The characteristics of a landscape and drainage size defines the abiotic character of the stream. We advance on an existing clustering method by making it faster, more stable, capable of processing large areas, and adding several new user defined options. The software clusters interconfluence stream reaches into larger homogenous stream segments using a series of rules about network adjacency, upstream catchment area, and similarity of landscape characteristics. Landscape variables and clustering parameters are discussed to provide guidance for helping users achieve their clustering objectives. We provide an example of clustering stream reaches in Ontario, Canada that was used to develop a provincial aquatic classification.

In consideration of destructive characteristics of concrete short column reinforced with a carbon fiber cloth, constitutive relationships between concrete materials under repetitive loads are established. In view of the nonlinear and cohesive action between steel and concrete and relative sliding influence between carbon fiber cloth, an analysis program created with APDL parameter-program design language is used. The yield load, ultimate load, destructive load and related apex shift of the carbon fiber cloth reinforced concrete short column are analyzed, of which calculation is basically consistent with testing results.

The computer code for cost optimization of the EL-TO Zagreb cogeneration plant operation is described. The cogeneration plant supplies heat for the western part of the city, medium-pressure steam for industrial purposes and electric energy. Demand varies considerably during each day depending on the season. The plant is comprised of many components making the covering of the demand possible: two gas turbine facilities with heat recovery. boilers, three high-pressure boilers and two back pressure turbines with one controlled extraction port each, peak-load boiler for medium-pressure steam, peak-load boilers for district heating system, wter and air heaters, deaerators, pumps and water-cooled pressure reduction stations. The computer code is aimed to help operators in defining the daily operating regime based on presumed energy demand schedule. The code algorithms and graphical interface arc suited to this purpose. The code is based on the mathematical model of the plant that encompasses energy conversions in the components as well as the overall mass and-energy balances based on pre-selected interconnections between the components. The optimisation algorithm yields load distribution across components of the plant in order to satisfy the heat energy and industrial steam demands at the minimum cost. Preliminary investigation of the code based on operational data shows potentiality of cost saving in the range from 1,2% to 13% depending on the load, with an average savings value of 4,2%.

Background and Objectives: Heart rate variability (HRV) has increasingly been linked to medical phenomena and several HRV metrics have been found to be good indicators of patient health. This has enabled generalised treatment plans to be developed in order to respond to subtle personal differences that are reflected in HRV metrics. There are several established HRV analysis platforms and methods available within the literature;some of which provide command line operation across databases but do not offer extensive graphical user interface (GUI) and editing functionality, while others offer extensive ECG editing but are not feasible over large datasets without considerable manual effort. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive open-source package, in a well known and multi-platform language, that offers considerable graphical signal editing features, flexibility within the algorithms used for R-peak detection and HRV quantification, and includes graphical functionality for batch processing. Thereby, providing a platform suited to either physician or researcher. Methods: RR-APET's software was developed in the Python language and is modular in format, providing a range of different modules for established R-peak detection algorithms, as well as an embedded template for alternate algorithms. These modules also include several easily adjustable features, allowing the user to optimise any of the algorithms for different ECG signals or databases. Additionally, the software's user-friendly GUI platform can be operated by both researchers or medical professionals to accomplish different tasks, such as: the in-depth visual analysis of a single ECG, or the analysis multiple signals in a single iteration using batch processing. To assist the design engineer to more flexible and controllable, near optimum cost, heat exchanger networks, a computer program, called CAD-HEN (computer Aided Design of Heat Exchanger Networks), based on thermodynamic principles, was developed. Dynamic simulation and response analysis of the heat exchanger network can be done by the SpeedUp dynamic process simulator by using a specific model. CAD-HEN handles supertargeting, synthesis, and optimization of a heat exchanger network. The targeting and optimization procedures are graphical and interactive. The user views various plots, such as Total Cost Target profile and Grand Composite Curves. An automatic synthesis algorithm, based on the vertical heat transfer model is used to generate in the stream grid environment a near minimum surface network which is optimized with a simplified loop breaking algorithm. A specific model for SpeedUp was developed in order to proceed at dynamic simulation and detailed control study of an existing heat exchanger network.

Background Continuous enzyme kinetic assays are often used in high-throughput applications, as they allow rapid acquisition of large amounts of kinetic data and increased confidence compared to discontinuous assays. However, data analysis is often rate-limiting in high-throughput enzyme assays, as manual inspection and selection of a linear range from individual kinetic traces is cumbersome and prone to user error and bias. Currently available software programs are specialized and designed for the analysis of complex enzymatic models. Despite the widespread use of initial rate determination for processing kinetic data sets, no simple and automated program existed for rapid analysis of initial rates from continuous enzyme kinetic traces. Results An Interactive Continuous Enzyme Kinetics Analysis Tool (ICEKAT) was developed for semi-automated calculation of initial rates from continuous enzyme kinetic traces with particular application to the evaluation of Michaelis-Menten and EC50/IC50 kinetic parameters, as well as the results of high-throughput screening assays. ICEKAT allows users to interactively fit kinetic traces using convenient browser-based selection tools, ameliorating tedious steps involved in defining ranges to fit in general purpose programs like Microsoft Excel and Graphpad Prism, while still maintaining simplicity in determining initial rates. As a test case, we quickly analyzed over 500 continuous enzyme kinetic traces resulting from experimental data on the response of the protein lysine deacetylase SIRT1 to small-molecule activators. Conclusions ICEKAT allows simultaneous visualization of individual initial rate fits and the resulting Michaelis-Menten or EC50/IC50 kinetic model fits, as well as hits from high-throughput screening assays. This paper describes the development of a constitution that satisfies manifold needs for designing system of profile shifted involute internal gears and also a simple, effective optimization technique (influence index number method) that can be applied to particularly complex programming such as required for designing of gears. The previous paper presented the system and technique for profile shifted involute crossed helical gears. This paper deals with internal gears. Internal gears are specifically subject to a number of interferences, which produce increased complications to the effect of designing variables. Especially adequate consideration is, therefore, required. The system and technique developed were fully tested by extensive actual design computation and trial manufacture on an example of gears designed by the present method. The test confirmed that this designing system and simple technique were also very effective for the designing of internal gears.

THERMOFLEX is a computer graphics program developed by Thermoflow as an addition to GT PRO, a software package for the design of the steam cycle of a combined cycle or a gas turbine based industrial CHP scheme. An initial design in GT PRO can be further analysed and optimized using GT MASTER, GT MACRO and PEACE. The interactions between the programs were examined when applied to the addition of a new gas turbine and heat recovery boiler to an existing CHP site.;Thermoflow has introduced THERMOFLEX, their own graphics program, as an addition to their extensive suite of design programs. Linking THERMOFLEX to GT PRO and GT MASTER has produced a powerful tool for building up complex systems using elements designed with these programs.
