This paper contains a review of objective measurements for VoIP compression algorithms. An overview of VoIP networks is presented along with a description of the main characteristics of ITU-T G.729 and G.723.1 standards. PSQM, PAMS, and PESQ measurements for voice clarity are reviewed, and an explanation of the application of perceptual models for the objective measurement of voice clarity is presented. The factors that affect voice quality, delay, echo, and clarity, are discussed briefly.

It aimed that traditional text compression methods are using on compression of DNA sequence in this study. It has seen that the random short repeats are vital and it has examined their posivite impact for compression. A pipelined system with multiple algorithms running sequentially for compression. How the contribution of the algorithm to the system was investigated and especially the effect of the BWT on compression was shown. Results show that the pipeline system was found unable to catch the compression success of the Huffman coding alone.

This paper presents a new technique which allows interactive optimization of video compression algorithms using massively parallel computers such as the CRAY T3D. This work aims to exploit as much as possible the parallel nature of digital image processing algorithms to obtain almost real-time computing with the flexibility of a software implementation. Thanks to this low computation time, interactive tools have been developed which allow easy and fast visual evaluation of image quality. This leads to significant productivity gain when developing new video compression techniques. Our approach has been validated on advanced region-based video compression algorithms. The interactive facilities offered by the proposed technique permit the accurate optimization of the algorithm parameters in few minutes, where several days were previously needed. Depending on the complexity of the compression algorithms, 8-12 images are compressed, decompressed and visualized per second.

Data logging applications, such as those deployed in satellite launchers to acquire telemetry data, may require compression algorithms to cope with large amounts of data as well as limited storage and communication capabilities. When commercial-off-the-shelf hardware components are used to implement such applications, radiation-induced soft errors may occur, especially during the last stages of the launcher cruise, potentially affecting the algorithm execution. The purpose of this work is to analyze two compression algorithms using fault injection to evaluate their robustness against soft errors. The main contribution of the work is the analysis of the compression algorithm susceptibility by attacking their data structures (also referred as program variables) rather than the memory elements of the computing platform in charge of the algorithm execution. This approach is agnostic of the downstream implementation details. Instead, the intrinsic robustness of compression algorithms can be evaluated quickly, and system-level decisions can be taken before the computing platform is finalized.

This paper presents two new algorithms for point compression for elliptic curves defined over F 2m , m odd. The first algorithm works for curves with Tr(a) = 1 and offers computational advantages over previous methods. The second algorithm is based on the λ representation of an elliptic point. The proposed algorithms require m bits to compress an elliptic point and can be used for all random binary curves recommended by NIST.

This paper presents a data compression algorithm capable of significantly reducing the amounts of information contained in multispectral and hyperspectral images. The loss of information ranges from a perceptually lossless level, achieved at 20-30:1 compression ratios, to a one where exploitation of the images is still possible (over 100:1 ratios). A one-dimensional transform coder removes the spectral redundancy, and a two-dimensional wavelet transform removes the spatial redundancy of multispectral images. The transformed images are subsequently divided into active regions that contain significant wavelet coefficients. Each active block is then hierarchically encoded using multidimensional bitmap trees. Application of reversible histogram equalization methods on the spectral bands can significantly increase the compression/distortion performance. Landsat Thematic Mapper data are used to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.< >

In the last few years, the number and impact of security attacks over the Internet have been continuously increasing. Since it seems impossible to guarantee complete protection to a system by means of the "classical" prevention mechanisms, the use of Intrusion Detection Systems has emerged as a key element in network security. In this paper we address the problem considering some techniques for detecting network anomalies. Our approach is based on the use of different compression algorithms for detecting anomalies in the network traffic running over TCP. In more detail we take into account the use of three different compression algorithms, based on distinct approaches, namely: Huffman coding, Dynamic Markov Coding, and Lempel-Ziv-Welch algorithm. The proposed methods are based on the consideration that the entropy represents a lower bound to the compression rate that we can obtain, and that the more redundant the data are and the better we can compress them. The performance analysis, presented in this paper, demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is one testing method for measuring electrical activity of heart. ECG is the graphical representation of the electrical signal generated from heart. Heart is an organ of human which pump blood for the entire body. It require huge amount of data to store and transmit these ECG signals. So it is necessary for compression of the ECG signals. In few last years, many algorithms have evolved to compress the ECG signals, in that four algorithms such as Amplitude Zone Time Epoch Coding algorithm (AZTEC), Turning Point (TP), compression by using Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Backward difference and compression by using Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) are implemented and explained detail. The performance of all the algorithms are analyzed by using two parameters namely, Percent Root means square Difference (PRD) and compression Ratio (CR). The CR and PRD are calculated for all 48 ECG records from the database of MIT-BIH arrhythmia. Finally the CR and PRD values are compared with all the four algorithms. The experimental result indicates that the compression by EMD gives better CR and PRD compare to all other methods.

During 1987 and 1988, a joint group of ISO and CCITT has worked to create a world standard for data compression of still-frame color continuous-tone images. During this period, the adaptive discrete cosine transform (ADCT) was selected for final refinement from 12 proposed algorithms. Because the standard is required to provide either lossless or lossy compression, subjective image quality testing procedures were used extensively in the selection process. Each algorithm compressed test pictures to predefined bit rates, and the quality of the resulting images was evaluated using a modification of the CCIR 500 television quality evaluation procedures. The authors describe the perceptual test procedures and results which led to selection of the ADCT.< >

An experimental comparative study of data compression algorithms is investigated for enhancing energy efficiency in low-powered smart meters. Data compression is able to reduce the RF communication time. We also propose a new lossless compression algorithm to achieve the best tradeoff between the compression ratio and computational costs. The performance of our proposed Run-Length Binary Encoding (RLBE) algorithm is compared to those obtained with other lossless compression algorithms: Huffman coding, Even-Rodeh, Exponential-Golomb, Lempel-Ziv Welch, Fibonacci coding, and the hybrid Bzip2 algorithm. The energy optimization in data transmission has been achieved under different operating conditions. The performance of each compression algorithms has been verified experimentally with real metering datasets from industrial and domestic cases.
