The article discusses a study titled 'Non-Functional Requirements in software Architecture Practice,' conducted to investigate how software architects deal with nonfunctional requirements (NFRs) in their daily practices. The results indicate that nonfunctional quality is mainly a concern for the architects. It also presents a graph showing relevance of nonfunctional requirement types from surveyed architects' perspective.

Nuclear desalination of seawater remains a very viable option to solving the perennial fresh water shortage problem along the coast of Ghana especially as Ghana prepares to install the first nuclear power plant. There is, therefore, the need for research to be conducted into nuclear seawater desalination technology as part of the nuclear power program of Ghana so as to develop the needed human resources in Ghana. In this research, cycle analysis of the cogeneration nuclear power plant was conducted to determine its efficiency and desalination steam requirements. An analytical model of the thermo vapour compression (TVC) desalination process was also developed to investigate the effect of design and operating parameters on parameters controlling the cost of producing fresh water from TVC process. Steady state mass and energy balances as well as empirical correlations derived from experiments were used to model the TVC, which was coupled to a cogeneration nuclear power plant to supply the needed steam for the desalination. The model was developed on a computer code, using FORTRAN language. The results showed that the thermal performance of the TVC desalination process improves with the efficiency of the cogeneration nuclear power plant but decreases with increasing steam consumption rates. The article discusses requirements in softwaredevelopment process and marketing with reference to the characters Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock of television program 'Star Trek.' In marketing, potential customers are characterized as Spocks or Kirks where Kirk is emotional, and Spock is controlled by logic. Topics include role of emotion in software design processes and activation of different types of intelligence such as emotional, integral, and experiential intelligence.

This study aimed to ascertain the influence of turbidity and migration rate on the count accuracy and size determination of an automatic infrared fish counter. The effect of turbidity on enumerating silver perch (Bidyanus bidyanus) migration rates was insignificant when compared to the inability of the infrared counter to deal with large numbers of migrating fish. The infrared counter underestimated counts by 5684% at moderate migration rates (12 fish h-1) and by 6282% at the highest migration rate (120 fish h-1). When multiple fish were simultaneously passed through the counter, the software detected them as a single fish and overestimated fish length. Fish passed through the unit ranged from 340 to 520 mm but the infrared counter estimated the range to be 140780 mm, with the lengths of a high proportion of individuals being underestimated. Most issues of inaccuracy appeared to be software-related and could be overcome with further softwaredevelopment. Further assessment of the applicability of the unit to enumerate fish migration, at high migration rates, should then be considered.

Recently, the editors of Long Range Planning called for more phenomenon-based research. Such research focuses on identifying and reporting on new or recent phenomena of interest and relevance to management and organisation science. In this article, we explore the nature of phenomenon-based research and develop a research strategy that provides guidelines for researchers seeking to make this type of scientific inquiry rigorous and relevant. Phenomenon-based research establishes and describes the empirical facts and constructs that enable scientific inquiry to proceed. An account of the study of open source softwaredevelopment illustrates the research strategy. Rigorous phenomenon-based research tackles problems that are relevant to management practice and fall outside the scope of available theories. Phenomenon-based research also bridges epistemological and disciplinary divides because it unites diverse scholars around their shared interest in the phenomenon and their joint engagement in the research activities: identification, exploration, design, theorising and synthesis.
