This paper describes the development of a constitution that satisfies manifold needs for designing system of profile shifted involute internal gears and also a simple, effective optimization technique (influence index number method) that can be applied to particularly complex programming such as required for designing of gears. The previous paper presented the system and technique for profile shifted involute crossed helical gears. This paper deals with internal gears. Internal gears are specifically subject to a number of interferences, which produce increased complications to the effect of designing variables. Especially adequate consideration is, therefore, required. The system and technique developed were fully tested by extensive actual design computation and trial manufacture on an example of gears designed by the present method. The test confirmed that this designing system and simple technique were also very effective for the designing of internal gears.

A BASIC computer program for calculating ED50 and LD50 values and their confidence limits by probit analysis and weighted linear regression is presented. It also includes the Chi square procedure for testing the mathematical model and allows on-screen high resolution graphic display. A new real-time signal processing sonar system (ECOLOG II) has been developed. Even though the system is compact it is capable of performing in real time all basic functions required for acoustic fisheries stock assessment, including simultaneous echo integration and target strength estimation. The system incorporates a precision echo sounder and a powerful internal processor connected to a host personal computer workstation. The system is flexible so that the same hardware may be used for various operating modes. All user control and operation of the sounder/processor is done with the host workstation. The workstation also provides post processing, data storage and various graphics presentation of output data.

An important indicator of the quality of hydrochemical simulation models is their ability to be used in a wide range of catchment types. The Birkenes Model, built primarily upon data from a small basis in southern Norway, was used to simulate a highland Scottish catchment with physical and chemical characteristics very different from those at Birkenes. The hydrological and chemical signals were simulated and compared to observations and results from earlier Birkenes simulations. The results indicate that the basic chemical processes are qualitatively represented in the current model and that it is possible to simulate hydrochemical observations for varying catchment types. The broad trends in stream concentrations for all the major anions and cations are reproduced. Although short-term variations are not simulated equally well, the results strengthen confidence in the predictions of the Birkenes Model even though the model is a highly simplified description of a complicated system. The modeling procedure is described offering other researchers a method for adapting an acid precipitation model to their own catchment.
