Further study on constructing bent functions outside the completed Maiorana-McFarland class

In the mid-sixties, Rothaus introduced the notion of bent function and later presented a secondary construction of bent functions (building new bent functions from already defined ones), called Rothaus' construction. In Zhang et al. 2017 ('Constructing bent functions outside the Maiorana-Mcfarland class using a general form of Rothaus,' IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2017, vol. 63, no. 8, pp. 5336-5349.') provided two constructions of bent functions using a general form of Rothaus and showed that the obtained classes lie outside the completed Maiorana-McFarland (MM) class. In this study, the authors propose two similar methods for constructing bent functions outside the completed MM class but with significantly simplified sufficient conditions compared to those in Zhang et al. 2017. These simplified conditions do not induce any serious restrictions on the choice of permutations used in the construction apart from a simple requirement on their algebraic degree and the request that the component functions of one permutation do not admit linear structures. This enables us to generate a huge class of bent functions lying outside the completed MM class. Even more importantly, they prove that the new classes of bent functions are affine inequivalent to the bent functions in Zhang et al. 2017.

The principle of representing continuous complex-valued functions by their decomposition into three positive-valued ones is proposed for the generation of complex reference functions for a joint transform correlator. Three basic approaches involving coherent and incoherent superposition of the component functions are analyzed. The potentials and limitations of the techniques are discussed.

Interpolating moving least-squares methods for fitting potential energy surfaces: A strategy for efficient automatic data point placement in high dimensions

An accurate and efficient method for automated molecular global potential., energy surface (PES) construction and fitting is demonstrated. An interpolating moving least-squares (IMLS) method is developed with the flexibility to fit various ab initio data: (1) energies, (2) energies and gradients, or (3) energies, gradients, and Hessian data. The method is automated and flexible so that a PES can be optimally generated for trajectories, spectroscopy, or other applications. High efficiency is achieved by employing local IMLS in which fitting coefficients are stored at a limited number of expansion points, thus eliminating the need to perform weighted least-squares fits each time the potential is evaluated. An automatic point selection scheme based on the difference in two successive orders of IMLS fits is used to determine where new ab initio data need to be calculated for the most efficient fitting of the PES. A simple scan of the coordinate is shown to work well to identify these maxima in one dimension, but this search strategy scales poorly with dimension. We demonstrate the efficacy of using conjugate gradient minimizations on the difference surface to locate optimal data point placement in high dimensions. Results that are indicative of the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability are presented for a one-dimensional model potential (Morse) as well as for three-dimensional (HCN), six-dimensional (HOCH), and nine-dimensional (CH4) molecular PESs. A new class of nonlinear mappings is introduced which contains, in the linear case, the strictly and irreducibly diagonally dominant matrices as well as other classes of matrices introduced by Duffin and Walter. We then extend some of the properties of the above-mentioned matrices to these weakly $\Omega $-diagonally dominant functions, and point out their connection to the M- and P-functions studied by Rheinboldt, and Moré and Rheinboldt, respectively. Finally, new convergence theorems for the nonlinear Jacobi and Gauss–Seidel iterations are presented.

We consider here the problem of solving a system of n nonlinear equations in n variables, when n is large, but the underlying mapping has a sparse Jacobian, and is also structured. We present a homotopy, having a variable dimension feature, whose implementation in a PL algorithm effectively exploits the sparsity of the Jacobian and separability of the mapping. The implementation given here uses the Cholesky factorization and is thus stable. An application to a large system is also discussed.

Some general aspects of the reliability of coherent systems whose components are independent, but not necessarily of the same reliability are explored. Upper and lower bounds, which can be computed directly from the minimal paths and minimal cuts of a system, are found for system reliability. The Moore-Shannon inequality is extended to the case of unequal component reliabilities, permitting a simple demonstration of the S-shapedness properties of system reliability functions.

We show that many infinite classes of permutations over finite fields can be constructed via translators with a large choice of parameters. We first characterize some functions having linear translators, based on which several families of permutations are then derived. Extending the results of [9], we give in several cases the compositional inverse of these permutations. The connection with complete permutations is also utilized to provide further infinite classes of permutations. Moreover, we propose new tools to study permutations of the form x bar right arrow x+(x(Pm) -x + delta)(s) and a few infinite classes of permutations of this form are proposed. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. The reviev concerns the newer aspects of plant cell wall construction and modification, including the structure and biosynthesis of basic components during the cell growth and differentiation, as well as their breakdown. The special interest is given to the enzymes incorporated into the cell wall and their specific activity in the biosynthesis and degradation processes, but also in the transfer of glycosyl fragments (blocks), which is connected with its thickening, softening, constructing the channels a.o. New aspects of lignification and specialisation of particular wall fragments, playing various functions, such as fruit ripening, dropping down leaves, fruits and flowers, breaking the dormancy, and others, are also presented.

RECEPTORAL AND POST-RECEPTORAL VISUAL PROCESSES IN RECOVERY FROM CHROMATIC ADAPTATION

The time course of recovery from chromatic adaptation in human vision was tracked by determining the wavelength of light that appears uniquely yellow (neither red nor green) both before and after exposure to yellowish green and yellowish red adapting lights. Recovery is complete within 5 min after steady light exposure. After exposure to the alternating repeated sequence 10 s light/10 s dark, the initial magnitude of the aftereffect is reduced but recovery is retarded. The results are interpreted in terms of 2 processes located at different levels in the hierarchical organization of the visual system. One is a change in the balance of cone receptor sensitivities;the second is a shift in the equilibrium baseline between opposite-signed responses of the red/green channel at the opponent-process neural level. The baseline-shift mechanism is effective in the condition in which repeated input signals originating at the receptors are of sufficient strength to activate the system effectively. Hence, this process is revealed in the alternating adaptation condition when the receptors undergo partial recovery after each light exposure, but receptor adaptation during continued steady light exposure effectively protects the subsequent neural systems from continued strong activation.
