computer technology is currently experiencing important developments by generating new tools and methods with increasing capacities. This suggests that a growing share of economic tasks could be performed by this new capital at the expense of labor. This paper evaluates the risk of job destructions induced by computer technology in Japan. We aim at assessing the vulnerability of employment from a technical point of view by considering jobs' differential dotation in non-programmable skills. Relying on machine learning technique, we find evidence that approximatively 55% of jobs are susceptible to be carried by computer capital in the next years. We also show that there is no significant difference on the basis of gender. On the contrary, non-regular jobs (those that concern temporary and part-time workers) are more vulnerable to computer technology diffusion than the others. These findings, based on technical background, shed light on the scale of the potential capital/labor substitution but this dynamics will also depends on economic and social factors. computer technology-based interventions (CBIs) represent a promising area for HIV prevention behavioral intervention research. Such programs are a compelling prevention option given their potential for broad reach, customized content, and low cost delivery. The purpose of the current article is to provide a review of the state of the literature on CBIs. First, we define CBIs in HIV prevention and highlight the many advantages of such interventions. Next, we provide an overview of what is currently known regarding the efficacy of CBIs in HIV prevention, focusing on two recent meta-analyses of this literature. Finally, we propose an agenda for future directions for research in the area of CBIs, using the RE-AIM model as an organizing guide. We conclude that with the continued growth of computer technologies, opportunities to apply such technologies in HIV prevention will continue to blossom. Further research is greatly needed to advance an understanding of not only how and under what circumstances CBIs can be efficacious, but also how the reach, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of such programs in clinical and community settings can be achieved.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the current situation in Cyprus elementary classrooms regarding computer technology integration. The study examined how Cypriot elementary teachers use computers, and the factors that influence computer integration in their classroom practices. To address the research questions that guided the study, an evaluative case study design was applied. It employed a mixed method approach through the usage of structured questionnaires and semi-structured, open-ended interviews as the major methods of data collection. The value of the proposed study lies in its potential to help policymakers, educators, and stakeholders that have the power to take decisions and design policies, in gaining understanding on how computers are used in the classroom, and the factors that influence their use. The results of the quantitative analysis indicated that while Cypriot teachers use computers rather extensively for their own purposes, they use them less frequently in their classes. Regression analysis revealed that teachers’ education, school climate, teachers’ professional behavior, and teachers’ attitudes towards the use of computers in education, were significant predictors for classroom computer use. The results of the qualitative analysis summarize the factors that influence teachers in applying computers in their classroom practices. A general uniformity across the three categories of teachers revealed, in terms of the factors that function as barriers in applying computers in the classrooms. The factors can be summarized as follows: lack of resources; tyranny of the curriculum; incomplete and inadequate professional development training; lack of guidance, support, and incentives from the officials, and other factors, including technical problems, students’ computer literacy level, etc. Along the same lines, a general uniformity across the three categories of teachers revealed in terms of the factors that facilitated them in applying computers.
computer technology and its impact on older adults has been a topic of interest during the past few years, as the US swiftly moves deeper into cyberspace. There is a perception that persons aged 50 years and older hav...

The Mexican civil engineering firm ICA installed its first computer, an IBM 1130, in 1966. By documenting the development of ICA's computing efforts over almost 15 years, the authors trace the influence of personnel and company practices, examine the development of technical and administrative applications, and explore the computer center's story within the broader history of ICA.

The quantitative decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in the presence ofcatalyst 2H_2O_2(aq)-> 2H_2O(1) +O_2(g) (1) has been used in many general chemistry experiments(1-4) to: (i) generate oxygen gas to study its properties, (ii) study the gas laws, (iii) determinethe proportionality constant, R, in the ideal gas equation, (iv) examine the stoichiometry of thedecomposition, (v) investigate the role of an enzyme and temperature in this process, and (vi) findthe rate and order of the decomposition. The typical procedure involves measuring the volume ofoxygen produced in the reaction (eq 1) under constant pressure, usually by water displacement, following with the calculations of a wanted unknown.

This study examined the changes in two aspects of students' attitude toward computers;(1) perceptions regarding the positive impacts of computers, and (2) perceptions regarding the negative impacts of computers. Subjects from an Introduction to Business Information Systems course were used for the study. The t-test and ANOVA statistical measures were used to examine attitudes and their changes over a 22 year time span. The first 13 years, 1988 to 2001, found an increasingly pessimistic attitude. This recent (2009) study showed mixed results. Current respondents were more optimistic about the positive impacts of computers while at the same time being more pessimistic about the negative impacts of computers. In general, female respondents were more pessimistic about the impact of computers than their male counterparts.
