A 3-b digital source driver driven by a single +5-V power source has been developed for large TFT-LCD (thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display) panels already under mass production. The maximum sampling speed of this driver is up to 20 MHz, more than three times as fast as the traditional analog sampling driver. The new driver's LSI chip is a square about 30 mm/sup 2/, smaller than half the square made under the hybrid process. A new technology was developed to drive this driver, i.e., alternating the grey level voltage and also alternating the Vcom inversely with the polarity. With this new driver and its driving mechanism, a 10.4-in CA (computer application) TFT-LCD system has been mass-produced that can generate 512 colors simultaneously for every panel pixel.< >

The paper addresses safety issues involved in making ad hoc interconnections among medical devices in order to assemble more complex medical systems. The main problem is that the systemic view may be easily concealed by nowadays behavioral modeling tools. Missing such a systemic view does not allow to have a precise view of what is being modeled: we propose instead to adopt novel methodological guidelines in developing assembled medical systems, basically by showing how a a clear and unambiguous semantics may be given for any state of the system being modeled, from specification to test phases. Such a state semantics may then be checked against safety axioms by simply visiting the state diagram without the need of resorting to model checking techniques.

For the secure transaction of data between the central processing unit (CPU) of a satellite on board-computer and its local random access memory (RAM), the program memory has been usually designed with triple modular redundancy (TMR), which is a hardware implementation that includes replicated memory circuits and voting logic to detect and correct a faulty value. TMR error correction technique allows single correction of one error bit per stored word. For computers on board a satellite, there is however a definite risk of two error bits occurring within one byte of stored data. Recently we developed an image processing toolbox for cellular phones for educational and research purposes. The embedding of new applications brought up several implementation challenges which were common. In this paper we review the problems of code development for cell phone platforms. The similarities among three independent studies, conducted by the authors, of informal learning in computer-supported collaboration in three different contexts are presented: (1) university undergraduates playing multiplayer videogames; (2) elementary school children playing "edutainment games" on a classroom computer during free choice time; and (3) adult computer users offering informal help-giving in a variety of workplace scenarios. These studies indicate that users often interacted in unexpected ways. Additionally, collaboration was both enabled and constrained by the participants' task and social goals. Issues such as the blurred distinction between play, work, and learning and design implications are discussed.

We present experimental evidence that multiple compute-units, compiled from sequential high-level language input programs, can be merged into a reduced number of configurations for a reconfigurable fabric (such as a modem FPGA), thus significantly reducing the reconfiguration overhead. Digitization and computers is impacting different research areas. The numerical results are very difficult to analyse and compare with the traditional manual approach. Whereas, mathematics is the main backbone of computers which can do huge calculations in few seconds. On the other hand to read the results of different objects related to various material science areas were also a tedious job. But, with the help of computer applications/software equipped machines this task became too easy and could provide better results with least time. In this study, different computer applications which are useful to study the mechanical properties of High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) steels are discussed.
