component-based software engineering (CBSE) is a branch of software engineering that emphasizes the separation of concerns with respect to the wide-ranging functionality available throughout a given software system. The main advantage of CBSE is separation of components. A single component only focus on a single task or a related collection of tasks which allowing software developer to reuse the component for other use-cases. By using this approach, software developers can focus on single components rather than dealing with complex monolithic source code. Several approaches have already been developed in order to achieve ideal CBSE. The earliest implementation was UNIX pipe and redirect, while the newer approach including CORBA, XML-RPC, and REST. Unfortunately those approaches are either too complex or lack of features. Therefore, a simple language-agnostic framework, so called Chimera, was developed in this research. Chimera was built on top of ***. This framework allows developer to build pipe flow in a chain (a YAML formatted file) as well as defining global variables. Compared to UNIX named and unnamed pipe, this format is easier and more flexible. On the other hand, unlike XML-RPC, REST, and CORBA, Chimera is much simpler. HTTP protocol is only required for distributed computing scenario. Nor it require the components to be aware that they works on top of the framework.

Contextual abstraction in a type system for component-based high performance computing platforms

HTS (Hash Type System) is a type system designed for component-based high performance computing (CBHPC) platforms, aimed at reconciling portability, modularity by separation of concerns, a high-level of abstraction and high performance. Portability and modularity are properties of component-based systems that have been extensively validated. For improving the performance of HPC applications, HTS introduces an automated approach for dynamically discovering, loading and binding parallel components tuned for the characteristics of the parallel computing platforms where the application will execute. To do so, it is based on contextual abstraction, where the performance of components that encapsulate parallel computations, communication patterns and data structures may be tuned according to the features of parallel computing platforms and the application requirements. In turn, for providing a higher level of abstraction in parallel programming, HTS supports an expressive approach for skeleton-based programming. A study of the safety properties of HTS using a calculus of component composition has provided solid foundations for the design of configuration languages for the safe specification and deployment of parallel components. The features of HTS are validated with three case studies that exercise the programming techniques behind contextual abstraction, including skeletons and performance tuning. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Integration of a preemptive priority based scheduler in the Palladio Workbench

This paper presents an extension to the Palladio component Model (PCM), together with a new performance analysis infrastructure that supports the fixed-priority preemptive scheduling policy. The proposed solution allows modelling and analysing component-based embedded software applications that are defined using a specific pattern in which each component is executed by a task with a specific priority. The infrastructure is also capable of analysing the system performance when the tasks access shared resources, using either immediate priority ceiling, or priority inheritance protocols, in order to avoid the priority inversion problem. The paper shows the set of rules that enable the transformation between an application, compliant with the proposed design pattern, and its corresponding PCM. Finally, a use case example based on a real system, and a set of tests that validates the analysis infrastructure, are provided. This system is the on-board software of a satellite payload that is currently being developed by the Space Research Group of the University of Alcala. This software is in charge of managing the Instrument Control Unit of the Energetic Particle Detector, which will be launched as part of the Solar Orbiter mission of the European Space Agency and United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). software component decision-making: In-house, OSS, COTS or outsourcing - A systematic literature review

Context: component-based software systems require decisions on component origins for acquiring components. A component origin is an alternative of where to get a component from. Objective: To identify factors that could influence the decision to choose among different component origins and solutions for decision-making (For example, optimization) in the literature. Method: A systematic review study of peer-reviewed literature has been conducted. Results: In total we included 24 primary studies. The component origins compared were mainly focused on in-house vs. COTS and COTS vs. OSS. We identified 11 factors affecting or influencing the decision to select a component origin. When component origins were compared, there was little evidence on the relative (either positive or negative) effect of a component origin on the factor. Most of the solutions were proposed for in-house vs. COTS selection and time, cost and reliability were the most considered factors in the solutions. Optimization models were the most commonly proposed technique used in the solutions. Conclusion: The topic of choosing component origins is a green field for research, and in great need of empirical comparisons between the component origins, as well of how to decide between different combinations of them. Modern software systems are growing ever more complex, and the component-based software engineering(CBSE) is viewed as an opportunity to deal with the increasing complexity of measurement and control system. This paper analyzes the task profile of measurement and control system(GMCS) and discusses the component-based design methods. The paper submits a novel model called CV-MDN for software of GMCS that includes five parts: user controller, display views, domain model, data services and network service. The five parts provide cooperation method with software buses. Finally, the paper introduces the architecture of software design and it analyzes the software system functions. The CV-MDN model can be formed a general method for design of GMCS.

Hitch Hiker 2.0: a binding model with flexible data aggregation for the Internet-of-Things

Wireless communication plays a critical role in determining the lifetime of Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems. Data aggregation approaches have been widely used to enhance the performance of IoT applications. Such approaches reduce the number of packets that are transmitted by combining multiple packets into one transmission unit, thereby minimising energy consumption, collisions and congestion. However, current data aggregation schemes restrict developers to a specific network structure or cannot handle multi-hop data aggregation. In this paper, we propose Hitch Hiker 2.0, a component binding model that provides support for multi-hop data aggregation. Hitch Hiker uses component meta-data to discover remote component bindings and to construct a multi-hop overlay network within the free payload space of existing traffic flows. Hitch Hiker 2.0 provides end-to-end routing of low-priority traffic while using only a small fraction of the energy of standard communication. This paper extends upon our previous work by incorporating new mechanisms for decentralised route discovery and providing additional application case studies and evaluation. We have developed a prototype implementation of Hitch Hiker for the LooCI component model. Our evaluation shows that Hitch Hiker consumes minimal resources and that using Hitch Hiker to deliver low-priority traffic reduces energy consumption by up to 32 %.

