New energy concepts such as Distributed Power Generation are changing the face of electric distribution and transmission. Power electronics researchers try to apply new electronic controller solutions enabling the implementation of new and more complex control algorithms. This paper presents the design, implementation and test of the Field-Program m able Gate Array (FPGA) tasks of a novel real-time controller for a NPC (Neutral Point Clamped) (three-level) multilevel converter. The controller is based on a floating-point Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and a FPGA, by operating in a cooperative way. The proposed system is instantiated to the next system: a 150 kVA back-to-back three-level NPC VSC (Voltage Source Converter) for wind turbine applications.

Two genetic programming-based approaches are proposed for continuous-time process control design. The first approach uses a network of interconnected continuous-time elementary dynamic building blocs with a specific table-based representation of individuals. In the second approach the control algorithm is represented as a recurrent function of discrete-time variables with the tree representation of individuals. Both approaches are demonstrated on controller design examples, which are compared with the genetic algorithm-based PID controller design.

In this paper, a predictive Direct Torque Control strategy with constant switching frequency of Brushless Doubly Fed Machine is presented. Firstly, the classical Direct Torque Control strategy for Brushless Doubly Fed Machine has been developed, obtaining the voltage vector table. The vector voltage table has been developed analyzing the flux and torque derivates for each voltage vector as a function of control winding flux angle. In order to employ constant switching frequency, predictive Direct Torque Control is applied. Reduced torque ripple strategy has been implemented to improve the behavior at constant switching frequency. Simulation results show effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

In this paper, we propose a combined SPIHT/OFDM coding scheme for transmission of image/video over wireless fading channels. The proposed system implements a rate control algorithm as the image coding scheme and an adaptive modulation OFDM system as the communication coding scheme. We evaluate the system over uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channel. Simulation results for Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) of the received image at different rates are presented which demonstrate the contribution of our algorithm over this challenging channel.

This project is concerned with non-convectional direct stator winding slot cooling using water. The aim is to find optimal algorithm for control of water cooling. The control algorithms are tested on the experimental device, which is part of real synchronous machine with permanent magnets. The thermal model was built as a base for pump control algorithm model of a machine without thermal sensors. The Thermal model is possible used as predictor of machine heating in real time. In order to test control algorithms for DC and AC motors, under a variable speed configuration, is necessary to provide a regulated load torque. Moreover, it is desirable to adjust on-line this quantity in order to simulate practical scenarios and nonlinear loads. Thus, with this objective in mind, the design and closed-loop torque control strategies for an absorbing dynamometer are detailed in this paper. This device is constructed using a permanent-magnet DC motor and a two-quadrant DC-DC chopper, and it is designed to operate independently of the motor velocity orientation. Two nonlinear control schemes are presented to regulate accurately the torque provided by the dynamometer. Finally, simulation and experimental results are illustrated for a 2HP DC motor test-bed.

This paper considers a new control algorithm for robot with elastic joints. The proposed algorithm requires only position signals measurements. This algorithm is an extension of the control algorithm proposed by Loria and Ortega in [10]. We have assumed that model in [10] has in addition dynamic friction components on both link and motor sides. We have incorporated harmonic drives into our system. We have developed for the proposed model of manipulator an adaptive version of the control algorithm based on Lyapunov stability theory. This algorithm ensures that the tracking error posses desirable convergence property: semiglobal convergence to an arbitrarily small neighbourhood of zero in the presence of bounded disturbance.

Traffic engineering is a network management technique which routes traffic towhere bandwidth is available in the network to achieve QoS agreements between currentand future demands and the available network resources. Multi-path routing has beenproven to be a more efficient TE mechanism than Shortest Path First (SPF) routing interms of proffit maximization and resource usage optimization. However the identifficationof set of paths over which traffic is forwarded from source to the destination and thedistribution of traffic among these paths are two issues that have been widely addressedby the IP community but remain an open issue for the emerging generation IP *** upon different frameworks, this thesis revisits the issue of multi-path routing topresent and evaluate the performance of different traffic splitting mechanisms to achieveQoS routing in Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs). Three main contributions are identified in this thesis. First, we extend an optimizationmodel that used the M/M/1 queueing model on a simple network consistingof a single source-destination pair by using the M/M/s queueing model on a general networkconsisting of several source-destination pairs. Nas Ciências Agronômicas, encontram-se várias situações em que são observadas diversas variáveis respostas nas parcelas ou unidades experimentais. Nestas situações, um caso de interesse prático à experimentação agronômica é o que considera a construção de regiões de similaridade entre as parcelas para a discriminação entre os grupos experimentais e ou para a classificação de novas unidades experimentais em uma dessas regiões. Os métodos de classificação ou discriminação exigem, para sua utilização prática, uma quantidade considerável de retenção de informação da estrutura de variabilidade dos dados e, principalmente, alta fidedignidade e competência nas alocações de novos indivíduos nos grupos, mostradas nas distribuições corretas destes indivíduos. Existem vários procedimentos para medir o grau de decisão correta (acurácia) das informações fornecidas pelos métodos classificatórios. Praticamente, a totalidade deles utilizam a probabilidade de classificação errônea como o indicador de qualidade, sendo alguns destes freqüentistas (probabilidade estimada pela freqüência relativa de ocorrências - métodos não paramétricos) e outros baseados nas funções densidade de probabilidade das populações (métodos paramétricos). A principal diferença entre esses procedimentos é a conceituação dada ao cálculo da probabilidade de classificação errônea. Why is the sky blue? Why is grass green? What determines the color of human skin? Questions such as these are increasingly important in the development of the next generation algorithms for appearancemodeling in computer graphics. By closely simulating the natural world around us we can develop algorithms that are useful in areas not traditionally connected with computer graphics. An example could be the ability to predict the color of human skin in the presence of certain diseases. In this talk, I will describe some of our recentwork in simulating the appearance of materials such as human skin, milk, and ice. This includes new research for predicting the appearance of materials based on their molecular structure in order to answer the question: “what will it look like if I mix these molecules together”?
