In order to implement the real-time video compression system the compression algorithm should be improved and also need a reasonable control framework which brings no additional overhead and efficient to use of the hardware resources. With the perspective of improve the degree of parallelism of the on-chip peripherals and the core, this paper analyzed the disadvantages of the ping-pong buffers pipeline mechanism at first, and the introduced a improved control framework based on dual-core DSP polling control and ping-pong buffers pipeline to avoid that disadvantages. A H.264 based video encoder used this control framework was implemented on the platform of ADSP-BF561, and the experimental results show that the framework can meet the video compression system's real-time capability and reliability requirements by reducing the coding time falling the frame loss frequency and improving the systems work efficiency.

We present the performances of compression analysis for the phase image resulted from different phase unwrapping algorithms applied to fringe projection profilometry. Since three-dimensional (3D) surface shape information of objects can be extracted from the phase maps of objects, the phase unwrapping is critical to many 3D applications for obtaining accurate phase. To reduce the size of storage and processing for 3D data, these phase images are fed to the compression algorithms. The efficiency is evaluated and compared with compression ratio and normalized root mean square (NRMS) error. Our simulation and experimental results show that the H.264/AVC codec method can maintain low NRMS error while with higher compression ratio than the other methods investigated in this paper.

Dictionary-based lossless data compression algorithms mainly replace a frequent data pattern in the inputted data to a compressed symbol, and to decompress vice versa. The mechanism potentially has an overhead problem regarding the number of symbol matchings in the table. This work focuses on a technique to reduce the number of searches in the dictionary using a bank separation technique. This poster presentation shows design and implementation of the technique applied to LCT-DLT.

The problems of measurement signal compression recorded under long-term monitoring conditions are presented in the paper. The functional quality of lossy compression algorithms in metrological applications depends strongly on the data stream dynamic properties. This was the reason for presenting a proposal to use synthetic test signals for investigating and classification compression algorithms. Application of such signals to study the lossy compression algorithms makes the results obtained this way independent of the shape of an individual signal and makes them obligatory for the whole class of measurement signals. By changing parameters of synthetic signals, the functioning of algorithms can be investigated within certain intervals of parameter values, and not, as it is for real signals, for single values of these parameters. A method for generating synthetic test signals for testing metrological properties of lossy compression methods allowing unification of the obtained results is presented in the paper. The results of exemplary simulation experiments are presented.

In Internet of Things (IoT), numerous and diverse types of sensors generate a plethora of data that needs to be stored and processed with minimum loss of information. This demands efficient compression mechanisms where loss of information is minimized. Hence data generated by diverse sensors with different signal features require optimum balance between compression gain and information loss. This paper presents a unique analysis of contemporary lossy compression algorithms applied on real field sensor data with different sensor dynamics. The aim of the work is to classify the compression algorithms based on the signal characteristics of sensor data and to map them to different sensor data types to ensure efficient compression. The present work is the stepping stone for a future recommender system to choose the preferred compression techniques for the given type of sensor data.

In this work, we analyze the usefulness of the normalized compression distance (NCD) as a similarity measure to bird species identification through audio samples. As a first approach we review the effect of different compression methods from 7z and CompLearn Toolkit, over subsets of bird audio samples obtained from the xeno-canto database. The performance of each compression method was measured applying hierarchical clustering and projection mapping to the distance matrix, and later on, measuring the quality of both of them. Our results are very promising and show that the identification of a bird species among multiples audio samples is possible through NCD-basedon clustering.

The ECG signal conveys desirable characteristics for biometric identification (universality, uniqueness, measurability, acceptability and circumvention avoidance). However, based on the current literature review, there are no results that evaluate the number of heartbeats needed for personal identification. This information is undoubtedly useful when building a biometric identification system - any system should ask participants to provide data for identification, using the smallest time interval that is possible, for practical reasons. In this paper, we aim at exploring this topic using a measure of similarity based on the Kolmogorov Complexity, called the Normalized Relative compression (NRC). To attain the goal, we built finite-context models to represent each individual a compression-based approach that has been shown successful for several other pattern recognition applications like image similarity, DNA sequences or authorship attribution.

Adaptive resource management uses resource allocation mechanisms to guarantee a minimum availability of required resources to applications. In this paper, we propose an intuitive and low overhead (linear complexity) bandwidth compression algorithm. Low overhead is necessary for online deployment and intuition provides for easy understanding of the solution. The resource allocation is proportional to the resource demand and importance of applications, hence providing for fairness and increased overall quality of service (QoS). Our compression algorithm is optimal and we present a qualitative analysis of the intuition, which is based on an analogy with pendulum systems.

In section I, some aspects of an electrical energy quality estimator-analyzer are briefly introduced, and a notion of how data compression could augment the process of developing such a device, is presented. In subsequent sections, after a short introduction to data compression algorithms, a variety of Huffman code is introduced. The paper is concluded with a summary of an experiment, testing the efficiency of such a code, when using an offline-generated dictionary to compress measured voltage signals.