本文介绍了一种针对现有工业机械臂基于PC控制应用程序系统的设计和实施研究。该系统基于OROCOS组件化框架实现实时功能软件模块及软件模块间交互,加快了开发进程。由于现已有诸多工具开发平台都包含有相关的函数库和组件模块集,本研究的重点聚焦于借助工具平台所需采取的关键步骤。提出并描述了将直接寻址操作PCI采集卡的I/O外围硬件封装成可复用组件的方法作为解决Linux中因缺乏对设备驱动程序的支持而导致I/O硬件存在长期挑战的新方案。该方案可以实现全功能的控制应用程序,提供标准操控功能模块、在线分析工具,兼容基于传感器的扩展功能。此外,所提出的方案是基于通用商业化的成品硬件,具有很好的复用性。第1章试着阐述本研究工作的发展背景,特别是机器人技术在人类生活中从基于SLAM的扫地机器人到自动驾驶汽车而越来越广泛地应用的新兴趋势。围绕基于PC的应用系统,出现了以促进模块化、构建共享功能和算法模块的函数库和软件架构,以及活跃的机器人在线社区;本研究在兴起的广泛应用发展趋势和活跃社区之间构建了一个连接渠道。在此背景下,对组件化软件工程(CBSE)模式下基于PC的控制系统的未来发展进行了展望。基于这些背景介绍形成和决定了本研究工作的主要相关内容。第2章主要分为两个部分:第一部分深入研究基于PC环境进行开发的一些基本原则和实时编程范式。通过大量细节的描述该部分主题,一方面为了理解和介绍应用开发的具体实施过程,另一方面为了理解和介绍采用这种实时架构去隐藏一些细节的通用实用性;也努力阐释了实时编程中遇到的常见术语和实施过程中的共性问题。第二部分主要详细介绍了Linux系统下PCI硬件驱动程序实施的错综复杂性,因为海量的应用都需要将硬件I/O功能模块封装成通用且可重复使用的OROCOS软件组件。鉴于此,更深入的理解PCI驱动实现过程而非简单了解概念被认为是至关重要的。系统的设备识别、驱动注册、设备驱动定位、初始化及清除、内存及I/O权限等也进行了研究。实例中采用的符号均遵循Linux变量命名区分大小写和标准“foo/bar”隐藏参数规则。第3章则着重介绍了与本研究工作直接相关的OROCOS框架搭建方面内容,其主要包括:工具设置和依赖项配置、架构和操控力学、选择和配置组件、数据传输端口、脚本处理组件和组件开发等。第4章在继续介绍部分系统内容的基础上,深入探讨系统的机械和电子电气系统及其所包括的关键元件,数字输出和报警锁存器电路在接收控制应用程序逻辑中发挥的中心作用等。之后同样深入广泛地谈论了依照第2章中概括的架构PCII/O采集卡的具体实施细节,并进一步重点介绍了所开发的控制应用。第5章主要研究软件工程在综合分析、设计、开发和测试周期等环节所需考虑的问题并讨论了这些因素对OROLab应用整体性的影响。第6章进一步探讨了其实施情况,第7章从控制系统方面进一步深入.最后第8章呈现了操作和测试参数结果,并进行了简短的讨论和总结

Companies developing software are constantly striving to gain or keep their competitive advantage on the market. To do so, they should balance what to develop themselves and what to get from elsewhere, which may be software components or software services. These strategic decisions need to be aligned with business objectives and the capabilities and constraints of possible options. These sourcing options include: in-house, COTS, open source and outsourcing. The objective of this paper is to present an approach to support decision-makers in selecting appropriate types of origins in a specific case that maximizes the benefits of the selected business strategy. The approach consists of three descriptive models, as well as a decision process and a knowledge repository. The three models are a decision model that comprises three cornerstones (stakeholders, origins and criteria) and is based on a taxonomy for formulating decision models in this context, and two supporting models (property models and context models).

By focussing on Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), this paper investigates how component-based principles and practices are used and support the activity of architecting CPS. For doing so, by running a systematic process, we selected 49 primary studies from the most important publishers search engines. Those papers have been analyzed and their contents classified according to the Classification Framework for component Models proposed in our previous work. The results show that the main concerns handled by CPS component models are those of integration, performance, and maintainability. The instruments to satisfy those concerns, while architecting CPS, are ad-hoc software/system architecture, model-based approaches, architectural and component languages, and design. The IEC 61499 standard with its functions block is remarkably used to drive the work on six papers. Java is the most frequently used programming language used for implementing the components. components are deployed mostly at compile time. Interfaces are almost equally distributed into port-based and operation-based. Overall, the results show a transition of technologies and approaches used in Embedded Systems to CPS, but still lacking methods for integrated architecting, in particular in incremental development.

Refactoring has been proposed as a de facto behavior-preserving mean to eliminate bad smells. However manually determining and performing useful refactorings is a though challenge because seemingly useful refactorings can improve some aspect of a software while making another aspect worse. Therefore it has been proposed to view object-oriented automated refactoring as a search-based technique. Nevertheless the review of the literature shows that automated refactoring of component-based software has not been investigated yet. Recently a catalogue of component-relevant bad smells has been proposed in the literature but there is a lack of component-relevant refactorings. In this paper we propose detection rules for component-relevant bad smells as well as a catalogue of component-relevant refactorings. Then we rely on these two elements to propose a search-based approach for automated refactoring of component-based software systems by detecting and eliminating bad smells. Finally, we experiment our approach on a medium-sized component-based software and we assess the efficieny and accuracy of our approach.
