Conceptual project and present status of the ETE control and data acquisition systems

The control and data acquisition systems of the recently built Experimento Tokamak Esferico (ETE) (Spherical Tokamak Experiment) were conceived in a distributed, integrated and user-friendly approach (Fus. Eng. Design. 36 (1997) 167). The computerized control of the tokamak operation is based on CAMAC standard electronics to interface the tokamak subsystems and the control software, written in C language, to run under Windows NT. A requirement put on the system was to provide complete electrical isolation between the control and the machine rooms. Therefore, a shot is remotely started from the control room in which terminals are connected to the control computer through a fiber optics LAN and employing web-style or Windows network software, providing a total-isolation solution, Human and equipment safety is guaranteed by a safety pneumatic system., basically composed of a set of interlocks, made with pneumatic and electro-pneumatic elements. Data acquisition of plasma diagnostics is being implemented with co-operation of the ISTTOK group and it will be based on VME bus and OS-9 operating system. In our system, control and data signals will have separate buses and the acquisition of experimental data will begin with a trigger pulse coming from a CAMAC timing module. The Interactive Data Language commercial software will be used to run programs that will display the stored experimental data. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Improving a Laser Machine for Laser Forming of Metals

Laser forming is a flexible metal forming process without a die. At present, for this innovative process no exclusive equipment is commercially available. In this paper, some improving measures including temperature monitoring system, shape monitoring system, cooling system and rotary segment have been proposed on the basis of the general NC laser machine in order to meet the special requirements for laser forming of metals. The improved laser machine may be conveniently used to control dynamically and record the whole laser forming process of metals.

Spilled - dyevat works in non - continuous mode. Its technological process is composed of putting in cloth, adding dyestuff, heating dye - liquor, cooling dye - liquor and rinsing, and each process stage has different temperature control curve. The purposes of the design are to realize time sharing control for multi - spilled - dyevats and to implement dyeing formula presetting and choosing. The time sharing control of multi - spilled - dyevats means that one PLC controls many spilled - dyevats in different time. The presetting and choosing of dyeing formulas means that many dyeing formulas are preset in PLC and that the monitor computer chooses different formula according to different technological process. The concentric issue of the dyeing formulas of multi - spilled - dyevat prevents the operation from mistaking in dyeing process and improves product quality. This paper introduces the hardware configuration of the multi - spilled - dyevat control system, the control software, the picture configuration and the running - result of the system.

At the movement of a man with the usual prothesis it is not possible to change the speed of walking too much. Concerning construction, the artificial limbs are solved in the following way: Their swing is adjusted to any induvidual. Our project concerns developing of the artificial limb which is capable to react on possible rate of movement changes, that will make the pace more fluent and natural. The work can be divided into two parts - mechanical and control (electronic) one. The mechanical part consists of pneumatic cylinder in which the flow valve is controlled. This enables two-sided regulation. The electronic part consists of pressure sensor and control unit created by one-chip processor which reacts on pressure change in dependence on time.

This paper introduces the computer control system of film coating production line. It consists of two subsystem, The one is driving control subsystem, the other is coating and drying control subsystem. The driving control subsystem includes 15 driving points. A line speed master driving motor and a tension master driving motor are arranged, they give the speed synchronous signal and the tension synchronous signal to other driving points. The master driving motors are controlled by a digital analog mixed control system. The coating and drying control subsystem uses MICRO MAX distributed control system. This subsystem controls 12 control loops of coating flow, 17 control loops oi temperature and 6 control loops of moisture. The computer control system of film coating production line has run about two years. It greatly increases the control and management levels of film production and increases quantity and quality of film.

This article focuses on the development of a computer control system for a flexible manufacturing cell. The paper outlines the various modules that are required for a computer control system and elaborates on the development of some of these modules. This is part of an ongoing research project at the University of the Witwatersrand. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the viability of flexible manufacturing systems to South African industry. Thus the main constraints of the project were cost, ease of implementation, and ease of maintainability. This necessitated the use of existing machinery and of computer systems and software that were readily available and already familiar to industry. © 1993 Kluwer Academic Publishers.

This work contains a short description of methods of fault detection and isolation used in the ''OSA'' system installed in a sugar factory. It discusses the method of description of the object of diagnosis. It presents the implemented methods of fault detection, the rules of the sequential conclusion process used to achieve diagnosis in a single fault isolation case as well as a simple method for the multifault case. The theoretical basis is illustrated by examples based on the diagnosis of an evaporation unit in a sugar factory.

A computer control system in Steelmaking with Different control Strategies and Expert Knowledge

The paper presents a computer optimizing and supervisory control system with a knowledge base for the steelmaking process of an electric are furnace(EAF). The design of the control strategies, hardware and software are included. Three mathematical models are established for the different stages of the stoelmaking and three strategies are employed respectively. An expert control strategy is also used for practical use in the steelmaking shop. The system provides a user-friendly interface for operator. It is tested in practice and the results are very satisfied.

A Microprocessor-Based Model Reference Adaptive control system for Hydroelectric Generating Set

This paper describes an adaptive speed governor of hydroelectric generating set, which can adjust its parameters automatically with the variation of operating conditions. An 8086 16-bit microprocessor supports the governor with the aid of special software. A new configuration of direct model reference adaptive control (MRAC) system is developed which can be used in non-minimum phase systems. The hydroelectric generating sets have wider stable ranges and higher frequency-following accuracy using the adaptive governors than those using conventional PID regulators.
