China's electrical grid has installed more than 2500 sets of phasor measurement unit (PMU), coveringalmost all the 500 kV and above and part of the 220 kVsubstations, whichinsureobservable of the ultra-high voltage power network and provide mass data for system analysis. However, PMU measurementsmay contain bad data and the precision of measurements especially phase need to be further improved. State estimation is an effective method to deal with data contaminated by noise and bias. Therefore, it's of great significance to study the PMU-only state estimation (POSE) problem. The real number equations based on the rectangular coordinate system and weighted least squares (WLS) algorithm are the general method to solve the POSE problem at present, which need to convertphasors into their real and imaginary parts, thusenlarging the size of the coefficient matrix whichdecreases the computational efficiency. In this paper, complex number equationsforthe POSEproblem areestablished and the complex number weighted least squares (CWLS) estimation modelis built to solve the equation directly in the complex domain which needs no phasor converting. The error characteristics of PMU measurements in the complex domain are analyzed in depth which give a guidance ofchoosing weightsand illustrate the robustness of the CWLS to phase. Testresultsdemonstratethe contrast analysis between the CWLS and the WLSfrom the perspectives of estimation time, estimation accuracyand adaptability to different error levels, which shows that the performances of the CWLSare better than the WLS. The robustness of the CWLS to phase is also showed in the tests.

A complex algorithm for Solving a Kind of Stochastic Programming

Considering that the probability distribution of random variables in stochastic programming usually has incomplete information due to a perfect sample data in many real applications, this paper discusses a class of two-stage stochastic programming problems modeling with maximum minimum expectation compensation criterion (MaxEMin) under the probability distribution having linear partial information (LPI). In view of the nondifferentiability of this kind of stochastic programming modeling, an improved complex algorithm is designed and analyzed. This algorithm can effectively solve the nondifferentiable stochastic programming problem under LPI through the variable polyhedron iteration. The calculation and discussion of numerical examples show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Convergence analysis of a twin-reference complex least-mean-squares algorithm

In many noise control applications, the noise is dominated by low frequencies and generated by several independent periodic sources. In such situations the tonal noise may be suppressed by using a narrowband multiple-reference feedforward controller. The performance characteristics of the control system, e.g., the convergence behavior and noise reduction are directly related to the controller adaptation rate as well as the frequency separation of the tonal components in the noise, i.e., the beat frequency. This paper treats the convergence performance of a complex least-mean-squares (LMS) algorithm using two reference signals. An analysis of its convergence behavior is presented as well as the results from computer simulations validating the convergence behavior. The convergence of the filter weights and the decrease rate of the squared error (the learning curve) for noise control applications are also discussed.

Although computational methods have historically been utilized by architecture companies, they are now becoming more and more common in popular constructions for automated process Digital Twin (DT) design, as-built assessment, and parametric simulation techniques. This study shows how workflow might well be utilized to converge on optimum and heuristic approaches to difficult issues and how optimization algorithms have the potential to help smart technology in assembly. In this study, two kinds were studied. The first involves a computational technique that has been applied to a difficult geometric problem in the manufacture of structural sheathing panels. The following illustration shows a computational process consisting of methods to automate the extraction and processing of Building Information Model (BIM) information for the output path shows significance. Learning from these examples shows how computer simulation should be effective for complex and repeated process development. Here, it must be demonstrated that computational techniques can effectively search for large-choice regions and detect costly development errors from the outset. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Optimum gear tooth geometry for minimum fillet stress using BEM and experimental verification with photoelasticity

This paper introduces the concept of nondimensional gear teeth to be used in gear stress minimization problems. The proposed method of modeling reduces the computational time significantly when compared to other existing methods by essentially reducing the total number of design variables. Instead of modeling the loaded gear tooth and running BEA to calculate the maximum root stress at every iterative step of the optimization procedure, the stress is calculated by interpolation of tabulated values, which were calculated previously by applying the BEM on nondimensional models corresponding to different combinations of the design parameters. The complex algorithm is used for the optimization and the root stresses of the optimum gears are compared with the stresses of the standard gears for the same transmitted torque. Reduction in stress up to 36.5% can be achieved in this way. This reduction in stress has been confirmed experimentally with two-dimensional photoelasticity.

