Fast nearest neighbour searching algorithm using L₁ norm

Simple but effective fast codebook searching algorithms for vector quantisation are presented. The Euclidean distance (L-2 norm) calculation requires a number of multiplications. The proposed algorithms use the L-1 norm between the input vector and codeword to discard many unlikely codewords. Since the proposed algorithms significantly reduce the number of multiplications, a considerable reduction in encoding time is achieved. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Low power embedded extension algorithm for lifting-based discrete wavelet transform in JPEG2000

A novel algorithmic technique for reducing power and area consumption of the discrete bracelet transform, (DWT) on CMOS-based DSP architectures is presented. The technique reduces power by combining the data-extension procedure into the lifting based DWT core. It is demonstrated that the nc v algorithm can be used to obtain more than 50% reduction in the amount of memory required, leading to significant reduction in area and po vcr.

Few-shot action recognition using task-adaptive parameters

Few-shot action recognition aims to recognise unseen actions given a few examples. Thus, this letter proposes a model named meta relation network (Meta RN) to address such problem. This model contains two parts: a MetaNet and a relation network. Relation network is utilised to extract video features and classify actions. A second-order pooling followed by power normalization is used for feature enhancement, and target videos are finally classified by exploring nonlinear distance relations. The MetaNet module is designed to model different task distributions and generate task-adaptive parameters for the embedding layer of the relation network in different tasks. Experimental results on two public action recognition datasets demonstrate that the network achieves higher accuracies than several state-of-the-art approaches.

Two-step motion estimation algorithm for large search range using outlier pixel exclusion

A new two-step motion estimation algorithm is proposed for large search range. It exploits minimum mean-absolute-error quantisation and outlier pixel exclusion to reduce performance degradation. With respect to the full search algorithm, the hardware cost is reduced to 1/144 with similar peak signal-to-noise ratio performance when the search range is +/- 128 x +/- 128.

Recognizing the formations of CVBG based on shape context using electronic reconnaissance data

To recognize the formation of the carrier battle group (CVBG) from passive electronic reconnaissance and location data, a shape context-based method is proposed. The proposed method treats the location data as a graph model, and a graph matching method is used for formation recognition. The shape context and background context for each unit in CVBG is calculated and used for multi-viewpoint shape feature, which is rotation invariance and distinctive. The experimental results show that the proposed method can recognize the formation with a higher accuracy and locate the ship with electromagnetic silence.

A new adaptive shrinkage de-noising algorithm for images based on the neighbourhood characteristics is presented. This algorithm determine, the shrinkage thresholds according to the neighbouring coefficients and the noise level. The experimental results show a great improvement with respect to the standard wavelet shrinkage algorithms.
