The design of the speed controlsystem for a hydroelectric power unit, connected to a local grid is investigated. Manual design methods are limited to very simple process models. If more adequate models are to be need routinely, an interactive computer-aidedcontrolsystemdesign procedure is necessary. It is designed to adapt the regulator parameters off-line by an efficient frequency domain method and to produce a two-level feedforward self-tuning speed controlsystem.

At the First IFAC Workshop on Periodic systems (Como, Italy, 2001), a state of the art survey of computational methods for periodic systems has been presented (Varga and Van Dooren, 2001). This contribution continues this survey by presenting the main achievements in this field since 2001. Besides many foreseen developments mentioned in 2001 as open problems, important new developments took place as general algorithms for analysis of periodic descriptor systems, solution of periodic Riccati equations, or computational methods for continuous-time periodic systems.

The paper describes a new approach to examining computeraidedcontrolsystems design (CACSD). Its main idea is that the exam is a competition meaning that the winning student gets the best mark and go on. The aim of the competition is set by the professor and the students have to design a controller to achieve the best possible result they can. Three competition subjects, those used in the last three years of CACSD education at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, are given next. Their mathematical models and interfaces to the controller designed by students are then presented. In all three cases, the criterion for the competition was the shortest time. The paper concludes with our experiences with the course and by presenting the distribution of results.

Paper gives method for calculating coefficients of the algorithm. Theoretical results are experimentally tested on certain electra-pneumatic servo system. Comparison of simulated and experimental results are presented. Dans cet ouvrage on a présenté l'algorythme digital discret, basé sur la modulation en large. L'algorythme est dérivé à partir de l'algorythme de commande intégral continu. Les résultats théoriques ont été vérifiés de façon expérimentale sur un système servo électro-pneumatique. Finishing is one of the fundamental steps of textile production and still, nowadays, it largely depends on empirical knowledge. Aim of finishing processes is to impart the required functional properties to the fabric and, in particular, decatizing is the process that lends the fabrics dimensional stability, enhances the luster, and improves the so-called fabric hand, corresponding to the sense of touching a textile. In order to properly treat the textile while minimizing the process energy consumption, suitable decatizing operating conditions, such as air temperature and humidity in the steaming section, have to be set. In this paper, because of the limited knowledge of certain process parameters and the difficulty of developing, implementing, and using effective a-priori process models, the problem of determining the set-points for the main controlled process variables is formulated as a constrained optimization problem and this is faced by means of a model-free approach. More precisely, we consider a constrained Extremum Seeking control (ESC) scheme, using a geometric approach. In this preliminary study, first, we develop a Matlab-based simulation environment for the textile decatizing process and then we exploit it to design and test the ESC scheme. The in silico results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