A dynamic complex impedance imaging technique is developed with the aid of the linearized Kalman filter (LKF) for real-time reconstruction of the human chest. The forward problem is solved by an analytical method based on the separation of variables and Fourier series. The inverse problem is treated as a state estimation problem. The nonlinear measurement equation is linearized about the best homogeneous impedivity value as an initial guess, and the impedivity distribution is estimated with the aid of the Kalman estimator. The Kalman gain matrix is pre-computed and stored off-line to minimize the on-line computational time. Simulation and phantom experiment are reported to illustrate the reconstruction performances in the sense of spatio-temporal resolution in a simplified geometry of the human chest.

In this paper, a visual operation interface and a main program for computation are devoloped on the basis of constrained nonlinear complex optimization algorithm, Visual C programming language and parametric drawing techniques. They mainly help solve such problems as multi-state constraints and complexity of programs in optimal design of gravity dam section. The computing results show that the newly developed program is of high accuracy. While improving computation efficiency, it can also enhance human-computer interaction. Consideration on the unmanned surface vehicle (USV) rapidity, maneuverability and anti overturning resistance, this paper creates a synthetical optimization mathematical model of the new USV navigation performance, structure of a complex algorithm, preparation of the related software. Complete a number of optimization calculations, discuss the effects of weight and different speed on the optimization goal, and compared to the optimal performance of single genetic algorithm, hierarchical genetic algorithm and genetic chaotic hierarchical algorithm. The results show that the performance index weight and speed have significant influence on the optimization goal, and hierarchical genetic algorithm optimization performance is better.

A BFA-CM OPTIMIZATION LOG INTERPRETATION METHOD

It is difficult to calculate reservoir parameters of tight sand reservoirs using conventional interpretation methods, due to their complex lithology and variable pore structure. An optimization log interpretation method is able to take full advantage of the log data and geological information. Therefore, it is an effective method to evaluate tight sand reservoirs. In this study, in order to calculate the reservoir parameters of tight sand reservoirs, an appropriate interpretation model needed to be first established according to the reservoirs’ characteristics. Then, the interpretation parameters were chosen, and the specific form of the objective function was determined. Next, an optimization algorithm was adopted to search for the optimal solution. A bacterial foraging algorithm (BFA) is a newly developed algorithm which has strong global search capabilities. It simulates the behavior of the colon bacillus which swims with flagella for food in the human gut. However, since it slowly converges in the later part of the optimization, it was combined in this study with a complex algorithm (CM) for constituting a BFA-CM hybrid algorithm, in order to improve the precision and efficiency of the search process. Also in this study, the unknown reservoir parameters of the optimization log interpretation method were determined using a genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), BFA algorithm, and BFA-CM hybrid algorithm, respectively. The calculation results showed that, when compared with the GA and PSO, the errors of the porosity and the component content calculated by the BFA were minimal. However, the calculation result curves were found to be inconsistent. Therefore, by combining a BFA algorithm with a CM algorithm to constitute a BFA-CM hybrid algorithm for calculating reservoir parameters, the accuracy was improved, and the curves became more stable. A NEW SERIAL METHOD FOR SEARCHING THE OPTIMUM OPERATING-CONDITIONS OF A TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS

A new program, named ANTIcomplex, has been specially written for searching the optimum conditions of a technological process. The algorithm is based on an iterative procedure with, at each step, a random sampling for a better exploration of the hyperspace of the parameters. Since the process is considered as a 'black box', the program operates by successive reductions of the variation domains with a strategy derived from some function optimization (complex). This approach is very flexible and the experimenter can stop the investigation at any series of experiments according to the desired accuracy for the optimum region. This program has been successfully tested on several real processes. This paper gives a complete description of the approach together with two illustrations on simulated processes.
