A computer aided testing System for an Aero Turbo-shaft Engine

Engine running plays very important roles in a turbo-shaft engine production and maintenance. Traditional computer aided testing is just work as a data acquisition system to measure parameters and control some devices. In this paper, a CAT system is realized based on VXI and virtual instrument technology, which also communicate with the PLC, the ECU and the dynamometer, to provide a centralized information system for a turbo-shaft engine running. Multi-functions are realized to assistant users before, during and after experiments.

Aero engine running is complex mechanical experiments. In the last two decades, many computer aided testing (CAT) systems were developed and employed in aero engine running. Traditionally, the main role of a CAT system is data acquisition, which developed with the client/server (C/S) architecture. Now, a CAT system plays more and more important roles in information management, such as measurement channels management, experiment design and management, data analysis and report management, and so on. Users may work on local place or on remote. So, it is not only a data acquisition system, but also an information system. In this paper, we introduce hybrid architecture of C/S and browser/server (B/S) to take advantages of both of them. For local users, clients are realized to provide local monitor and operation. For remote users, browsers provide not only real-time measurement data, but also querying and management of the history data. It demonstrates that the CAT system meets the requirement of aero engine running.

Measuring community reintegration following burn injury is important to assess the efficacy of therapies designed to optimize recovery. This project aims to develop and validate a conceptual framework for understanding the social impact of burn injuries in adults. The framework is critical for developing the item banks used for a computerized adaptive test. We performed a comprehensive literature review and consulted with clinical experts and burn survivors about social life areas impacted by burn injury. Focus groups with burn survivors and clinicians were conducted to inform and validate the framework. Transcripts were coded using grounded theory methodology. The World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, was chosen to ground the content model. The primary construct identified was social participation, which contains two concepts: societal role and personal relationships. The subdomains chosen for item development were work, recreation and leisure, relating with strangers, and romantic, sexual, family, and informal relationships. Qualitative results strongly suggest that the conceptual model fits the constructs for societal role and personal relationships with the respective subdomains. This conceptual framework has guided the implementation of a large-scale calibration study currently underway which will lead to a computerized adaptive test for monitoring the social impacts of burn injuries during recovery.

This article describes a computerized adaptive test (CAT) based on the uniform item exposure multi-form structure (uMFS). The uMFS is a specialization of the multi-form structure (MFS) idea described by Armstrong, Jones, Berliner, and Pashley (1998). In anMFS CAT, the examinee first responds to a small fixed block of items. The items comprising that block may be unrelated to each other, or they may comprise a testlet (Wainer and Kiely, 1987). After the first block of items has been administered, adaptation takes place in the choice of the next block to be administered and subsequent blocks. The uMFS design integrates item exposure control, as well as content balancing and other test development needs, into the design of the CAT, instead of placing those activities in the online implementation. We show that it is possible to implement item exposure control, in a very thorough way, in the psychometric specifications of the item blocks.

Translating Shoulder computerized Adaptive testing Generated Outcome Measures into Clinical Practice

Study Design: Prospective longitudinal cohort study. Introduction: Increased use of computerized adaptive tests (CATs) to generate outcome measures during rehabilitation has stimulated questions concerning score interpretation. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of the study was to describe meaningful interpretations of scores from patient self-report shoulder functional status (FS) outcome measures estimated using a shoulder CAT (score range = 0-100). Methods: We applied four approaches to the clinical interpretation of outcomes data from 30,987 patients with shoulder impairments receiving outpatient rehabilitation in 518 clinics in 30 states (United States) between August 2007 and July 2009. First, we used standard error of estimates to construct 95% confidence intervals for each CAT estimated score. Second, we estimated the percentile rank (PR) of FS scores. Third, we used two threshold approaches to define individual patient-level change: statistically reliable change (i.e., minimal detectable change or MDC) and clinically important change. Fourth, we developed and applied a functional staging model, the Shoulder Function Classification System (SFCS). Results: Precision of a single score was estimated by FS score +/- 4. Based on score distribution, 25th, 50th, and 75th PRs corresponded to intake FS scores of 43, 52, and 59 and discharge FS scores of 59, 68, and 80, respectively. MDC calculations indicated that changes in FS scores of 11 or more units represented statistically reliable change. FS score increments of eight or more units were estimated to represent minimal clinically important improvement based on receiver operating characteristic. The five-level SFCS was judged to be clinically logical and provide insight for clinical interpretation of patient progress. Conclusions: Results may improve clinical interpretation of CAT-generated outcome measures and assist clinicians using patient-reported outcomes during clinical practice. Level of Evidence: Therapy

computerized adaptive language testing (CALT), supported by item response theory (IRT) and Internet technologies, has become an important aspect in modern testing. This paper first reviews the basic theories in testing and then presents the process of a CALT. Later, key issues of a CALT, such as construction of item banks, item selection and terminations of a test, have been addressed in detail. Besides, the advantages and disadvantages of a CALT are discussed in accordance with the current CALT practice around the world. By doing so, the paper points out that CALT is the new trend in language testing and will be applied massively in the future in China.

Monitoring and measuring devices connected with the production flow, are subject to a relatively high wear through constant use, at the same time an universal function capability for the entire production flow is absolutely necessary. This results the necessity of the regular examination and documentation of the monitoring and measuring devices in the modern production. Therefore the confirmation of the monitoring and measuring systems is an essential quality requirement for the entire production especially at the increasing demands of micro and nanotechnology (EN ISO 9000; EN ISO 9001, 2000). The efficiency of the confirmation can be increased and expenses can be reduced essentially through computer assistance with flexible testing intervals. For this purpose developed confirmation system, with which an increase of the flexibility level and efficiency of a confirmation system for the monitoring and measuring devices in the intelligence manufacturing environment can be achieved.

A novel device for testing internal threads' parameters is presented in this paper based on light sectioning approach, in which a line-shape light is projected on the internal surface of the tested thread, the distorted line is recorded and digitalized by a CCD camera, and a computer is used for further processing. A prototype system is built. The experiment results show that the accuracies of 10 mu m for pitch measurement, 15" for tooth angle measurement and 15 mu m for pitch diameter measurement have been achieved.

AIDDS: A System for Developing and testing Incident Detection Algorithms

Incident management is a major problem in traffic control. Traffic incidents are the cause for more than half of all traffic delays. The research undertaken by the University of Minnesota has reached a point where good knowledge on different incident detection techniques has been achieved. The computer program presented in this paper is designed to assist researchers in testing incident detection algorithms. The primary gains by using this program are the reduction of time needed for algorithm testing and the flexibility on designing the test site. With this program the user can assign individual threshold sets in every section, and use multiple algorithms simultaneously. The algorithms included in the version presented in this paper are DELOS(3,3), CALIFORNIA, Alg. #7, and Alg. #8. Some of the features that make this program unique are its ability to combine measurements on the field to create “pseudo” detectors, its capability to automatically judge if a detection is valid, and its ability to combine incident detection algorithms to improve detection performance.
