errors, a 38.33% increase in delivery rates, and a decrease of 0.8 nanoseconds in end-to- end delays. Additionally, it optimizes energy consumption, demonstrating a 51.67% improvement in energy efficiency (CEA) and a 20% boost in Active Things Rate (ATR). These advancements position CLIC-IoE as a transformative solution that enhances the scalability and reliability of IoE systems while promoting sustainable energy use. This manuscript provides a comprehensive exploration of the CLIC-IoE architecture, algorithms, and performance evaluation, emphasizing its potential impact on future IoE deployments. By addressing the critical challenges faced in IoE environments, CLIC-IoE not only enhances communication performance but also paves the way for more sustainable and efficient IoT systems.

Roundabouts: Traffic Simulations of Connected and Automated Vehicles-A State of the Art

The paper deals with traffic simulation within roundabouts when both "connected and automated vehicles" (CAVs) and human-driven cars are present. The aim is to present the past, current and future research on CAVs running into roundabouts within the Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) framework. Both microscopic traffic simulations and virtual reality simulations by dynamic driving simulators will be considered. The paper is divided into five parts. At first, the literature is analysed using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology based on Scopus database. Secondly, the influence of CAVs on roundabout-specific design features and configuration is analysed. Gap-acceptance models used to define the capacity of the roundabout, one of its most important key performance indicators, are also presented. Third, the most common simulation software are described and analysed in terms of traffic demand implementation. Then the communication approaches and path management algorithms are studied. An example is proposed on the integration of microscopic traffic simulations and dynamic driving simulators virtual reality simulations. Finally, car following models suitable for roundabout traffic are discussed. There is still a gap between simulations and actual experience. There are reasonable doubts on how modelling and optimizing CAVs' behaviour into roundabouts in view of CCAM. It seems that Cooperative, Connected and Automated Vehicles (CCAVs), more than simply Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs), could optimise traffic flow, safety and driving comfort within the roundabout. A very promising technology for traffic simulation within the roundabout seems the one based on dynamic driving simulators.

Co-operative beam forming selection with energy balanced operation for wireless sensor network

To make the network more reliable and to address energy imbalance issues the cooperative selection of dynamic relay beamforming and energy balanced operation is proposed. Statistic Autonomous Beamforming (SAB) selection of nodes includes picking dynamic relay's that is used to transmit data. SAB requires very low feedback load, and this strategy is applied for multi user methods like Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). SAB based cooperative scheme is applied by the base station where maximum number of dynamic beams is selected for the active transmission. With the help of transmission power base station can increase the energy harvest at the receiving hub by focussing the power utilized for data transmission on dynamic relay beams. A close-form statistical distribution is derived to calculate the amount of energy harvested in the selected dynamic beams with respect to MIMO users. The performance trade off of average harvested energy, secrecy rate and residual energy of the dynamic relays and the sum rate of multiple MIMO users are analysed. The energy consumption for the proposed scheme is 28% better compared to the existing methods.

Nowadays, almost all applications use Internet of Things (IoT) to modernize their process of data communication. The area of smart cities is considered as an industry whose the exploitation of IoT is in constant increasing. Due to the specific requirements of the smart cities' applications, especially in terms of QoS (Quality of Services), IoT communications face multiple constraints. The limited resources, whether for devices or for communication links, is considered one important constraint. The frequent changes in the states and situations of devices and communication links make this constraint more complex. Considering this obstacle when designing communication algorithms for the IoT is an active research axis that is conducted in the IoT context. Given the unpredictable and uncertain nature of the situations that can be occurred in the network, it is important that these algorithms be adaptive and intelligent. The objective of the presented work in this paper is the proposition of a new communication solution, named IAAC-IoT (Intelligent and Adaptive algorithms for IoT communications), gathering adaptive and intelligent algorithms to improve the QoS and energy consumption within IoT. During the performance evaluation of the IAAC-IoT, we obtained satisfactory performance results in terms of QoS and energy efficiency.

