The new research trend in the residential solar generation systems, is to employ the parallel connected PV configuration rather than the series-connected configuration to satisfy the safety requirements and to make full use of the PV generated power. A novel interleaved Luo converter is proposed for the high voltage gain DC-DC conversion which integrates the merits of interleaved topologies and switched capacitor based topologies. The Super Lift (SL) Luo converter is becoming very popular in the DC-DC conversion processes due to high voltage gain, and simple circuitry. By using the interleaving technique, the input current ripple and output voltage ripple of the elementary SL Luo converter is reduced. Hence the proposed topology is suitable for the DC-DC conversion at the output of parallel/series-parallel connected PV modules, since the low ripple current at the output of PV module will improve the life span of the same. Incremental conductance based MPPT control algorithm, along with a PI controller is implemented in this paper. The disadvantage of the interleaved topology is the large component count. However, component ratings of the Interleaved SL Luo converter are reduced to half of that of a SL Luo converter. Hence the cost of the interleaved circuit can be justified.

Nowadays, PEM fuel cells are considered as one of the most promising electric energy production technology using hydrogen. For this reason, tracking the efficiency of the PEM fuel cell system is an important research topic. Most of the control algorithms developed to aim this goal are based on models of the PEMFC although to date there is no complete model which takes into account all the phenomenon related to the PEMFC. In this paper, we propose a control algorithm based on an experimental approach which searches for operation parameters (stack temperature, air relative humidity and air stoichiometric ratio) to optimize the efficiency of the PEMFC system. Indeed, an experimental study done beforehand showed that by acting on these parameters, the efficiency of the system which depends highly on the electric power generated by the stack, on the power lost in the auxiliaries and on the hydrogen flow rate, can be optimized. The developed algorithm is based on a local optimization method derived from the line search method. The validity of this method has been proven with different classic functions and the control algorithm has been implemented experimentally in the control interface of our PEMFC system. The experiments analysis showed promising results.

In this paper, PI control with input-output linearizaiton is presented for a three-phase neural point clamped boost rectifier. The control algorithm consists of a input-output linearization inner current loop in synchronous reference frame and a PI voltage control outer-loop. There are two reference signals for this cascade controller, which are the dc link voltage reference and the q-axis current reference. They are used to regulate the dc link voltage and achieve unity power factor. A model based design method for the inner-loop and outer-loop is presented. Simulation results show the dc link control performance and the current control performance. The control performance under a distorted voltage supply condition is also shown.

This paper presents a synchronous-frame repetitive controller for three-phase UPS inverters. The proposed control algorithm can eliminate odd-harmonic periodic distortions caused by the nonlinear and unbalanced load, and simultaneously achieve very fast transient response. Distinguished from the conventional repetitive control in the stationary frame, the proposed approach incorporates the repetitive controller into three deliberately selected synchronous frames. Resultantly, the repetitive control time delay is reduced to 1/6 of the fundamental period such that the error convergence rate and transient tracking accuracy are both significantly improved. To further enhance the steady-state performance, a high performance 4th-order linear-phase infinite-impulse-response (IIR) filter Q(z) is synthesized and incorporated into the repetitive controller. The proposed controller is implemented on the Texas Instruments fixed-point digital signal processor (TMS320LF2407) and eliminates all current sensors for cost effectiveness. Experiments have been carried out on an 18 kW three-phase UPS prototype. Low THD (<2percent) has been achieved under heavily distorted nonlinear load and unbalanced load. Fast error convergence (< one fundamental period) is demonstrated during step load transients.

Fire extinguishment approaches with inert gas such as carbon dioxide (CO_2) or nitrogen (N_2) have several advantages compared with ones with water. On the other hand, they have low extinguishment performance and put lives at risk. To enhance the extinguishment performance and to reduce risk to life, the authors have proposed a robotic fire extinguishment approach with massive aerial extinguishers with inert gas. This paper proposes a control algorithm for multiple aerial extinguishers without any markers, while a single extinguisher with an easily extracted marker has been controlled in our previous work. This paper also demonstrates flight control of two extinguishers and flame extinguishment by cooperation with two extinguishers. The cooperative behavior in the flame extinguishment experiment is not explicitly programmed, and the two extinguishers are simply controlled by trajectory tracking using PID controllers.

This paper presents a new adaptive high speed control algorithm (AHSC) for the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. This AHSC algorithm has been built by using the Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) and with reference to the fed inverter variables limitation. The proposal control technique is mathematically formulated and implemented in the two conventional motor control strategies such as the Field Oriented Control (FOC) in one hand and the Direct Torque Control (DTC) on the other hand. The proposed AHSC is tested through computer simulation using MATLAB/Simulink, where the system efficiency and robustness is verified for a wide speed range and under the two cited drive strategies. The obtained simulations results are satisfactory and confirmed the usefulness of the overall proposed control algorithm.

In this paper, a distributed power control algorithm is proposed to perform adaptive spatial multiplexing for the relay enhanced orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) cellular systems. As the optimal spatial multiplexing problem is non-convex, we utilize the distributed iteration method to achieve its near-optimal solution. By determining the restriction on the transmit power for each subcarrier, the individual power allocation at the base station (BS) and the relay station (RS) can always converge to some desirable Nash Equilibriums with satisfying performance. Simulation results show that the proposed distributed power control algorithm provides significant gain in system transmit rate over the traditional iterative water-filling scheme.

This paper proposes a predictive controller design for a sensorless interior permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system. The controllers include a current-loop predictive controller and a speed-loop predictive controller with an external load estimator. In addition, the estimated error of the rotor position estimator is reduced due to the using of the on-line tuning stator resistance and q-axis inductance. By using the proposed control algorithms, the closed-loop sensorless interior permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system can achieve fast transient responses, satisfactory load disturbance responses, and good tracking responses. A digital signal processor, TMS 320F2812, is used to perform the rotor position estimating algorithm and the predictive control algorithm. As a result, the hardware is very simple. Experimental results can validate the theoretical analysis and show that the predictive controllers have better performance than the PI controllers.

Open loop reactive power (Q) control function of the local voltage (U) measured at the inverter's terminals is one possibility to comply with the BDEW's MV grid regulations [1] in Germany, while other countries are considering to apply this solution as well. A better understanding of the stability limits for such a control algorithm is required when applying it to large PV plants or PV dominated grids. A dynamic RMS simulation model of a big PV plant including Q(U) control is developed. The model is compared with real life measurements in the PV plant and the local laboratory. Various study cases are further on performed in order to assess the voltage stability. An upper stability limit can be found depending on the grid connection parameters in the point of common coupling (PCC).

This paper is aimed to design a learning-based controller for robotic manipulators. A controller is proposed to estimate the nonlinear system dynamics and minimize tracking error in motion. In order to improve the learning speed and performance, a new CMAC (cerebellar model articulation controller) controller with grey learning rate is proposed. The grey learning rate, which is based on a grey relational analysis, is utilized to adjust the learning rate online. Real-time tracking control can be achieved with the proposed controller. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed controller, ADMAS and MATLAB/Simulink are used for simulation. The NI sbRIO-9642 is employed to realize the control algorithm on the NTU robot arm, which is developed by our laboratory. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed learning-based controller can provide better tracking performance than the conventional ones.
