The sample mean in statistics is a concept of great importance, with its properties being extensively utilized in other areas, such as computer science. This research centers on the concept of the sample mean and its characteristics in a cohort of computer engineering students undertaking a required course in statistics at a university in the Netherlands. The objective of this study was to analyze students' comprehension of the fundamental structure, properties, and applications of the sample mean. A digital mini-course on sample mean was developed and employed with 97 students, who had the option to apply the concepts at their own pace. The action-process-object-schema (APOS) theoretical framework was utilized to analyze the interview responses of seven participants. The majority of participants were able to demonstrate an understanding of the Process conception of the sample mean, with only a minority demonstrating an understanding of the Object conception. The lack of comprehension of the sample mean hindered students' capacity to effectively utilize the associated applications and properties. These findings imply that educators should strive to ensure that students have a sound comprehension of the sample mean so that they are better equipped to work with related applications. Suggestions of this study and further research ideas are indicated.

My research in optimization at the Department of Systems and computerengineering at Carleton University has brought me into contact with researchers in the Department ofElectronics, our sister department in the general field of Electrical and computer engineering(ECE), which has a major research thrust in computer-aided design (CAD) of very large scaleintegrated (VLSI) circuits. I have come to realize that the design of VLSI systems consists in largepart of solving incredibly massive mixed-integer nonlinear optimization problems, together withenormous circuit simulations. This is impossible without the use of CAD techniques. Over time,ECE-CAD researchers have both borrowed useful standard techniques from operations research (OR) andhave invented their own, often to deal with the sheer scale and complexity of the design problemsthey face. Interaction between the OR and ECE-CAD communities would seem to be a naturaldevelopment.

Four-dimensional (4D) printing has received an amplified consideration in the research community for fabrication and manufacturing in industry, medical field, and smart flood management. Disruptive technologies such as Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and 4D printing are highly recommended during disaster management activities. The 4D printing technology is an evolving field that is an advancement of three-dimensional printing technologies in which the materials are programmed to change shape over time responding to external stimulus without human intervention, thereby adding a fourth dimension. The technology had a great impact during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and flood management activities. This paper, with the aim of a scientometric review, recognizes the recent research hotspots, trends, and worldwide scope of 4D printing for the period of 2007-2021. The bibliographic data fetched from the Scopus in comma-separated values format is used in the study for extracting the masked information by discussing the in-depth visualization of the attributes of the index documents. The study examines the growth of publications, subject categorizations, global distributions, citation analysis, and the influence of the institutions and authors using the bibliographic data. VOSviewer, a java-based tool, is used to study the keyword co-occurrence, which yields hotspots and emerging trends in the various applications of 4D printing, including smart flood management. This study provides the implementation, latest trends, and universal research topography over the past decade, which assists to recognize primitive research and also provides supervision for the upcoming research.

Contribution: This work evaluates the role of the complementary training programs (CTPs) offered by the Center for Research and Development in Electronic and Information Technology (CETELI), from the Federal University of Amazonas, Brazil. This analysis highlights the relevant role of the CTP, carried out by CETELI, in supporting students in the engineering undergraduate course, thus reducing dropouts and improving retention of low-income students. Background: The great challenge of engineering courses and of all courses in the technological area is to keep in step with the job market and, thus, provide better conditions for entering trainees. Intended Outcomes: Based on the experience of this work, other electrical engineering courses should be encouraged to adopt partnerships with industries, offering the possibility for students to carry out project activities on topics of interest to industries and, especially in developing countries like Brazil, to associate this activity with the provision of scholarships. Application Design: The evaluation assesses the impact of the various CTP partnership projects (PPs) on the graduation rate (GR), on students' academic performance, and on the average graduation time (GT). It also assesses how the CTP students entered the job market, measuring whether the CTP facilitated their entry. Findings: It was observed a difference in the GR between the students who participated in the CTP and students that did not participate in the CTP. For the computer engineering course, this rate was about five times higher. It was observed that more than half of the students who participated in the CTP entered the market and were hired almost immediately for work in their area of training.

Self-learning process is an important factor that enables learners to improve their own educational experiences when they are away of face-to-face interactions with the teacher. A well-designed self-learning activity process supports both learners and teachers to achieve educational objectives rapidly. Because of this, there has always been a remarkable trend on developing alternative self-learning approaches. In this context, this study is based on two essential objectives. Firstly, it aims to introduce an intelligent software system, which optimizes and improves computer engineering students' self-learning processes. Secondly, it aims to improve computer engineering students' self-learning during the courses. As general, the software system introduced here evaluates students' intelligence levels according to the Theory of Multiple Intelligences and supports their learning via accurately chosen materials provided over the software interface. The evaluation mechanism of the system is based on a hybrid Artificial Intelligence approach formed by an Artificial Neural Network, and an optimization algorithm called as Vortex Optimization Algorithm (VOA). The system is usable for especially technical courses taught at computer engineering departments of universities and makes it easier to teach abstract subjects. For having idea about success of the system, it has been tested with students and positive results on optimizing and improving self-learning have been obtained. Additionally, also a technical evaluation has been done previously, in order to see if the VOA is a good choice to be used in the system. The revelation of the preferences and choices of students is critical for understanding which areas of the discipline they aim. Especially for final-year undergraduate students, job prospects are an important concern. In this study, the graduation project choices of the final-year undergraduate students in the department of computer engineering were investigated in light of their impact on both the industry and academia. A total of 1,693 course grades of 94 final-year undergraduate students were retrieved from the Student Information System. These course grades were utilized as the features of the employed machine learning algorithms alongside the features that were deduced from them. In addition, the popularities of the graduation project topics on both GitHub and IEEE were investigated to reveal their impact on the industry and academia. To this end, we proposed an experimental study, using 14 machine learning techniques, that predicts the topics of the graduation projects that the final-year undergraduate students chose. According to the experimental results, the accuracy of the proposed model was calculated to be as high as 100 % when it was utilized with the Bayes Net, Kleene Star, or J48 algorithm. This experimental result confirms the efficiency of the proposed model. Finally, the insights gained from the data are discussed to shed light on the reasons for the choices of the graduation projects as well as their relationships with the courses.

Innovative approaches have enhanced and increased the importance and quality of engineering education. In this context, using new techniques and software provides flexible and effective results. In this paper, a web-based educational learning object repository (LOR) software tool, namely Suleyman Demirel Universitesi Nesne Ambari (Sdunesa), was developed for computer engineering education. This software uses a developmental research method;which is also a derivative of the design-based research method. The developed web-based educational Sdunesa tool is used to store and share learning objects (LO) and their metadata. Moreover, the developed software tool is metadata independent by the help of metadata conversion engine and Extensible Markup Language (XML) web services. To achieve these features, the Sdunesa tool was developed with web 2.0 technologies. Sdunesa is dedicated to the computer engineering field. Qualitative and quantitative research analyses of the software are applied to the students and instructors for evaluation purposes and to demonstrate that the developed software is beneficial for computer engineering education.

The details of programs in electronics engineering and in computer engineering at the undergraduate level are presented in this paper. Among the characteristics these two programs have are: 1) satisfaction of requirements imposed by the society, local industry, and academic institutions at a regional level, 2) research involves both faculty and undergraduate students, and 3) emphasis is given in the use of computers throughout the program. A case study in Industrial Electronics is presented as an example.