Global communication may affect the scalability of some parallel applications. Message Passing Interface (MPI) provides some commonly used collective communication Application Programming Interface(API). Allreduce is one of the APIs that is mostly used on parallel applications. Small message Allreduce is useful for dot products and solving linear systems. This paper proposes a medium and small message Allreduce for the Tianhe series system. For intra-node reduction/broadcast, this paper proposed a cache-aware tree and shared memory implementation. Besides, this paper proposes broadcast merge and cache line awareness methods to improve performance further. For inter-node communication, this paper proposes zero event Remote Direct Memory Access(RDMA) to avoid event overhead on the Tianhe system. In addition, a zero event immediate-data RDMA(Imm-RDMA) is used to optimize small message RDMA. Through experiments, for 16384 MPI processes, GLEX Allreduce achieves 2.4-5.1 times speedup compared to MPI. Compared to other collective communication libraries on Infiniband(IB) and Omni-Path, GLEX_Allreduce achieves similar or better performance. © 2023 IEEE.

MIMO Cross-Layer Secure communication Algorithm for Cyber Physical Systems Based on Interference Strategies

In this paper, a detailed analysis of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) cross-layer secure communication algorithms in information-physical systems is investigated employing an interference strategy. A three-stage data-assisted channel estimation method is proposed in this paper for the acquisition of channel state information for complex jamming channels in large-scale MIMO two-layer systems. To implement the data-assisted scheme, assuming that there are no errors and no delay in the system, if the data detection and decoding data sequences are completed at a small cell base station, they are sent to the macro base station via a wired backhaul. Due to the sparsity of the channel at the macro base station after user grouping, a channel estimation algorithm based on optimal block orthogonal matching tracking(s) is proposed in the case where the downlink channel at the macro base station utilizes the decoded uplink data and known training sequences. The simulation results show that the data-assisted method proposed in this paper is effective in improving channel estimation accuracy. A machine learning algorithm is directly used to classify the channel difference or channel matrix to obtain the authentication results. In this paper, the scheme is first simulated using channel data from dynamic communication scenarios, its feasibility is analyzed, and the parameters in the scheme are compared, and the optimal scheme is the bagging tree authentication scheme using a 128-dimensional channel matrix as input. To address the interference problem caused by the dense arrangement of SAPs in heterogeneous networks and the unbalanced network load, large-scale MIMO techniques are introduced to reduce the downlink interference caused by the microcell boundary expansion in heterogeneous networks.

In this paper, we show that the hexagonal mesh networks developed in the early 1990s are a special case of the EJ networks that have been considered more recently. Using a node addressing scheme based on the EJ number system, we give a shortest path routing algorithm for hexagonal mesh networks. We also extend the known efficient one-to-all broadcasting algorithm on hexagonal mesh networks to algorithms for one-to-one personalized broadcasting, all-to-all broadcasting, and all-to-all personalized broadcasting algorithms. Their time complexity and optimality are analyzed.

Many communication tasks have been formulated as optimization problems that can be solved by iterative algorithms. However, these algorithms are usually computationally intensive. To enable real-time processing of communication algorithms, in this paper, we propose a new deep neural network (DNN) architecture for algorithm approximation. Based on the idea of deep unfolding, we expand the iterative algorithm into a cascade network structure of basic blocks, with each network block corresponding to an iteration. Then, instead of directly approximating each iteration through network layers, we introduce the multivariate polynomial regression (MPR) as a bridge between the iterations and layers for constructing the unfolded network blocks. Specifically, we use a multivariate polynomial to approximate an iteration of the original iterative algorithm, and further construct a shallow neural network with one hidden layer to realize the polynomial, where the order of the polynomial provides theoretical guidance for determining the size of the network and controls the tradeoff between the approximation accuracy and computation speed. As empirical justifications, we apply the proposed DNN architecture in approximating the classic WMMSE algorithm for wireless interference management, showing that the proposed approach can achieve a good approximation accuracy with a much faster computation speed.

Cache Line Aware Algorithm Design for Cache-Coherent Architectures

The increase in the number of cores per processor and the complexity of memory hierarchies make cache coherence key for programmability of current shared memory systems. However, ignoring its detailed architectural characteristics can harm performance significantly. In order to assist performance-centric programming, we propose a methodology to allow semi-automatic performance tuning with the systematic translation from an algorithm to an analytic performance model for cache line transfers. For this, we design a simple interface for cache line aware optimization, a translation methodology, and a full performance model that exposes the block-based design of caches to middleware designers. We investigate two different architectures to show the applicability of our techniques and methods: the many-core accelerator Intel Xeon Phi and a multi-core processor with a NUMA configuration (Intel Sandy Bridge). We use mathematical optimization techniques to tune synchronization algorithms to the microarchitectures, identifying three techniques to design and optimize data transfers in our model: single-use, single-step broadcast, and private cache lines.
